I have installed mine in the 12 oclock position on my downpipe. You can see it in the engine bay behind the intake manifold if you look down behind the steering rack. I have had no problems whatsoever.

I have Magnecore wires the 8.5 i believe.

Yes your fwd will be faster. not having to pull the axles, drop the tcase and driveline. but with all your labeling you want done it will take a little while expecially with labeling little baggies of bolts. if you have a buddie help tell them to unplug the harness while you work on other things...
Try Boost leak testing it. All spark plug wires are snug and plugs are gapped corecty. Also is anything aftermarket on it? such as dsmlink or injectors? If your battery died you might have lost the tune on link if you have it.
Do you have all the emissions still hooked up? if you do might as well replace all the old hoses.
Did you use RTV Black on the intake manifold gasket? I do and it helps it seal better.Have you tried boost leak testing it again after you drove it? Spray soapy water everywhere and look for those...

I havent heard of shimming your lifters unless you are using a regrind. Like dks or delta cams... same thiing lol
With all the correct tools and NOTHING goes wrong expect 4 hours at the minimum.

I say do all the maintenance on the car ; belt replacements, oil, boost leak test, ect. Just make sure the car is up to par. But as far as upgrades there is an upgrade path here on tuners that you should take a look at.Tech Guide: 1G 4G63t Upgrades - DSMtuners
Mine is the glue in one but i did not glue it in. I did some quick dremel work on it ,clicks rights in. Ive never had a problem with mine falling out during WOT or any launching scenarios.

Mine are in the center vent, dual gauges and a vent in the middle. I got mine from Machv and its great quality. I have my mechanical boost gauge and my wideband in that location, Ive never had a problem with the gauges at all but i also rarely have my heater off the windshield defrost setting...
