No problem Doug. The sockets you posted do look useful and I may go buy some of those for the old tool box myself. They look like they could come in handy in many applications. I do understand what you mean with the impact guns but I dont use them for that type of work. I doubt it is that...
That is why we are having issues here Doug; we are talking apples and oranges. This is the wobble extension that I am speaking of : http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/OBJECTS/18700/18609.JPGThis specific one allows for 16 degrees of movement I believe that is slightly more than mine. You put a...
Hey, look brother I'll be the first to admit I thought I was under attack so I responded in kind. That is what made it about who is right and who is wrong which I will take partial responsibility for. I'm not trying to win any prizes or be the smarter person. I am sure I would loose that battle...
Now that is correct Paul, in all the excitement I did forget we were talking about the corner bolts which are at a 35 ft/lbs spec. Now that said, your sceintific research does yeild a simple solution here though. Again if the car has not been started/ driven then your analysis would dictate that...
No Sir, this ^^^ statement is False. (no offence) If a bolt is torqued to 20 ft/ lbs, it will take more than a 1/4 turn to reach the appropriate 50 ft/lbs of torque. There fore no stretching has taken place. What you still have is a bolt that has not reached the proper torque specs and can still...
What swivel joint? IF you use a wobble extension which is what I do, your wrench will still get it damn close, granted the angle will throw off the torque a slight bit, but what do you think that last 1/4 turn is for? It's to make sure that if your wrench is off a tad that you still get there...
It's not just that though, it is how comfortable do you feel with the power they give you. For 500+hp you will have to adjust spark and fuel and that leaves you only with MS or portfuler / ign box combo. The other side to that is are you ready to control a whole car or are you just ready to tune...
Take the VC off and torque them the rest of the way, it will cost you a new gasket but it's worth the $20. You don't need to take the cams and whatnot out again, but if you start driving it undertorqued like that you are likely asking for trouble esp if you used the new MLS gasket..
Looks fine to me, but I can't really tell from this angle. As for the neon thing, that is exactly why it would not fit his car because the heads are reversed and therefore so are all the passages for coolant and oil etc...
The real question is who makes the t3/t4 you are using? Each manufacturer of Garrett STYLE turbo has there own specifications as to how to feed their turbo.. There are only a few turbos that actually require you to run a restrictor. IT does not apply to all garrett style turbos. This...
A lot of what problems? The portfuler and the 8 injector setup is the same thing.. MSNS is a lot tougher than the 8 inj setups, but with some base maps and some tuning experience it's not that bad....
You do have a constant 12v to that resistor box at all times right? You do have the EFI setup to provide GROUND to the injectors when they fire correct? Right now it sounds like your EFI is not getting juice so you need to find out what that is about first. Check the relay, try to hard wite it...
Well you are not buying the radiator trying to lower the running temp of your engine, you are just buying it to keep from overheating. And that is it's exact function. Now that you have all that extra heat under the hood, when you run the AC it puts too much strain on the system and it starts to...
So first of all don not drive the car at 250 degree temps, that is WAY too high. Now yes another fan will help with the temps, and your friend is a moron. The fans are powered based on temps, not motion. I have the C&R rad and it came with one fan that was not enough, so I put a second fan on...
Yeah that turbo is not the "normal" turbo that comes with the kit. You could call up turbonetics directly and see what you have. But that turbo was not ment for the Star Kit. Where did you order from? The polished housing is not a sign of BB or no BB it's just another option in the ordering. As...
If I were you I would just use the stock gasket.. The stock MLS is a great HG and I doubt you'll get any better performance from the other one. Plus I have not heard any issues using the stocker, but I have not ever heard of this other one and it's results...
You will NOT need a bigger Head Gasket. Use the stock HG and everything will be fine. A long rod kit does not cause the piston to raise out of the bore, if it did your rings would hit the gasket. All the long rod does is keep the piston at TDC for a milisecond longer....
YOU CAN'T USE ANYTHING OFF A 4G63 EXCEPT BODY OR INTERIOR PARTS!!! So get that out of your head now... You will have to make them yourself or get someone to do them for you....
First make the power, then worry about snapping axles.. I have driveshaft shop stage 3's and I love them, but you can't use the shafts from the other car. Upgraded axles are NOT cheap, but if your making enough power they become necessary, until then your just burnuing $$$$...
Come on james I think you are leaning just a little bit here don't you?? I love Hahn and have talked to bill and others etc... so they know I have love for them, but their kit is not for everyone. As for your comment about High HP, that's just silly. Just because there are not a high number of...
Well Your Idle problem is more than likely an IAC issue which is the other sensor on your throttle body (not your TPS). It is prolly dirty as hell and sticking so you need to clean it. Also you can buy those 550"s but good luck getting them to idle or drive with an S-AFC and an FPR... Your going...
Do you have a manual for the car? If not I suggest you pick one up or go to www.2gnt.com and in the forums look for a post by darkone. He has a link in his sig to an online manual that will talk about timing. You have to get the crank timing to 1/2 tooth before TDC then aligin your cam gears to...
If your asking this question then you can not do this yourself. For you I would reccomend a pre-built shortblock. I believe Howell is the only place doing these any more, however I could be wrong on that. As for stroking the motor, the only place that will do this without it being completly...
That's the best thing about the star you don't have to re-buy the turbo to make 500HP. Nothing goes wrong with the star after a while, your more likely to have issues with a hahn kit down the road than a star kit. EX: Hahn's mani is Steel the Star is cast iron. I have seen more Hahn mani's crack...
What is missing from the turbo kits that you want? The turbo kits available have most of the things that you would want. Are you looking for a diff sized turbo or what? Also if you don't know all that you need to build a custom kit, then you're prolly not ready to build one yourself.
WHAT???? The only way this would happen is if you put the belt on 2 teeth off in the first place. Secondly timing belts do not just "jump 2 teeth" unless they are not installed properly in the first place. I too have had mine off by half a tooth and it would not even start and idle. All cars may...
Can I ask who you are comparing Justin? I just want to make sure you compare apples to apples here, as I don't see how using the stroker motor would cause you to loose HP VS a 2.0L motor. That is against the laws of science...
If you have all things equal (like turbo size, head work, cams...
It may be a little cheaper depending on how you do it. If it were me I would still be buying all the forged pistons and rods too rather than using the other options that make it a little cheaper. Plus I always factor time and hasstle into my cost comp.'s. I love my howell engine it performs well...
You only have a few options:
1. AFX ECU (I would not use this with a turbo if I were you)
2. Complete stand alone (good luck) If you try anything like this I would only reccomend the Megasquirt and if your asking this question then I don't think your ready for that yet.
3. Piggy backs SAFC, 8...
There is no MM measurment for the sending unit. You need to be talking NPT sizes. I'm not sure but I believe it is a 1/4" NPT fittimg that you will need the T for. Then you will need a reducer to take the 1/4" T down to an 1/8" NPT for your turbo feed line. If you have the oil sensor then take...
Acctually I can tell you... The stroker motor at stock compression would give you 10% more power throught your whole RPM range. Now if you go lower comp on the pistons then you will lose some of that net gain. Now with boost added to the mix (given all things are the same which can't happen in...
This guy^^^ is correct DO NOT put anything in that trany other than the proper fluid from the dealer. It's usually about $11 a quart but you only need 2 and you don't have to change the stuff very often.
You do have a knock sensor on the back of your block. It doesn't do much for you though. It will not tell you that you are knocking. All it will do is pull timing at the ECU. However since in it's stock form the 420a has roughly a snowballs chance in hell of knocking the system does not really...
I'm not going to get into the debate that is underlying this thread, however I will say that the above statement is completly false and un grounded. Hahn is still still on a stock tranny save for an upgraded clutch and axles. The 420a tranny will hold some power guy's.
I don't know which FPR Hahn is planning on supplying with the kit but I assume it's the same 1:1 that we use on the 8 inj. setup. Even if it's not the same unit, areomotive products have a rock solid reputation and so does Hahn, so don't worry about the quality. Also your SFMU will not be...
I do not own an AFC but I still doubt it will work. AFAIK the AFC is a piggy back system, which still doesn't change the fact that the stock N/T ECU will not fuel the car under boosted conditions.. May be I do not understand your goal of all this though.. Are you trying to have this device add...
^^^^ that's CRAZY!!!!! For that kind of money you could buy a prebuilt block and rebuild your head.... That's with all forged go fast parts too.. I wouldn't pay 3500 for a stock rebuilt anything....
I like your idea here as I run the 034eic also with 44lb secondary inj's. The one problem I see in your idea though is using the stock ECU to control the extra injectors. (If the 4g63 ecu is simillar to the 420a) Esp. if it's a N/T ecu. The stock ECU (at least on the 420a) would be problematic...
If I were you I would call them to tell them you got the wrong fpr and while you are on the phone ask them if the pump they sent is correct. It will have a part # on it somewhere...
Yeah that is the prices that your EXPECTING to pay but I assure you it will end up more than that. Esp. if you go with that whole list you made. Some of that stuff is not necessary at all. As for a cheaper route, Hahn now sells mani/ turbo combos, and then you can add on the parts you want from...
Well Bro whatever you did during the installation is what has caused your problem. In order to get rid of the issue you have to put EVERYTHING back to the way it was before installation. AND FOR THE LOVE OF GOD ASK SOMEONE NEXT TIME BEFORE YOU ORDER SOME STUPID STUFF LIKE THIS. I am going to...
Yes you will have to upgrade the star fuel system to run 14-15psi. All star's "fuel system" is, is a vortech 12:1 fmu. All it does is add fuel at a 12:1 ratio to your boost. I run 18psi on my star kit with the 8 injector set up John mentioned above. It's a good system and you don't have to...
The main difference in ECU's for the 2gnt is 95 vs 96-99. The changes in the 96-99 models were slight. The 95 ECU was night and day to the later models. I believe there are people at 2gnt using ECU's from 99's in their 97's and vice versa. The last years of the 2gnt are all pretty much the same...
Wow I have been away too long. There are 3 choices for turboing a 420a. They are Hahn, Star, or Custom. As for the AFX ECU, it works for non turbo cars but do not use it with a turbo car, it advances timing and on the 2gnt's that usually = boom. grmoo you don't know enough yet to be thinking...
