Okay, here is the battery area. The battery is out to be recharged. So, in the first pic, positive cable on the left. Negative on the right. Negative cable one runs from battery to post on strut tower. Negative cable 2 runs from the battery terminal to the upper starter bolt as a ground(pic...
This is the only one I have on me right now. I can get a close up of something specific if you need it(which I imagine you might haha). Thanks for the reply!
So, got in the car today to take it for a drive. Dead. No lights, no nothing. Has a brand new Optima Red top and a brand new alternator. Jumped the car and it fires right up, but wont stay started. So I jump it again, leave it hooked to the running car for like 10min. I was able to drive...
Hey All!Finally got the Eclipse started after a full engine rebuilt. Has Wiseco 10.5 compression pistons. So, when I first got it fired up, I had a really rough idle. I tried to just keep it running to see if it would smooth out, and it didn't. I noticed that after running for a bit, the...
Alright, for future reference, if anyone ever needs it, the first pic is of the red trimmed plug goes to the EGR, 2nd plug isnt used, the 3rd pic is a vacuum line that bolts to the frame and routes up passed the cam gears(per a loaner car i looked at), and barza was spot on about the ground wire.
Ok ,cool. And i dont have a tech manual and the diagrams i could find online werent super helpful. If you are able to discover anything, that would be great!
Okay. I went back out and checked, and If I am looking at the right sensor on the trans, its towards the front. However, I already have one plugged in there. The unknown connector has 2, close together round pin holes, and the sensor on the trans has 2 farther apart flat pins. As for pic 4...
Hi!Just about about to wrap up an engine install but I cant for the life of me find where these lines/plugs go. Any help would be tremendously appreciated.
I have been searching for a couple days, and haven't been able to find the answer. I am putting the clutch/trans back on the motor and I have:A small ring for that matches the bolt pattern of the crank and ring gear. This ring has a lip...and based on that lip, if it sits on the crank, the...
Okay, So I have it set up exactly as you described. I dont have the cable hooked to the manifold yet, but to be clear the ball sits in the cup just fine, but the cup doesn't sit in the hole on the top of the pedal...at all. Your are saying that once I tighten the cable, that the cup will sit...
So,I have replaced the throttle cable on my 96 Gs. However, the end of the cable that connects to the gas pedal is giving me some trouble. There is the ball, a rubber bushing, and the green plastic piece that sits in the gas pedal. The problem is that I cant get the ball and the rubber part...
Okay, redid the gears using the double marks instead of the single marks. Now, the smaller of the 2 double marks line up PERFECT. The TDC marks also line up perfect at the same time. Kinda hard to see in the full shot, but everything seems to be great. The lines are also inbetween the teeth...
Yes, the cams were moved. The head was redone at a machine shop, so the whole thing was stripped and then put back together. The gears have been zero'd correctly as far as I can tell. They are at "0" on the adjustable scale. Not sure how to tell aside from that.
If you look at the pictures you provided, the timing marks are inbetween the teeth. The Fidanza gears have the marks on the teeth. Could that be the issue? I have been out working on this for 5hrs, and it is not possible to get the single marks to line up perfect and have the TDC marks on the...
Nevermind on the brackets. I think i got those figured out. They mount to the block and bolt to the trans, one on the intake side and one on the exhaust side if I am correct. Still curious about the timing if anyone can confirm its okay.
Good afternoon. Just trying to finish up my engine build, and its my first time doing timing. I have Fidanza adjustable gears, and they have 2 sets of timing marks. Per Fidanza, one set is for the Evo, and the other is for the 420a Eclipse. They couldnt give me a straight answer however as...
Sorry if I am posting this in the wrong spot. Did something happen to the 2gnt website? Seems to have been down for about a week. Just wondering if anyone else has had any issues getting on.
Perfect! The Super 16G is exactly what I was after. I will do some reading on it of course, but that should be perfect.Yea, I am absolutely doing forged pistons/rods. I had planned on ACL bearings, but am open to suggestions.Awesome. Is this stuff available at the local...
Hey Everyone,
Finally had time to pull my motor this week. Took about 2.5 hours, which I think is AWESOME for a first timer. Suprisingly straight forward. Anyway, I am trying to do my build right, and I want to take advantage of having the engine out to replace stuff that would normally be...
Not sure what you mean by a dynamic issue with the rings. And I can do a wet compression test, but I also am not sure what you mean by the "tearing into the valves" comment...
Leakdown was 4-6% across all cylinders. I had a shop do it to make sure that I didn't do it wrong and they said that the rings and head gasket were fine, but if there were valve stem seal problems, that that wouldn't show in the leakdown.So... Low compression, leakdown looks good. Has to be...
Ok, will do. Interestingly enough, I put on a pcv valve(not sure why one wasn't on there), and the check engine lights are off. Car didn't smoke on a quick drive. However, the car runs hot, now. Coolant level is good. Car doesn't overheat but the needle got to about 3/4 the way up(and stayed)...
Hi,
I have a 96 GS that I have been working on here and there for about a year. I finally got it running but it is exhibiting some white smoke from the exhaust on occasion. Sometimes it does it when I first accelerate, and sometimes when I decelerate, but never 100% of the time.I decided to...
Hahaha that's funny. :DSo I just need to replace the yellow ball? Or the whole throttle cable? And I would assume that cable is under tension...if I remove that washer and wire, is the throttle cable going to fly back through the firewall if I don't hold onto it?
My thought was that they are holding the throttle cable to the gas pedal because something broke on it. I cant tell because of the gigantic washer in the way haha.
Hey all.My project 96 continues. So, I was up under the dash removing some wiring and happened to notice this little beauty. Clearly I don't think the factory sent out their gas pedal assemblies with wire wrapped around the top of the gas pedal assembly, then looped through a large washer...
Hey all,I have been reading about nitrous applications and a lot of what I can find seems to be turbo related. I wonder if I can get some definitive clarification on some nitrous questions I have.First, The motor will be built(top end and bottom end)(this will stay a non turbo...
Its possible that this car was not maintained well...I just bought it on the cheap and it was clearly in need of many things. With the metal flakes in the oil and the white smoke coming out the exhaust (with a light oil burning smell), I am thinking the condition of the plugs would be an...
Hey,Tell me what you think of these spark plugs. Quite a bit of white smoke coming from exhaust. Once I drove it for about 10ish minutes, the smoke wasn't bad while driving, but would come back a little bit at a stop. I am planning to have the motor rebuilt regardless, but can someone...
Sounds good. Thanks for the insight. I am sure as I move through the build that i will have some questions. Part of the funds I will be using is to go to replace all the steering and suspension (ball joints, tie rods, shocks, etc). All the brake parts will be replaced too. I am a stickler on...
Already have something AWD haha. I spend a lot of time in my 4x4 Dakota as well, so I am not looking for an AWD turbo eclipse. This car will probably be down for over a year while I slowly build it myself. Even when its up and running again, it will only be driven probably 5 months out of the...
Hello everyone!Feels good to be back. Been a long 6yrs since I was actively on the site. Had been semi searching for an Eclipse/Talon on and off for a couple of years. Finally came across a deal I couldn't pass up.Picked up a 1996 Eclipse GS 5 Speed with 106,000 on the clock for...
I always appreciate a wisemans insightful and useful posts  . The truth is, is that your welcome to giggle at my expense all you want. All I know is, is that by changing my locked calipers I doubled the amout of distance I can go on a tank of gas. Crazy and far fetched according to...
Hear me out for a minute. While at first, the notion may seem absurd, think about it for a minute. If you drove around with you E-brake on all the time do you think in any slim chance that you would get fewer miles to the gallon as your car was constantly in brake mode while you were trying to...
Well changing the front calipers fixed the problem. I am wondering however, if a locked up brake could have affected my gas mileage. For the few tanks I had gone through since I owned the car I have gotten about 170 miles to a tank(I know thats aweful). However, now that I changed the...
