Hey Guys,
I just swapped out an alternator on my 1990 tsi awd. Definitely not the first time i've done this ROFLAnyway, When I was done I noticed this little plug and I'm not sure where it went. It branches off of the main plug harness that goes to the alternator. I was thinking maybe...
There's a black 1Gb with a front mount and aftermarket wheels parked at my work (a big aerospace company in Marysville) all the time, usually parks next to my '90 (avatar pic) in the afternoon.Just wanted to see if you're on here!
Hey guys,
I just wanted to make sure I wasn't going to hurt my ECU by driving my car home (4 miles) on a bad injector. Car is running on three cylinders, and it threw a code 41. I checked the resistance of the injector and it is fully open (not shorted, infinite resistance). Will it be ok...
Hey guys,
I'm pretty sure one of my injectors died today. They are just the stock 450's. SOO I am looking for a set of stock or aftermarket injectors (or even just one 450 if you have it!!).The car was running perfectly fine an hour ago. I went to start it up and it was running a bit...
Saw a champaign (I think that's the color...) 1g today in marysville on 116th. I was in my black TSi. I know it's gotta be a guy on here because he waved!
I'm wondering the same thing.I think I have a seized up rear caliper. Luckily it's not seized in the "on" position, but I can see that the outside of the rotor has not had the pad grabbing it.Obviously it will be easier to find a 91 and up caliper if I need one.Anyone have any...
I was looking at these a while back, but I dont think these will fit in the aftermarket H4 housings for 1Ga's. Too deep... I still want to give it a try though.
I would also triple check your socket soldering joints, and also make sure the chip is making good contact with the socket.I have an ECU here that was socketed by a vendor that shall remain nameless, it ran perfect until I swapped the chip out, then it had some random issues with clicking and...
I installed my blockoff plate a few days ago.Got it on ebay for $5 SHIPPED.You can use ANY blockoff plate without using the EGR valve itself. You just need to get some shorter bolts, and a couple lock washers for good measure.I didn't experience any negative effects... no idle surge...
Exactly. I think the price difference MIGHT be $20... I'd just get the studs for peace of mind!I have studs on my daily driver @ 85ft/lbs and it's been running great since I installed the new head and gasket a few weeks ago.I guess there is just no down side to the studs that I can think...
The instructions didn't come with my ARP studs either.I ended up doing the torque in three steps: 30 - 60 - 85In the specified pattern, of course. It's been running just fine for three weeks now :hellyeah:
I noticed the same thing a week ago. No more 3950's. I just needed a cheap filter after my HG job to run some cheap oil through to get the last bit of water out.ALSO... the schucks/kragen/checker/o'reiley shop in my area doesn't carry the mobil 1 filter in 6-bolt size either. They only have...
Getting the tool will save you hours of time.I didn't have the correct type of torque wrench to set the tension, so I used the tool to tighten it until the tensioner had about .150" spacing between the body. Worked like a champ and I was completely done setting the timing belt in about a...
I have one final coolant leak that I'm trying to track down. It's a pretty slow drip. The weird part is that it is on the drivers side of the car.'it doesn't LOOK like it's coming from the water pump, but it could be.It is dripping off the alternator onto the oil filter housing and...
It was the headgasket. I changed it a few days ago and it's all fixed. One of the SUPER tiny coolant passages, on the front of the block between cylinder 2&3 was leaking. It was almost like the "filling" of the headgasket had worn away in that spot, so you could see the crosshatch of the base...
My ECU really did look awesome, best one I'd ever seen.I am fairly experienced with electronics, I checked the board over and over again and couldn't find the bad spot.I sent it to steve, he was able to track it down and got my car running again at a good price :hellyeah:
Hey guys,
I just spent the weekend replacing the head gasket on my talon after it developed a tiny leak. The day we tore the car down, it compression tested at 150 across the board, no more than ~2 psi difference between the cylinders. The top end was torn down, and re-assembled with...
Hey guys,
I just did a full head gasket and timing belt job this weekend. Started 10pm Saturday and fired her up at 6pm today (Sunday).Anyway, I put in a new head and bled all the lifters completely down.Needless to say, they are noisy. How long will it take for them to quiet...
Just thought I would let you guys know that I got the old head off and popped the new head on last night.Took about 8 hours, but we BS'd a lot and took many breaks to eat/smoke/drink beer. The most time consuming part was actually swapping the cams and all the lifters into the new head...
Saw a nice maroon 2g turbo with a front mount getting pulled by a big black truck via a tow strap on i5 south, they got off at 41st street in Everett. If you're on here, I feel for ya buddy!!! I just tore down my talon for a head gasket job today!
I'd put money on the ecu being the cause.Obviously it isn't the alternator. You can unplug the alt completely and the car will still run until the battery dies. When it dies, do you hear a clicking sound behind the radio?
That's what I was hoping. It turns out my GSX is on hold for a couple more months because I just found out that my freakin' head gasket on my talon is leaking.SOOO all the parts I had ready for the GSX are now going on my TSI.The catcher is that I HAVE to have this thing back on the...
Im pretty sure polarity does matter. Try swapping them and see if it runs better. If the ecu gets no signal or a bad signal, it will think the engine is super cold and will dump fuel like crazy. My car would start but would fall on it's face if I hit the throttle. Most of the time they...
Hey guys,
I found out yesterday that my headgasket is probably leaking. I am getting coolant in my oil very slowly and I can see coolant in the #3 cylinder. The weird part is that the compression is still perfect. 155 all the way across. The bottom line is that this is my daily...
Coolant use isn't excessive, maybe 1/4 gallon every month, but there is definitely coolant in the oil and coolant in the #3 cylinder.... I just don't know how it's getting there.
Hey Guys,
I've been trying to track down the reason I am burning a tiny bit of coolant. Here's where I was at so far:Compression: Just under 155 all the way accrossCar was running great, never over-heated, didn't push coolant, coolant never bubbled. No smoke out the exhaust...
Make sure it is the sensor for the ECU and not the gauge. I'm pretty sure they are all two wire. For a 2g, I'm pretty sure it should look like this:The sender for the gauge, which is the one you DONT want (unless your gauge doesn't work), looks like this:
Lookin good!!Hey how much of a pain was it to get the head off? Did you leave the intake/exhaust manifolds attached or did you pull them before you pulled the head?I'm asking because I'm pulling the head (and replacing it) and doing a timing job on my GSX this weekend. It's the first...
I had a front end vibration that would ONLY rear its head while accelerating. It turned out to be the tread in one small spot on my tire separating. Cruising was perfect, but as soon as I would accelerate the separated portion would "cup", effectively causing a lump on the tire. This was...
Sweet!!Like I said, I dont care if they are 'real' OEM or even if they are 'perfect', I just need "good enough" :DIt seems I also saw some on ebay a while ago but I cant find them again.
Nope :sosad:I've looked the whole thing over pretty well. One last thing that I'm thinking is that it could also be the FIAV leaking into the throttle body and then the intake manifold.I'm not sure how often this sort of failure would happen, but it is a 90 with 203k on the clock...I...
At least a year or so.I've burped the system many times, everything seems good to go.If there was air, it wouldn't explain the coolant burning, and the engine temps would be weird.
Hey Guys,
Let me start off by saying that I know the first 10 replies are going to be people saying "It's your headgasket". Let me assure you that I've done every test imaginable and none point to the head.Compression tested 150 across the board, no more than 1-2psi variance between all...
The temp sender for the ECU and the temp sender for the gauge are two different sensors. You want the one for the ECU. It should have two pins in a sideways T shape. At least that's how it is on a 1g, I'm pretty sure it's like that on a 2g as well. It is screwed into the lower part of the...
1990 Talon TSI AWD, paid $1600The car had 190k on the clock, it needed a new alternator and some general love / cleaning.Had a freshly rebuilt head and timing belt job, and I compression tested it before I bought it, 150 across the board.6 years later the car has served me very well. I...
Back to the topic at hand:I've been contemplating giving the ebay manifold a shot.Hell, I can buy three of them and when they crack just swap it out ROFLROFLI know that all the ebay manifolds have the reputation of cracking, but I've seen a few new ones recently that dont look too...
