Double check the radio's ground. I have re-grounded mine, I ran it to bare metal just inside the center console. It no longer attaches to the ground in the Harness. It solved VERY similar problems. I won't say same because it fixed my issue but YMMV.

With some of the components you say you already have to go on, you are going to need to do your timing belt anyway. I would just do it all at once, All the maintainence (timing belt, water pump, Alt., master and slave cylinders, Pullies, and change over to the 16g, add fuel mods, and go fresh!)
