Man..I don't know why it took me this long to figure out that you had a build thread for this car. Better late than never. I started on page one, and your intro sounded a lot like my situation. I bought my '99 GSX when I was 16 too with a spun rod and traveled along many of the exact same steps...
Just making my routine visit to this thread. Currently looking at a 2008 X and it's a struggle to not want to pull the trigger on it. Something about that wicked white! Somebody talk me out of it.
Yeah. I have a hard time when it comes to thinking about selling it. I am not in a position where I HAVE to right. And the benefit to having it is that it's completely paid for, so I can work on it when able without any financial obligations. Which is nice. I think ultimately, I would like to...
I wish that I had good news to tell anyone that has been following this thread, but I don't. The GSX is still sitting. Being active duty stationed away from it makes it really hard to have work done on it. With each day that goes by I miss it more and more!
Ugh, the itch came back for wanting to purchase a new car. I had to come back to this thread and be reminded that I just need to keep the DSM and put the money into it!
Yeah, I could do that if I wanted to, but I have a perfect DD that's super easy to repair if something were to happen. If I want to go out and 'live life in the fast lane' I can always hop on my Hayabusa. Just trying to be smart with my money, but you can't take it with you when you go right?
That would be ideal to me, thought I also try looking at it this way. If I am going to be paying X amount a month for a car as well as insurance, I could be putting that money into the DSM without being contracted into a loan. I've gone back and forth about it so many times. I guess I'll just DD...
For some reason I have this incorrect logic of, "The newer of a car I have the less problems I'll have with it". I know this is far from true, but I'd like to imagine it is. Besides, a part of me has always wanted an Evo, as I've always liked the 4 door aspect. But when I step back and think...
Assuming that you did a correct boost leak test, I would lean next towards ignition. You have no fuel mods so I don't think the issue lies there. I would say to go back over your boost leak test. So many people get on here saying that they've done a thorough BLT and just kinda gave it a visual...
I noticed that you mentioned the car has a Greddy Type-S. Is the BOV vented to atmosphere or recirculated? If it's VTA that could be a contributing problem to it wanting to die like it is. I'm not saying it's your problem, but I have encounter this issue myself.
Thanks man, means more than you know. I contemplate ridding of it to buy something newer all the time. That's part of the reason I came back to this thread, needed to be reminded where it came from.
Wow, I can't believe that it's been almost a year since I have been able to update this thread with the DSM's progress. In it's current state, it isn't running. Imagine that right? I'll do my best to get this all updated here soon.
Hey DSM community!I'm trying to win this giveaway for a new grip/rail system setup for my 1911! I could really use some help. All you have to do is visit this url and sign up for the giveaway. Every time that you do it ups my entries in the giveaway. It'll only take a minute and I'd...
There's 2 main things that contribute to a car running properly; air, fuel, ignition. Given the fact that you said that you have had ignition problems before that is where I, personally, would check first. When was the last time that you changed your plugs? What is the gap on them. You may have...
You should have had to take the cup holder/ash tray out to reveal what you are looking at in this picture. That particular light illuminates the ash tray, so if you are sitting in the car with the center console to your right, it goes on side that is closest to your right thigh.
Yes, I did figure out this problem. Though I think I only updated it in my build thread for some reason. What happened was one of the bolts that holds the bracket for the A/C compressor had broken, and was in a position to where it wasn't really noticeable. The fact the the bracket had one of...
I am definitely seeking out functionality over cosmetics, granted a newly coated manifold would look oh so good. I appreciate the input on the blanket vs. coating ordeal, all the more furthering my opinion on getting a manifold blanket over paying to get coated.
Not really a big update on the car, but it is doing alright. I am stationed in Idaho and the car resides back home in Missouri. For the time being my father is taking care of it. Just last weekend my radiator took a crap on me. I think the problem came from the radiator just being old enough to...
My apologies, I thought you were referencing the fog light bezels. Are you referring to the air inlet covers as shown in this thread? http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/appearance-interior-exterior/258373-part-number-drivers-side-bumper-air-inlet-cover.htmlIf so you can order brand new ones from...
What you are looking for are fog light bezels, just for future reference. I quick Google search on the matter resulted in quite a few results. Here are a few threads and links as to what you're speaking of...
Sorry I have not updated the thread in while. Doing a lot of focusing on work, updating this thread happens when I really don't have much to do. Now, where did we leave off?15JUL2013 Tein SS Coilver Install ~ Rear Differential Bushings ~ Rear Subframe BushingsAs stated above, I had the...
Thank you. As far as the wheels, they are plasti-dip. It's basically a rubber coating over the wheels that is easily removable, far from comparable to professional paint job.
25JUN2013 DKS Cams ~ HKS Timing Belt Replacement ~ 3g Revised Lifters ~ Purchase of Tein SS Coilovers ~ Misc. MaintenanceI left 15JAN2013 for basic military training, I was at Lackland AFB in San Antonio Texas all the way up until March. While I was there I left the car behind with my...
20DEC2012 Transmission Pulled AGAIN Because of Unknown VibrationI was getting a rattle noise under acceleration somewhere in the front driver area of the car. I do not feel it through the steering wheel, but rather the floor board. I had a broken carrier bearing bolt, so I replaced that and...
Ahh, I know exactly what you are talking about. Lincoln Co. Medical Center is in the town that I live in, well lived in. GDSM is pretty dead, I don't really post much on there, but it's nice when you need a local resource. I would very much so enjoy showing you the GSX if I was home. The Air...
Thank you both very much. It's definitely been my pride and joy, and to know there are people that appreciate the work put into it makes it all worth it. Thank you.I didn't think that it would cause the problems that it did either. It was worth trying out I guess, and somebody else later...
You should be glad that your current draw is what it is. Right now my GSX is drawing 15amps with the key off. The even more worrying part, it's a complete mystery as to where the extra power is coming from...or going for that matter.
20SEPT2012 Plasti-Dip WheelsI had been wanting to change something about the look of my car for a while. I need something to spice it up just a little bit. I debated for a long time as to whether to plastidip my wheels black or not.15JAN2013 Would be the day that I would be getting...
Here you go OP, take a look at this threadhttp://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/appearance-interior-exterior/390469-official-post-your-suspension-setup-thread.html
I have been having problems with my DSM. Long story short, I am looking to buy a NEW Walbro 255. But I also need the connector that goes along with it. My stock hangar has been modified and the stock plug is no longer there. I just need the complete male/female connection with the pump so I can...
20AUG2012 Photos with Friends & Shelly In a CreekClose friend of mine came over with his e30 and we detailed the cars. So why not take some pictures right? Also A few days later I took the GSX out for a cruise taking pictures at random places. One of which ended up being a dried up creek...
24JUN2012 New Airbag CoverBeing that my car sat in a lot for at least 5 years, the sun did quite the number on my airbag cover. I took a trip to a junk yard down in St.Louis and just so happened to come across a whole new airbag assembly, with a perfect cover! This was the only piece that...
Welcome to the wonderful world of tuning! It's a different ball game that for sure. I took a look at your profile and noticed that you have been a member since 2010. With that being said, if you could do us all a favor and update your profile to display all of the current modifications that you...
Yeah, it makes sense. But to this day, ever since I got rid of the welded differential its been so much better for me. I will admit, I didn't really need the welded differential for much. Of course there was planning of tracking the car, but the pros of not having it outweighed the cons, and I...
Until you have removed the carpet from the car to see if there is a stain on the carpet, don't rule out thinking that your master cylinder isn't leaking. You said so yourself that it was showing signs of moisture on the outside of it.I have had the same problem as you, except I had a really...
24MAY2012 Exhaust Leaks & Garage Clean-UpI was getting some pretty off AFR and I couldn't for the life of me figure it out. I could have sworn up and down that I didn't have any exhaust leaks. I convinced myself to get under the car again, and lone behold exhaust leaks! Since this repair was...
