95% sure its the turbo. As said, the rebuild kit you got doesn't replace the parts that were damaged due to the severe shaft play. You are better off buying another 14b for $50 -100 than a rebuild kit. Don't drive it unless you have to, you don't want to mess up your fresh engine. Good Luck!

If you're not building the motor or trans just go with the hx35. There is no need for the extra lag if you aren't going to max out the hx40. Also, i'm pretty sure the auto transmissions can handle 500+ horsepower with just a shift kit and a better trans oil cooler.

Yes thats fine, you want to tap in to the closest point to your turbo. Lower Intercooler piping is sufficient. The ebay turbo on the other hand, may not be.

Ok everyone thanks for your help i found the leak (well my dad did haha). It turned out it was the underside of a coupler that i had to readjust and double clamp. Now i can build 11 psi, its not perfect but its much better than the 0 psi i started with.And in regards to the boost vs exhaust...

This is a boost leak, not an exhaust leak. It is more towards the intercooler, not the turbo area. The turbo compressor cover is NOT leaking.

Ok so i have spent all day yesterday and today doing boost leak tests. I have gone from being able to hold 0 psi to 4-6 psi. It seems i have a huge leak right around where my hard lower intercooler pipe meets the stock sidemount intercooler. I can hear it hissing out when i turn off the pump...

i would look at a 2001-03 jetta tdi (diesel) you can easily get over 50 mpg and the engines last 400,000 miles if maintained. Plus you can pick one up for 5-7 k.

There is no reason to paint a part twice. Tape off what you don't want a certain color and paint the rest. Than after that's perfect tape the painted part off and switch. The only reason i wouldn't tape off first would be if your using a primer (which i don't think applies to plastidip)
