The photo shows my original cast aluminum wheel from my 1990 Talon Tsi. Any body know a reliable place that can refurbish these wheels or that will sell these new or refurbished wheels.
Thanks,
Thanks for the advice. I managed to remove a couple of bolts by moving repeatedly, turning back and forth. Before I remove the rest, I want to make sure that I have replacements. The bolts look special, with head washer and a collar that I guess is there to space the facia plastic and prevent...
I need to remove the bolts under the chin of the front bumper facia. What is the head size of those bolts and where can I get new ones. Mine are pretty rusted and I can not get a wrench to grip them properly. Any tips or tricks to remove them would be appreciated.
@goldennugget, can you describe your new driveshaft setup? Does it use the existing front shaft with the front bearing and then a new solid shaft from there to the rear diff, eliminating the Lobro joint and the second bearing? Are you noticing any more vibrations at high speed?
Thank you, @techboy. I read the post HOW TO: Swap AWD Transmission Output Shafts. It clearly shows how to remove the VCU. What I am not clear on is what HAS to be removed on the car to get to the 5th gear cover. Do we know for sure?
I get it now but I was thinking of using the VCE and removing the driveshaft so the diff is not driven. Does that get you a normal front wheel drive, or will the diff complain being free-wheeling?
@ ThunderChild, thanks for the offer but please give me a couple of weeks to attempt to solve my issues with the AWD. The VCE may be my option if my attempts fail.
Based on @Canadian_CD9A post, I surmise that the VCU in the transaxle distributes the drive torque between the front and back...
Thanks for the info. I did not know what a VCU and VCE was but I searched this site that found that driving just the front wheels on a AWD is discussed here and requires installation of a Viscous Coupler Eliminator. I, probably can no longer get a VCE, and even if I could, I would not find...
Now they tell me that I need work done on the drive-shaft (propeller). They say it needs to be repaired or replaced. Meanwhile I need to use the car for only local commute. If they pull out the drive-shaft can I still use the car as front-wheel? The transmission should not care that it is not...
Thanks but the partsgeek product is for FWD non-turbo. I spent a day googling to no avail. I will go with the Vibrant muffler and look locally for a custom exhaust shop. I was told there is a shop with a pipe bender. Thanks for all your help.
Thanks, #1990TSIAWDTALON. I like the Vibrant muffler with Round Angle Cut Tips. With a body of 15 inch and overall 23 inch, it matches the OEM pretty well. The inlet is 2.5 inch so the custom tail piece will have to bring it down to the 1.75 inch (yes?) of the intermediate pipe outlet. The...
I want to replace my 28 year-old original exhaust system (1G) with a bolt-on stock replacement. I bought the front and intermediate pipes using the info on this site, but I have no luck finding the muffler. I like the original look of the 14-1/2 inch oval unit with the dual chrome tips. Is there...
@Laiden, what are the rear diff bushings; Is it what some call mustache bar? I got my crossmember bushings from Ziggy at Canada's RTM Racing. They also carry the 1g mustache bushings.
I guess my Eagle is not ready for the crusher. Thank you all for your input and thanks to ileagleracing for RRT Motorsports of Canton. Raif at RRT Motorsports is da man.
Thank you so much guys for giving me hope. The subframe looks solid to me but the mechanic showed me that the bushing was squished and there was about a 1/4 inch play. His theory is that this motion may have enlarged the bolt hole in the subframe therefore requiring a new subframe. He may have...
My mechanic tells me that my rear subframe crossmember bushings are perished and repair will require a new subframe and bushings, which are not available. He says that the car needs to be junked. Everything else on the car is in superb condition (100K original miles). Anyone know if there is a...
People stop me and ask about this car. You just don't see these daily anymore. They tell me that they blew these cars up when they were young, so many years ago. Many say "would you sell it". I say "No".
I need to replace my OEM muffler (1990 talon AWD). I would like to replace it with stock for a simple bolt-on. I googled like crazy but can not find one in the USA. I found an over-seas site called Megazip.net that has the MB549025. Does anybody know if this is a legit site and has anyone done...
The good news is I could easily remove and install the headliner without messing with the seatbelt guides. But now my problem is getting the headlining trim in place, those rubber strips in front and back of the headliner.
Anybody know how to do this properly or are there any tricks to get this...
Thanks, seattleshawn. I will Pull the 4 bolts on the guide and see what happens.
Fehrion_sit DSM did not make it easy to get to the headliner. I will summarize my experience when I am done.
I managed to remove all the trim to expose the headliner.
Now I notice that there are side tabs that go behind
the seat-belt guide rails. Do I need to remove the guide rails or is there enough flex in the headliner to pull out around the rails. I would hate to break the headliner.
Thanks for...
SOLVED - It was a failed part on the PCM.
Thanks to the local Ex-Mitsubishi (now KIA) technician
who noticed that the computer was getting varying values
from sensors such as O2, pressure and temp. A common
point for those sensors is the PCM. After the module was
repaired, the car runs as...
Hi GRAVEDIGGER. Chasing this problem for the last few months,
I replace the plugs and wires, cleaned the throttle body and
intake manifold runners, ran injector cleaner, replaced the MAF
and tested other sensors. No Luck.
I am focused on the fact that the problem goes away every
time after...
I do not think it is idle surge.
When I start cold, the idle will rev to about 1500
and is fairly steady as it comes down slowly to 750.
That part feels normal. But if I put her in gear within
2-3 minutes after the start it will lurch forward and stop,
lurch and stop That is what I mean...
Thanks luv2rallye for your response.
In cfisher thread regarding vapor lock, he only had problems when
the car was hot. I have this bucking for a couple of minutes even after
a cold start when the car sat overnight in the cold New England Winter.
Could you get vapor lock just when the car...
For about 6 months my 1990 Eagle Talon Tsi AWD will buck
after it is started when put in gear, even with light throttle.
I wait a couple of minutes, the idle comes down to 750 and it
will now run just fine. During that initial time I think it is running
rich because I can smell the...
