    2G 2G rear spindle problems

I have a 2G dsm and I snapped part of my spindle. I am trying to put the new one on but can't remove the nut off the ball joint as the stud just spins in situe - any help would be great!! This is really annoying me so much I need a car.

    Resolved 1990 vs 1991-1993 Wiring

I have a question - what is the cut off between the '1990' and '1991-1993' engine harnesses that go into the ECU? There are 2 pins switched - do the earlier pop-up headlight cars have the '1990' and the 1GB style have the '91-93'? Thanks in advance I really appreciate it - I've got 2 ECU's one...

General 1G REALLY high startup idle.

Thanks, I had the throttle body apart to clean and also swapped over to a non-cruise throttle cable. I have heard the the coolant sensor in the t-stat housing can cause some issues like this? Appreciate the help from a fellow Michigander.

General 1G REALLY high startup idle.

I appreciate the point, but I'm not about to let my build warm up at 4000+ RPM any time soon at all.

General 1G REALLY high startup idle.

When I start my 1g it goes straight up to 3500-4000 RPMs and acts really stupid. Took the ISC apart and manually adjusted to all the way closed - the car still does it regardless. Adjusted the BISS, still the same - also I did a boost leak test and there is a small one at the throttle body but...

    1G Fuel Pump / MPI

Sorry I mean't on not in the accessory position. When I crank I get fuel but then when I stop the starter the fuel pressure dies - this leads me to believe it's a problem with my CAS? Thanks for the information.

    1G Fuel Pump / MPI

Should my fuel pump run when I turn my key to the accessory position? I am having a problem building fuel pressure in my DSM - somebody told me that it should be running in the acc. position - I can only hear it when I crank it and it's a wally so I definitely should be able to hear it when it...

    Head Machined Surface Cleaning?

Hi, what's the best way to clean a head and block to prep them for a new gasket?

    1G Numerous issues 1G.

Looks like the head studs weren't torqued properly - to me it seems like there was pressure flowing between cylinders and into the coolant passages?Sorry - try the hyperlink to the photos: John Wynne-Irvine's Photos | FacebookJohn Wynne-Irvine's Photos | Facebook

    1G Numerous issues 1G.

It's a cometic mls gasket - I'll post pictures, but it really looks as good as new. The whole build has only 5000 miles - the turbo more. The head studs were torqued to 70 ft/lbs - I was tired and just wanted get the damn head off, so I didn't check the torque before I took them off, I just took...

    1G Numerous issues 1G.

Okay, so I removed my head and my headgasket is fine... I was able to just take the studs right out with my fingers though... I know ARP say finger tight when putting them in, but this seemed strange - could this have been causing a 'hg leak' without it being a BHG? - they weren't re-torqued...

    1G Numerous issues 1G.

Yeah I am really willing to bet it is an HG now seeing as cooling system holds pressure, each piston holds 155 psi, and the block only has 5 k miles on it. Especially after 5150DSM's post which states about the blown coolant line to turbo which happened to me also - thanks for all the...

    1G Numerous issues 1G.

My 91 DSM has been giving me issues for a while now, they are as follows: 1 - sounds like it is missing slightly at idle as if there was an injector issue. 2 - when running, won't boost at all (it cuts out when you rev it to the point of boost) 3 - when running, heats up very quickly.What...

    1G problems

A while ago my 1g blew the coolant line to the turbo - since then it has been running shitty and playing up. The idle sounds like it is missing slightly, and now, the engine will heat up to 250 degrees within minutes of the eclipse warming up. Also, the coolant looks as if it is boiling. I am...

Car Overheated / Overheating / Overheats [MERGED]

When I turn my DSM on it overheats very quickly - within under a minute the temp gauge reads 250 degrees - it also cools down very quickly. What i'd like to know is what the differences between symptoms of head-gasket vs water pump faliure. There does not appear to be oil in the coolant. Also...

new slave cyl. no pressure help!!

You could have an internal leak in your master cylinder, this is what happened to me. Also, if you have an aftermarket clutch, and even sometimes with OEM clutches, the lines expand when the pedal is depressed causing the slave not to actuate properly. When you bleed your slave, be sure to have...

    Starting issues - No / Doesn't / Won't Start - MERGED

I have a 1991 TSI AWD. A while ago it got fairly hot (210) and the cooling line to the turbo broke and leaked out coolant. I pulled over and stopped pretty quickly after it happened, and parked it until I replaced the line and put in more coolant. After this, it stopped starting (although it...

    Starting issues - No / Doesn't / Won't Start - MERGED

The timing is good. There could be so many things causing it.. I have a wideband, however, I also have a crack in my exhaust manifold along a weld which (I assume) would show lean while conditions on the piston would not be lean? You were right about the coolant temp sensor - I replaced it and...

    Starting issues - No / Doesn't / Won't Start - MERGED

My 1g has been playing up (even more than usual). The other day it overheated (not by super amounts up to 210). Since then, it has been running extremely badly. It takes a lot of cranking to start, and when it does it runs extremely lean while driving and sputters like it isn't getting enough...

    Vi-pec ecu 1g

I have decided that at the end of the summer I am going to buy a VI-PEC V44 ecu for my 1g. I am just wondering who if anyone is running one of these in their DSM at the moment? Do you have any problems with the system? And how easy is it to wire in and use the auto-tune system (which I have...

RUNNING lean as hell, can't tune it out..

I checked my fuel pressure and everything checked out, so I decided to open up my ecu and there was a load of damage from leaking capacitors.. I cross-referenced the number on the ecu and it turns out it had a 90 ecu in a 91. I'm not sure if that makes any difference, but after changing the ecu...

RUNNING lean as hell, can't tune it out..

So recently my car began to run really horribly at the SAFC settings that I had tuned into it (660 CC injectors so I was at about -14 on my set up with a hacked MAF). My car started stalling horribly and wasn't running great, when I put my foot down the AFR would be high 12/13's so I turned the...

    Boost gauge install??

Hey thanks everyone for the suggestions.. I bought a STRI boost gauge with MAP and installed it with its own source at the T but I guess I got a dud sensor... so back to using the old analogue gauge in the mean time using its own vac source from the throttle body, which now works.. Guess I...

    Boost gauge install??

Hey thanks... Yeah I have already ziptied mine up already, and put it through a different higher hole in the firewall too. But what connection do you need to hook up the T to the really small nylon? All the T's i've seen have been huge and NAPA couldn't come up with anything connection wise that...

    Boost gauge install??

So I never installed the gauge on my car, and the muppet who had it before me didn't tie it up so eventually depressing the clutch pulled the nylon line out. My question is this: can I hook up the nylon line to the small piece of tubing under the fuel pressure solinoid? As in, push it in to that...

Turbocharging is about energy recovery... why not recover MORE?

This is the ideal gas law: PV = nRT where P is pressure and T is temperature. Therefore, pressure and temperature are directly related, however, heat causes expansion or pressure, therefore causing the turbo to spin. You can make a turbo spin at 10,000s of RPMS using a high powered compressor...

Rich to lean to rich between shifts and idle?

I know it is metered air that the BOV is letting out, this is why I am wondering whether or not this is what is causing the erratic revving + AFR changes between shifts and at idle every time besides at start up.

    1G 1G Cooling fan wiring

Okay well I was just figuring on hot days and when I know I am going to be gaining a lot of heat I would prefer to have it so I could control the 2nd fan via the AC switch. 1G 1G Cooling fan wiring

That's as simple as I hoped it'd be.. Thanks. So I assume when you wire them in like that they behave as the stock fans would? Need help tuning new SAFC2 and Aem Wideband

So with the wide band you want it (or I do) to idle at around 14.5 -- 16.0 on the wide band and around there also for highway cruzing. The karmen setting simply monitors the amount of air your engine is taking in through the MAF sensor. In order to set it you have to first set your throttle...
