Had this same issue in my old 420a and it was a vac leak.. fixed the leak and fixed the prob... bought a new gst.. and having the same issue on it.. checked the codes and says vac leak. So... sounds like you have a vac leak.

OK so i put on a aftermarket obx style intake.. i block off the egr valve at the head and where the tube gore to the valve. but now i have a CEL... i was reading about how i could trick the computer by either drilling a hole in the lower half of the valve? or by notching out a piece on my block...

it was the one off ebay and yeah it for the 420A....i tryed putting the whole rail in first and the injectors wouldnt go in all the way....so i took one injector off and tryed it but it will not slide all the was in! it still got about a inch to slide in...almost like the injectors holes arent...

I would say check all your vac lines...my old 95 was doing kinda the same,ended up being a vac line had come off and the motor was getting to much air! but could be in the fuel also!! but finding out the who;e CEL code would help alot

My 98 is doing the same thing in second gear....its a synchronizer! You have to get the tranny pulled and the synchronizer replaced....im about to do it to mine prob not gonna be fun...but good luck!
