Nah, thats how all the eclipse motors are (in the top pic). The stock motor that I pulled out before my bottom picture, looks just like the top one. Just not as clean :|
So im in the process of repairing about 8 cam cap stripped threads in my cylinder head with heli-coils. Not sure how so many got stripped, last time these bolts were touched was 8+ years ago when I installed new cams. Is it possible for the bigger cams to put enough stress on the bolts to cause...
Painted the engine bay, was way easier than I anticipated it being. Its not perfect but I like the outcome a whole lot more than what it used to look like.
Oil pickup tube purchased from DCR does not fit the 420a oil pan, sent email to DCR waiting to hear back from them. Product is listed under 420a on their site but it looks like it is only meant for the bigger neon oil pan.
Reusing the head from the old motor with Stage 2 cams, retainers, springs, and upgraded lashers/adjusters. Head before being sent off to get cleaned and surfaces checked and pressure checked. Also noticed the harmonic dampener is different between the Neon motor (Right) and the Eclipse...

Purchased a blown 2.0 motor from a 2000+ neon for $50 that I decided I can use to rebuild. Motor taken apart before going off to machine shop.Motor back from shop on stand ready for new parts.Wiseco Pistons, Manley Rods, ARP hardware, new bearings, all ready to be installed...

I'm starting this build thread now, even though I've owned this car for 12 years now so a lot of things will be missing. Ill throw in some older pictures I have found but wont get too much into detail about past mods. Will try to keep current with everything I have currently going on...
I also have the Tsudo cat back and deleted catalytic converter. I think it sounds pretty good with that setup. Mine is turbo though so yours may sound a bit different.
As he said. Either modify a jeep TB or purchase one linked below. I'd recommend the latter since its 5mm bigger (Jeep is 55mm IIRC) and it is a quality piece that has been proven...

https://darrellcoxracing.com/shop?olsPage=t%2Fmitsubishi-eclipse-420aTube does not clear the pan, preventing it from bolting up to the block.
Rebuilding motor using an 00-05 Neon block. Here are the Balancers from each block, the one pulled off the stock 420a looks a lot larger than the one on the neon block. Should I use a 420a Balancer with this new build or the neon one? Also the water jackets look a little more rigid on the neon...
I'm not sure if there is one in that area or not. Next step is removing the old motor, I'll get a better idea when it's out, then I can line up the trans on the new one.
I'd rather not have to replace the block as I have money in machining in it. That second picture is from the stock bottom end block that is currently in the car, I dont know if just swapping the bedplate will work with clearances. I don't have the broken piece, I might see if there is a way to...
Noticed that the engine I am building has this mount broken off on the bedplate. Of course, I notice this after it is assembled with new parts. Second picture is a bedplate without mount broken off. Am I screwed with this bedplate, or would it be ok to run without that transmission bolt?
