  1. 2G Tubular front k-member build - share ideas!

Paul, how are you going to handle the compression/anti dive arm? Is there a way to ream the knuckle and allow geometry correction with a different ball joint? I believe we can build tishis car to handle but it needs lots more R&D. I get why people are asking about a strut suspension. Look at the...
  2. Who else powder coats?

I am glad I found this thread, I have been powder coating the last two months because I got a job doing it here in Arizona. I havent done anything automotive yet. At work we do some interesting stuff, all mil-spec though. I'm interested in what i can do as far as automotive. I'm going to start...
  3. Thoughts on a stroked 4g64 block with a 4g63 head

Sleeve it and call it a day and build a torque monster. I want to do this for a daily. And RPM isnt everything. My machinist has an old vette, 4.125 inch stroke, and a mere 7000rPM redline, two turbos, and it runs low 9's. So if you even get 7500RPM and have a broad powerband you could have a...
  4. Maximum offset for wheel bearings in daily driver???

I would say that he's having issues clearing because he's running a 10.5 inch wheel. a factory wheel is what 16x6 with a 46mm offset right? somebody correct me if im wrong please because i dont want to give false info. a 10.5 wheel with an offset of 10mm has 21mm less clearance than factory and...
  5. Help me plan, road course 92 awd

for 2g's you can get some nice pieces. I have found evo brembo calipers on ebay for as low as $500, those would do you some good but i cant recall if they been put on a 1g. rear control arms definitely will help you out. do you have a welder? stitch weld the chassis and subframes if you do. To...
  6. Help me plan, road course 92 awd

what are rule regulations? For 2K you could find some double adjustable variant 3 evo coilovers and slap them on your 1g, suspension wont get any better than that, except maybe for a 5K set of ohlins. Theres lots you can do, correct roll center, camber plates up front, bushings, sway bars, lsd...
  7. Accusump - Oil issues at High G Forces solution

Andrew, I know the magnus set-up brand new is very expensive, the base kit is not that badly priced at $1800. this gives us the chance to build it over time. would you suggest that people use a four stage or 5-stage pump? there are many vendors now for dry sump components, I mean the twins turbo...
  8. Road Race Ducting Brainstorm

thanks for the reply, i got what you're saying and it makes sense. I have a question, on a track car, is going with a half size radiator like the civic radiators a bad idea? Im talking about a road race/time attack. I know the engine can get heated when racing at long periods of time, but i was...
  9. Road Race Ducting Brainstorm

This is one awesome thread. why not turn your spare wheel well into a housing for a rear mounted radiator? Use the factory pump to get water back there and a remote mounted pump to get it back up to the front of the car. If the piping or hoses are external this will aid in cooling as well. There...
  10. suspension pickup points

Been doing a lot of reading and browsing the forums. There are numerous discussion on roll center, camber, caster, toe, scrub radius. I want to talk about pickup points and how and why they would affect being moved. Obviously Robispec built a subframe mod that raises the inboard pickup to...
  11. 2g Camber kits?

I have heard ingalls works the best, but thats all hearsay. cinder, your great with suspension and have answered many of my questions, but isnt a 2g awd thats lowered going to need a front camber kit or will it need more toe adjustment out back if the back is lowered as well?
  12. Tubed front end and ffm

A friend and i are looking to tube his 91 talon. what size tubing did you use for your main frame rails that the engine is mounted to?
  13. Supplies needed for first fiberglass project?

I have always been interested in doing a little fiberglass work, what are you all using for making molds? I had to sell my 2G shell i bought but picking one up in the spring to build up. I already have a spare dash and thinking since this will be a road race car a light dash might be nice, amybe...
  14. How much can a AWD rear diff Handle?

What he said, but a corvette pumpkin is part of a transaxle, unless you go back into the older models. can i ask why you want to go rwd, independent suspension and keep a street car? I think it would be sick, maybe see an eclipse do some drifting. If you do have the money to go rwd, then spend...
  15. Tubed front end and ffm

Thats just pure sickness! I take it you left part of the upper radiator support so you could clear the headlight brackets?
  16. WTB:Front passanger side spindle for 1G AWD.

Man theres an awd a buddy has. i can get you a spinlde for $60 off him, that includes me flat rating it to phoenix. im up in prescott. I dont want to charge that but he's a stubborn a-hole and wont budge, not even for me. I even tried bribing him with a case of beer to sell me his rear 2g awd...
  17. Tubular rear subframe - Input needed

So how goes the testing on this and when can we expect a price and possibly a delivery?
  18. Custom bracket to raise the rear upper control arm

@ Paul, can you pm with some of the materials you would need to build an upper arm? I got a friend who's a fabricator and might be able to help out with some materials. for how much you're doing for all of us dsm guys, id be willing to chip in for r&d.
  19. Custom bracket to raise the rear upper control arm

i guess i should've been more clear, i was going from stock height perspective. I definitely agree with what you guys are saying about a lowered vehicle. anybody seen the Nagisa arms for an RX7 FD3S? They don't adjust at the ball joint, but at the mounting on the body. They can go like +-10...
  20. Custom bracket to raise the rear upper control arm

I love the bracket idea! Having to move it out just over one-half inch will definitely cause some positive camber. Adjustable arms will be needed. My thought which might be dumb is this, If you are moving the arm up one inch, wouldn't it technically pull the knuckle in giving more negative...
  21. I have 5 pieces of DOM tubing. What do I make?

    :applause::applause::applause: im with him.
  22. Tubular rear subframe - Input needed

I like this idea. what about tubbing the front, and since you would have to have something support the strut, why not build a diamond brace from firewall to towers and towers to the front of the car, and then down to the frame? 240 guys do this, i would know, i used to be one.. ;) ohhh and id...
  23. Tubular rear subframe - Input needed

Does this mean you are the one testing it? I put my project on hold because i picked up an sc300 for cheap, now i'm leaning back into building the eclipse up. If this sub-frame holds up it will be a key component to my build, as im trying to build a time attack car.@ Paul, does this have...
  24. 1g road course suspension, *needed* 1g stock strut dimensions

@ drivemusicnow: You will love 8611 Konis. I had them in the old 240SX and even though the technology in these are old, really really old, they have been proven themselves well. What aspects do you want to correct the geometry of the suspension? I wouldnt use taller ball joints if you will be...
  25. Magnus billet knuckles

i was told by one guy at magnus that you need to build arms, but it wouldn't require a tube frame, maybe a custom sub-frame? these are cheaper than what my fabricator can cnc a knuckle set for me for, but, these look like they will be way more of a hassle. My fabricator cnc's billet knuckles for...
  26. Magnus billet knuckles

I didnt really know where to post this, but since it says directly on Magnus' website arms must be fabricated i figured it would go good here. I started a thread a couple months ago in the roadcourse forum about a true race suspension. I talked to magnus today and they did state that arms had to...
  27. bearing are shot after 50 miles...

yes you timed it properly. some vehicles oil pumps must be timed or they wont produce oil pressure. The reason i asked if you put all the rods back from the cylinder they came from does matter. Journals on the crank wear in a pattern with the rods. Sure bearings get replaced, but the wear and...
  28. bearing are shot after 50 miles...

thats some nasty wear man! I'd be up on that machine shop if you payed them to hot tank and brush the block clean. On the note of being why everything failed I have a few questions. Did you feeler gauge the pump or visually inspect it? Second did you replace the oil cooler or just try to clean...
  29. need advice

I considered this as well, but I need low end torque and a broad power band. 2.3 liters is going to help spool up the GT3076 turbo at a lower rpm. These turbos make good power, on an RB powered 240SX here in phoenix we saw 415WHP at 4000 RPM on 18 PSI. Forced Performance website on a customer...
  30. need advice

I picked up a 4G64 6-bolt crank from a 1995 galant. the same yard has a 6-bolt 2.0 that was missing crank, but had the rods and pistons. Im wanting to build a street class time attack car. I was told i could use the 6-bolt rods and just get some wiseco pistons. question is if i do this, how long...
  31. Tubular rear subframe - Input needed

    This:= :hellyeah: this
  32. Tubular rear subframe - Input needed

haha thanks man. i drove all through california all night so when i saw these pictures they made sense but dint make sense
  33. Tubular rear subframe - Input needed

Paul that is looking sick. Did you happen to find a way to get adjustable pickup points for the rear?
  34. What is the best exhaust Manifold for a T3

Any tubular manifold, megan, punishment, jm fabrications, full race. They all sell the goldish manifold you are looking for. The manifold turns gold because of the heat cycle it goes through. These manifolds are made of stainless or mild steel. When they get hot, over time they will turn gold.
  35. The PTE 6262 Turbo Thread

I donkt know about you, but if my turbo was only spinning 10K rpm then id be a little upset, at least because turbos can spin up to 100K RPM ;) . Im just messing with you but Im new to all the lingo of lols fmls and lmao so could you explain to me what the OFH is?
  36. whats needed for ultimate handling?

Just got good news from my fabricator. He recommended an off-road shop that will modify the knuckle to raise the points. can anybody give me an idea of where they want the knuckle to be raised? I'm going to pick up a spare knuckle from the salvage yard and ship it to him to see whether or not it...
  37. whats needed for ultimate handling?

@ cinder: I'm still gathering info as to how much we will be moving arms in total when we build a sub-frame. My fabricator thinks he can get away with building a set of arms that will give about 4 degrees of positive or negative camber. i also have no problem cutting a hole through my floor for...
  38. whats needed for ultimate handling?

Thanks for the input! I see how running out of travel can become a problem. Now a question for all. I hear talk of ball joint replacement being common. Some people use the stock ones and others i've hear use the 3g ball joints. Which will benefit the most for a road race suspension?
  39. whats needed for ultimate handling?

Drew, you inspired me to post this thread so i got a couple questions for you. Im not going to be building this car to certain rules and regulations, i just want to see what i can build. i want to experiment. theres talk of the geometry being fixed by a custom knuckle and a custom subframe but...
  40. whats needed for ultimate handling?

@ cinder. Drift guys sink the subframe to avoid steering lock. They lower too much and then sink the subframe to correct geometry and maintain angle. Without having the steering rack lock. Now i got a question for you. I didnt get my chassis yet so i cant look at it, but which arm has to go...
  41. whats needed for ultimate handling?

ok so i been thinking about something. why not do what a couple 240 drift guys do. instead of trying to build a frame and arms only to have more stuff go wrong, why not raise everything up and have the body sit lower? they cut the chassis out, weld a new plate and sleeve and it raises the...
  42. whats needed for ultimate handling?

I bet a lot of people thought it was going to be a noob question, i stated it in a noob kind of way. We don't have a "true" double wishbone so its harder to control suspension flex and we must treat all areas of movement independently. As heavy as these cars are, the chassis still seems flimsy...
  43. whats needed for ultimate handling?

Wow thanks for the info. I do have a fabricator who's building me some a-arms. I forgot to mention the first mod I'm doing is stitch-welding the chassis. I'm also putting some bracing in the front of the wheels, having custom wheel tubs done on the front and then braced all the way across. My...
  44. whats needed for ultimate handling?

Finally I'M picking up my 2G shell tomorrow, and I am starting on the suspension right away. the most modified DSM I have seen for handling goes to Andrew Brilliant, and I am going to be building a time attack car, but AWD not FWD. So far I want all the bushings to be replaced with poly...
  45. Tubular rear subframe - Input needed

I am no engineer, but I had a few questions and possible points about moving the pickups and the purpose of them. Geometry in the suspension was designed by an engineer perfecting the geometry for handling, comfort and ride height. When we "lower" our cars, we are changing the geometry in all of...
  46. Crazy find for stroker crank, $27

I'm waiting on my 7-bolt 4G63T to get here which i got for a steal ($300).At the Salvage Yard yesterday I found a Spyder with a 4G64. I have been wanting to build a stroker engine. So today I'm heading off to pick up my 7-bolt crankshaft for a mere $27! I already pulled it out, and its in...
  47. Time Attack Build , what your choice

Time attack you will need both torque and some top end power, which is contradicting itself. I have seen 2.3 strokers rev to 8300, which is fine for time attack. never seen a 2.4 run yet. Im building a time attack car as well, im using a 4G64/4G63T hybrid and hoping it will do what I need. a...
  48. 7 bolt 2.4l blocks

I almost bought a 4G64 SOHC out of a 1997 Eclipse Spyder today, and after reading this thread im a little confused. Is this a block I can use to build a 4G64/4G63T hybrid? They have a 6-bolt turbo engine there as well and its cheaper to buy the 4G64 short block and then the top end for a 4G63T...
  49. 17x9 35+ offset Good Choice! 2g!

Im a noob when it comes to 2G cars and I think this is the most helpful thread I've found about tire/wheel fitment. I dont know what the differences are for a 2GA and a 2GB. Mentioned earlier were knuckles, and swapping on 2GB knuckles. anybody care to explain how this affects wheel/tire...
  50. Need of help-fast with suspension/chassis questions

I like your ideas, but i may have just found my chassis. engine build is coming in the summer
