Did manage to find a site that sells them. But im going to have over $130 for both sides. Im just gonna take mine completely off and see what happens with state inspection. Worse they can do is fail me til i fix it.
I appreciate the responses guys. I ripped into my parts car last night to find that they were in worse shape than the car Im working on. Taking them off completely has been a consideration. This car is not gonna be a DD. Its a project car. Its going to get PA Classic plates and Ill be lucky to...
Been doing lots of research trying to find new rear brake backing plates. Haven't come across them anywhere. Worse comes to worse Ill buy used form the local yard or online. If anyone has any leads or knows of somewhere that sells them, please let me know.
The whole concept of running it hard is to allow the honing in the cylinder walls to cut the rings into sealing shape. So in my opinion you should vary the Rpms but I wouldnt totally wot on the first run.
I may actually make this meet :) Car is finally taking shape. Interior is almost back together, body parts reassembled, and engine and transmission along with many many goodies ready to go in!
Your probably just hearing the spool. Typically when the stock air filter and box is replaced with a K and N type the intake noises are way more audible. The stock airbox baffles all the intake noises.
You can definitely make things icy which is bad. With a water to air system, you can bring intake temps way down. But even at that they may be in the 50's to 60's. Pulls the level of detonation way down from high temps. But if you add a water injection and nitrous you could really make things cold.
i like the idea of being local. It would be cool to get a whole bunch of us together but seems like quite a haul. I need to get my truck done so I can finish the car. Waiting on parts to basicallly rebuild the engine and most of the driveline :) Ill have a nice reliable non dsm daily driver!
I understand that lol. I seen how it happened at the meet back in may. I had the bone stock, purple 2g(ik its ugly lol thats why its a parts car. It has many nick names.... Purple lighening, barney...) Im just at the point now where im motavated to finish it.
I need a goal to keep me motivated on my car. Who is gonna host it and where is it gonna be? lol Ik its early and all but i need to get moving!
Thanks,
Corey
Made hp in the 400's with a GT35R at roughly 28psi on a $30 felpro head gasket from advance.... Tool steel studs but it wasnt the pressure that took it out. Nitrous at idle doesn't help much and took it out. It was completely user error, there was more potential for power.
Cometic gaskets are really fussy. They almost require both mating surfaces to be decked and polished for it to seal properly. The felpro is rather pricy but is way more forgiving. Either way you definitely want a set of arp studs.
Have you tried shaking the wheel around when the car is up in the air. It seems like an alignment issue more than anything. Seems like it would be more like a ball joint or worn tie-rod causing the issue. You may want to try this. You want to certain of where the "clunk" or play is coming from...
Managed to get a nice gray dash with no cracks or black paint like mine! Swapping the dash isn't really all that bad just time consuming. I had about two hours pullling the dash and its harness and about a half hour getting it ready to go back in. Should be back in and all buttoned up tonight...
Haha i got a kick outta of this when we pulled the head. The nitrous selenoid stuck and it tried to come down to idle with it still firing. Didnt last very long.
Yea Im not sure which direction I want to go with the turbo. Ideally I'd like to do a 16G with the stroker setup. Maybe a set of cams at some point. Make a great setup for autocross with the faster spool.
Currently building a 95 Talon Tsi AWD. Bought and empty 5 speed chassis and swapping all my parts from my 96 Auto. Making it out to be a sleeper car. Appearance wise it looks basically stock. I may put an eclipse front clip at some point. The block was torn down hot bathed and assembled with...
Just recently had my block, head and intake manifold hot bathed. Paid around $80 for the block, $25 for the head and another $20 for the manifold. Seems like a lot of money but everything is spotless!!! Just my .02
A Dsm is only as reliable as you make it. If your cheap and half ass and rig everything; that's when your gonna have issues. I've had my first 2g for a little over a year, and the car I'm building almost everything has been gone through and done correctly. People trying to make really cheap...
18 been into DSMs for 2 years now. Currently have two, a purple 96 auto Tsi awd, and a black 95 5 sp Tsi awd. Using the 96 as a parts car and building my 95 from the ground up.
Make sure that as you are disasembling that everything is kept where it is origionaly from. If you are reusing studs and things along those lines, they need to go back in the same holes. Find an open area where things won't be disturbed and lay put parts with one common orientation. For instance...
I agree with all of the above. Most importantly of all, everything needs to be extremely clean. Dirt is your worst enemy. Just taking care to clean and keep things covered will pay off in the long run. You need to take your time and don't rush things. If you are assembling and something doesn't...
id be pulling the pistons out and scrubbing and replacing rings while you have it out. Time consuming but realativily inexpensive. Surface everything to get all the gasket residue off the faces before reassembly.
Yea no possible ways it's spinning backwards. Even at idle the turbine is rotating pretty quickly and carrying momentum. The only thing I could see being an issue is if the bov is malfunctioning, the pressure rushes back towards the turbine when throttle is cut. this cause a loud squealing...
It does get very irritating seeing everyone power hungry and wanting massive hp numbers. The misconception of just having things bolt on and create big power are way over looked. There is a lot of time in between that needs to be taken to make sure everything is where it needs to be. Im going...
I have been helping a friend build a 4g63 swapped conquest. We are currently using a standard 6 bolt with l19 studs and a cheap 30$ head gasket from advanced. We made around 450hp consistently with 28lbs of boost and a 60 shot of nitrous. No issues with a head gasket.
