I just got the head back on my car after doing a valve job to it. I am getting really bad vacuum and can't find the leak. Does base timing advance affect the vacuum?
OK so this bad boy still isn't running. I've looked into the flywheels and there are different sizes based on AWD/FWD and obviously 1G/2G because of 6/7 bolt. Now my next question is do the 1G AWD and the 1G FWD have different starter models? I went to the parts store today and they tried to...
Is there any way to check if it is the wrong part? I held the two next to each other and looked to see if one was different. I specifically looked at the domed part where the gear sits in. They appeared to be the same size. Does the FWD have anything obviously different in appearance?I...
Ok so I've been working on this problem for about a week and I haven't been able to work out all of the problems yet. I replaced my starter motor the bendex spring in it had gone bad and wasn't engaging the flywheel. I got the new one tested and installed it. The new one is doing the same...
I run the Evo 16g. It's a great choice. Quick spool times because it's not a monster but it's big enough to run 20 PSI on pump if you get the supporting mods.
I got mine out fine I just had to take it out with out the mounting bracket attached to it. Took a couple minutes to angle it right and squeeze it out.
He was saying your piston rings aren't holding the pressure any more, nothing about the PCV valve. The PCV is a cheap fix you can try it.Check this site out and do a real compression test when you've taken the car for a 10 minute drive. http://www.dsmgrrrl.com/FAQs/compression.htmThe...
You can do a boost leak test too. If you get air coming out of the valve cover or the dipstick then you have blowby from the rings or cracked pistons too but I've never heard of that. Do the leak test from the intake pipe not the turbo inlet that will eliminate the turbo bearings as a leak.
Thanks just what I was looking for. I bought a micheline type it had 3 different adapters and fit perfectly although a bit bulky and ugly it will do the job.
Ya I did notice I was trying to epoxy the thing back together for a temporary solution. I will look into those replacement blade kits after work thanks.
First snow of the year and I got ice all over my wipers. Slapped them on the windshield and snapped the plastic clip part that holds the blade on the arm. I've tried calling parts stores around me like NAPA and CAP neither one lists a replacement. I'd rather avoid the junk yards since they...
You can put together a set of -6 AN lines from Summit Racing for $80 even with the expensive metric adapters. If you buy some autozone cooler you'd probably save $10 from what I paid.
If you want to raise your revs I would recommend some stiffer springs. Don't bother replacing the valves yourself. For starters you need a machine shop to redeck the thing and hand lapping the valves is never going to get those seats as smooth as they should be. I know I've tried. If you...
For compression testing your not worried about spark it's fuel. To stop the fuel just disconnect the MPI fuse on the + battery terminal. It's the blue relay. If you can't figure it out just unplug the fuel injectors.
I've replaced the cap and the hoses already. The top hose is getting hot if I run it long enough. That means the thermostat is opening right? Anyway the car will do it on short runs that don't even allow it to heat up to regular running temp.
I pulled a stupid. I just put in my new short block and everything was going fine. I drove a few times went to fill the coolant and forgot to put the cap back on. I ran it on the highway and the car over heated I pulled over right away while it was still climbing through normal range (after...
Are 1G and 2G injectors the same as long as they are both 450's? I need to replace mine and saw someone selling 2g 450s. Or so they claimed. Is that even a stock size for 2g motor cars?
I was just reading this thread http://www.dsmtuner.com/forums/showthread.php?t=194328&highlight=overheating and the guy claimed to have full compression just before his car started to smoke. We'll see what he gets when he retests.
I'm running the Evo III 16G with a 2.5 turbo back from RNR with nothing ported on it and I never get boost creep at 15 PSI. I get occassional spike of 1-2 PSI if I let off all the way over 4k and then floor it again.
The only job easier is probably changing your tire. All you have to do is disconnect everything attached to it. That will include 4 lines (2 coolant and 2 oil), the 2 intake pipes on the left side, the exhaust o2 houseing on the right and then the exhaust manifold on top.edit: oh ya drain...
Never heard of them. I have a walbro myself and have had a good experience with it. These pumps look the same on the out side the top is the same as the walbro. The 255 unit is propbably going to be loud. What size injector or boost do you plan on seeing. That could help you decide whether...
On a 1G there is a throttle stop switch that will tell the ECU that the throttle is closed no matter what the TPS is saying. So if the TPS is out of spec then the ECU will through a code everytime the throttle closes. I would assume 2Gs are similar.
I paniced too quick last night. I found the problem. It was the inspection plate for the tranny rubbing up against the fly wheel. I bent the plate around a little and now it's fine. Thank god cause I was going to cry if my new short block was trashed before I even drove it.
I just finished installing my stage 1 from SBR. Got the thing all hooked up put new fluid in it and primed the new oil pump. The probelem is that is is making a horrible scretching noise. It is definitely a metal on metal noise but I can't figure out where it could be coming from. The sound...
I'm not sure if this is the right part or not. The guy from NAPA sounded confussed and didn't want to order the seal for me unless I was really sure it was the right one. Can you find the part # or tell me if this one is the right seal...
I didn't leak until I pulled the axles out. I just wasn't sure if that should happen or not. And there are a bunch of Napas out here so I will just try a different one. Maybe they just didn't want to order it or something.
I've been working on swapping in a new short block. When I took the axles out of the tranny it was leaking oil from the both sides. Is this normal or do I need new seals? Also the transfer case leaked when I pulled out the drive shaft and the oil was gray and very little maybe a cup. It was...
I'm replacing my shortblock and I've never done a clutch job before. I guess that you have to align a clutch and the pressure plate when you install them on the tranny. I'm not doing a clutch job or anything but I didn't know if there was anything like that you had to do to install a flywheel...
Yes it does thanks. I was just looking at my new oil pump and the 3 black round ones in the middle are included as part of that so I can knock those off the list now too.
I'm getting ready to do my first motor swap. Well it's not a full block its just a short block. So I ordered a full gasket set and am unsure as to where they all go. I figured out the upper ones easily cause I've done a head rebuild before. Here's a pic of the lower ones that I couldn't...
What are your intentions for the car? Daily driver? Street/Strip? All Strip?I would check the car's coolant and oil to see if they are mixing(brown muck). And buy a compression gauge and check the compression. If 2 adjacent cylinders are low or the coolant and oil are mixed its pretty...
I just ordered an oil pump from topline. Now the box says 89-92 eclipse on the side. But the front cover is stamped DOHC 7. I got a couple weeks before my motor shows up so I have nothing to do but worry about little things like this. Anyone know how to tell the difference between the 6 and...
I've never tried to use AN fittings before. I'm not totally sure it the best method for my application either or something else should be used. I want to replace the lines from my oil coiler(stock 1G style) because they have become cracked and I'm not putting stock in them holding up for my...
If you can do a timing belt then just save yourself the aggravation. If you keep waiting for the head gasket to let go your just going to have a mess on your hands. I've never worked on cars before I bought my DSM took me an afternoon to get the job done. Be sure and have something like PB...
OK here's the situation...I have a motor that burns a quart of oil every 300 miles. The number 2 cylinder is scuffed and the spark plug has excesive carbon build up and oil on the threads. So my guess is that cylinder is in bad shape. The car still has good compression so I'm driving it for...
I would ignore the boost leaks idea till it's running. The brake booster and the PCV lines are big enough to cause the car not to run but there's still hoses attached to them your problem most likely lies else where still to be found. I would check the fuel and spark. Easiest way to check for...
I was thinking about this problem my car is having and thought that maybe there is a switched power and constant power wire for the ECU kind of like a stereo setup has. Does anyone know if this is true and witch pin on the harness it would be? The car runs fine and doesn't show any other signs...
