The Howell will pretty much be PnP. But iirc you can get a MS unit either cheaper or for the same price.
Also with the AFX ECU's you cannot run boost with them if you plan on going that route with your car so you will end up in the long run having to buy either a MS unit or a hahn portfuler unit...
How familliar are you with tuning? Megasquirt is your best bet because you can adjust everything but you will either have to do it your self or take it to a shop to tune it. The plus side with megasquirt is that there is a fairly large community for the 420a platform that can help you with your...
It was labor an resurfacing.... and a head gasket is like 70 bucks or something like that.Ill give you this piece of advice, when you go to a mechanic make sure you shop around before you drop your car off. They know they got you as soon as your non running car sits in their bay. But yea 1200...
Because no one has ever thought of doing this. You sir might be a pioneer for our platform. But in all seriousness, Type in "evo swap, 420a" on google and see how many people have actually done it with more proof than a picture.
^^X2If that price is just for labor shop around. I had a head gasket job with resurfacing quoted to me for $475.If it gets fixed properly the first time and you keep up with maintanence then it shouldnt be a reoccuring issue.
If you plan on turboing soon I would reccommend you just get some titanium ones, that way you will have piece of mind when you do get to the turbo part. Thats just me though.
^^^ I think this guy hasAnd because you were having a leak I doesnt mean it was the bolts themselves as the oem ones as well as aftermarkets were revised to fix the issue we once had. It could have been an improper tq or tq sequence.
http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-420a-specific/331386-answers-420a-headgasket-questions.htmlI used felpro gaskets after my rebuild, but I also use ARP headstuds ( which does not really help you) but I didnt have any fitment/alignment issues.
Lets start with this. What oil pump are you actually running right now? We couldnt tell you an answer until we know what you have. Also, are you sure you want to TwinTurbo this.... Im pretty sure you dont....
Have you done anything else to the car or plan on doing it? Because building a head doesnt yield much on our platform. What size cams are you looking at, or what are you looking to get them regrinded to?Also Mark bullet just did some research on an oem upgrade thats better than using 4g63...
If you plan on boosting all the info and questions you will ever ask have pretty much been covered between here and 2gnt.com... Get on the forums and just read for about a month or so and take in all the info you can, then decide if you want to boost it... It is a long expensive road for most (...
thank you! you just solved about 2 weeks of searching and e-mailing folks. But i do have a follow up question if they are all the same why did howell/AFX offer year specific computers?
2GNT.com - 1997_ECU 2GNT.com - 1998_ECU by looking at the first 10-15 pins it looks like a noticeable difference... looks like 10 or so pins are different between these two diagrams.SO I would assume that I should use the 97 pinout because its teh closest to the 96 as far as production goes
I saw your post from that in an earlier thread but I need to know whats different/changed if I am going to refer to the 97 diagram without having to go to my car to look.Since I am building a PnP harness I need to know exactly where each pin is
Im working on a custom install of my megasquirt using a ecu connector (because I want to run full stand alone but I have to switch back for emissions every year) and I cannot for the life of me find a 1996 ECU pinout. If anyone has one or knows where I can get one please let me know!
Lately I have been lean surging REALLY bad in about the 2k-3.5k range while driving.I have three check engine light codes:12= power disconnected from ecu in last 50 cycles
31= Evap solenoid circuit
51= Lean fuel systemI know the 12 is appearing because my ecu seems to be crapping out...
Short answer:
Yes, the GS and RS are the same transmission wise. And many neon trannys will work...Did you try to click on the links to the information in the thread regarding this? The 2 links literally tell you everything you need to know.
Id honestly just save up for a rebuild.... even if its just a stock one so you can get another ~200k miles out of itThere isnt much you can bolt on to this to get a significant power increase with out going to internals such as cams and pistons.
did you check out rockauto.com or 420A Mitsubishi / Chrysler 2.0 DOHC 16V Engine PartsIf your valvetrain isnt damaged I would just rebuild the bottom and re gasket everything else. Also with that kit I would find out who made all the parts going into the kit as it only specifies a few...

I have a GS with a CAI, MSD ignition, and a 4-1 race exhaust... (those arent really big mods ) but I dont have a problem from 70-100. It might be because I have a manual but my acceleration is fine.
ditto on the JE/Wiesco pistons!also pick up some Main Studs as well as Headstuds (both ARP)BTW make sure your knowledgable on how to properly break in a new engine so your rings get seated.Ive heard that CImotorsports has REALLY BAD customer service.
I think the Antenna Has an extra ground or something worked into the connector because I used to have a problem with my radio not turning on because of a loose connector with the antenna.... I actually had that problem with two different brand radios
I dont know where I saw them but if you pay over $119.99 for your arp headstuds your paying too much. Thats one of the better prices that Ive seen for the 4g motor..Also you should be able to get your Gates Blue belt for under $70 anything more isn't worth paying for the same Item
