http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?t=460060I'm gonna be doing this sometime this summer to my gsx. Helped a friend do his mustang over the winter. It is time consuming and really works better with 2 or 3 people but looks great when it's done and doesn't ruin the paint.
You can get enough 3M vinyl wrap to do the whole car, plus adhesive, gloves, squeegees and a heat gun for about 500. It is time consuming but comes out looking real nice. There's another thread going around that talks a lot about it and has links to how to do it. I'll see if I can find it...
So, we took off the timing covers and looked at the timing again. It didn't look wrong. We spent a little time screwing around and checking things over, and tried to start the car again. Now, no start at all.... :confused:After a bit we figure maybe no spark. Ta da! No spark :notgood:So...
It is not the factory yellow. The guy that owned it before me painted it yellow. It left the factory red. The previous owner also got in an accident and painted half of it after the accident so it is two different yellows right now lol.Long term I'm thinking of vinyl wrapping it...
It was a great weekend out. Glad spring is finally here. Things with the car went well all things considered. We ended up doing a mildly modified version of the fuel pump rewire mod for now to get the car running. Ran 10ga wire from battery to a relay. Put a switch on it. Boom. Fuel. LolSo we...
I just happened to stumble across this again. It's been almost exactly a year since I posted this. I am sad to report that due to a flood, and some unexpected expenses, the car is not running. However, I am planning on working on it today and tomorrow. All that's left is getting the fuel pump to...
I am very late in starting this build at this point. There's a fair amount of background, but the story is important to the car. I am finally getting to the point where this car will be ready to be driven regularly and I am thrilled by that. In the 1 year and 3 months I've owned the car, it has...
You don't have a downpipe... That motor is not turbo'd. You have headers leading to an exhaust system. You could buy new headers or a new exhaust system. Chances are you can find something on ebay for ~$200 or you could get it done at a local shop for a little more. You could theoretically swap...
I am in the process of putting my Stage I 2.3l SlowBoy Racing shortblock in my GSX now. Cost me around $3000... I feel like you could get away cheaper than you are, even looking for the performance and quality you're looking for.
I'm kinda trying to get this thing running soon. It seemed to be working despite its issues. I was hoping to drive with this turbo til the new one or the rebuild kit gets here. IDK
So I did a little digging around and I'm getting hit or miss answers on what I should do at this point. My turbo (small 16G) is looking pretty beat up. It has some in and out shaft play (doesn't seem like any side to side, just in and out). It has a few cracks on the inside of the exhaust side...
BOV looks like the one that comes with the punishment-racing/godspeed project FMIC sets. It's basically a greddy type-s ebay knockoff. Everyone says they leak, mine hasn't yet. Keep it til you get can something better
eeeewidner thank you so much. This damn truck has already had problems with the front pump seal, and I got the lucky batch of castec cylinder heads that leak coolant :banghead: These problems were both just fixed and then this haha. I thought my GSX had problems lol.I have been all over...
So my DD (2004 Chevy Silverado Z71 4.8l) is making a buzzing/whoshing type noise when shifting for the first 2 - 5 minutes of driving. Never noticed it before, but it has done it every time I start the vehicle cold this week. Anyone had similar issues or know what it might be?I know sounds...
Zero compression vs low compression are very different things...And trashing people from Mass is unfair. I don't live that far from you and I have had help from people that have been quite good. What do you mean when you say rebuild? Top End? Bottom End? Both? What mods do you have? What...
I'll probably stick with the 272's. Maybe if a money tree grows in my lawn I'll get the Kelfords :DI've got some good info for the motor now, but I just thought about my tranny and drivetrain. Should I be looking at upgrades in these areas?
I like the 272's for the setup I have now, and they have less than 400 miles on them so I'd like to keep them if I could, but am willing to go to something else if it would be beneficial. What would constitute a "stroker" cam?EDIT: just re-read both posts. So high lift- low duration is what I...
Ok, I have seen quite a bit of talk about strokers on this forum and I am thinking about making the jump next summer, but I want to ask a few directed questions before I do anything.First and foremost here is my mod list: The DSM Registry Ver2
(I believe my mod list in my profile here is...
Thanks for the reply. I'm going the route of a new switch. I have a three prong, three setting switch. Yesterday I tried hooking up one side of the switch to the red and black wires running into the column switch and got nothing out of it.
So, at some point during my rebuild my column switch for my lights ate it. The day I was trying to get the car on the road the lights just wouldn't turn on (well headlights, taillights, markers, and my dash). I replaced the relays in the fuse box (engine compartment fuse box) and still nothing...
I am having the exact same noise happen, except between 2000-3000 rpms. It sounds like it's coming from the timing belt side of the motor. It's on a 1G btw. It's depressing because I just finished rebuilding the head and this is happening. IDK what it is.Any ideas would be greatly...
OP, did you buy just a new belt, or did you get a kit with pulleys and a new tensioner?I did the same thing when I first did the belt on my 1G. I must have set it 4 times before I realized my tensioner was shot and wasn't putting enough tension on the belt. I went out and bought...
I had never ventured into tuning before, but just got DSMLink and it is amazing. There is a lot of knowledge and tutorials both here and on ECMTuning's (DSMLink's) website/forum.
Why is your Car listed as your email Ev? lol. List the 240!Anyways, I guess we will try firing and letting it idle for a bit soon. Datalog everything, and post back with results.
I had a suspicion it might be something like that. But it is a very unnerving noise. I haven't let it idle for more than maybe 20 seconds because it is very unsettling to hear a mechanical noise like that and not assume its a problem.
So I bought my first DSM about 2 months ago. When I got it, my friend Evan and I thought we would just need to put a new timing belt on, fix the brake lines, and we would be all set. Well here we are two months and an entire top end rebuild later and the car still hasn't left the driveway.I...
I believe the manufacturer spec lowest compression rating to perform service is 120. So I would assume the car wouldn't run very well anything under that.Dropped compression could be due to piston rings, head gasket, bent/broken valves, beat valve seals, etc etc.I'm not sure what would...
Just bought a re manufactured head from J&C Enterprise. It's beautiful. Comes with OEM Valves, seals, springs and retainers. You will need to either keep and re-use your rockers and lifters (don't mix them up!) or buy new ones. Not bad for < $300 :hellyeah:2.0 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE 4G63 DOHC...
I was running 5W-30 the couple weeks before the car went off the road this winter and it was fine. Probably looking at something thicker for the summer.
I'm running a $200 dollar no-name cat-back on my Mazda and it sounds bada$$. I love it. It drones a bit on the highway, but that's the price you pay to have a loud car :)
That is a true statement. I didn't plan on spending more than $1500 (including the $1000 the car cost) total before summer-time on my DSM. Now I have spent $1500 in addition to the $1000 for the car, and can't stop buying and working. It's a sickness and I love it. :thumb:
Just bought 272's. I can't wait to get them in.I definitely agree with everyone saying to do some maintenance first tho. I didn't think my GSX was in bad shape at all when I bought it. It's 7 weeks later and I'm knee deep in a top end rebuild during the worst winter in New England in years. :D
