Balance shafts being removed has never been considered a modified block. Going back to 2008 when I first started to try and chase the record. As Kevin mentioned, they are a liability. No one back then had them.
I have to give this some thought. In my case, other then balance shaft removal, my block was untouched. In fact, it's still in the garage, intact, retired on a engine stand just the way it came from Mitsubishi. On one hand, I get the you can't find OEM untouched blocks anymore. But I do not...
Sorry I am not on here often. This is the one you want:http://www.cncbrakes.com/hsb.asp?grp=hsb&subgrp=all&series=412&subseries=The car ended up going 9.88@142 at the end of last season. The brake is awesome.
No problem. I found it doesn't need to be slipped much at all. If you slip it too much it will bog. Is that what it is doing? It looks like you have a 2g, did you remove the restrictor? This clutch is very capable! Mine has five seasons of racing on it and still working great.
What issues were you having? I never had a problem getting good launch's with the ACT. I installed this because I want even better 60's.9800 Rpm on the 1-2 shift. Rev limit it set to 10,000.Pre-loading it with the brake will help.
The brake has a vertical handle, if you did this it would be too far back to be comfortable to use. I mounted the brake in what I felt was the best location. You want a close and easy transition when you release it to grab the shifter. I also refused to give up my e-brake! I still drive it on...
I bought this set up over a year ago! So I can relate. :) But if you are a frequent drag racer then this is worth the effort. It really isn't that difficult to install.
I have several 1.4 60' times without the brake. But first night out with it and ran a 1.42 60' which was a new best. I am looking for high 1.3's next time out ( next week ).
I tried the e-brake. It sucks in my opinion. The transition is far from optimal. The staging brake is 100 times easier to use and is an actual hydraulic brake. The e-brake is just not strong enough to hold. Maybe for a 400-500 HP car, but once over that it won't work.I have mine set to lock...
Yes it will harder on the clutch. The big gain is how much harder the car comes out. First night using it I ran a new best 60'. I think the car will go 1.3x. I have a twin disc so this clutch will obviously take more abuse then a single. In fact, this is season 5 on it. So it has already...
I guess you can say that. I still use the 2-step as well. But yes the brake as I mentioned allows for more boost due to the additional load.I grab the brake and roll into the pre-stage beam, start to bring up the Rpm's, and let the clutch out a bit. Bump into the stage beam and go WOT. Pull...
I don't think anyone sells a kit ready to go. There is a good write up by someone on the Buschur forum that has everything needed to buy and how to install. I bought this off my buddy Nick Stack so most of what I needed was included.
Yes, that is exactly what it is.ACT twin disc ( about 5 seasons old now ).Yes, it is a hydraulic brake. Where it helps us is it allows us AWD guys to preload the driveline. Which takes some of the shock off it. It also allows us to create load, which will allow the car to make more boost...
Took my Talon back to the track a couple of weeks ago. I just finished installing a staging brake ( thanks again Nick )!
WOW, that thing is awesome!! My first time ever using it, and I was able to do a new best 60' of 1.42. The brake allows me to pre-load the driveline, and I leave with a lot...
Is it the passenger window? If so, which switch did you replace? My Talon had the same issue with the passenger window. It would go down only. It was the driver's door switch that I replaced and that fixed it.
Congratulations on the win! I was qualified but could not make the call for eliminations, my alternator relocation bracket cracked in half on my last qualifying pass.
This. There has to be an issue/problem with your clutch set up somewhere. I did not see you mention the clutch master ( I may have missed it )? A new OEM master would be on my list if not already replaced. I still don't like the shimmed pivit ball. Here you go, 9 second pass, Stage IV trans...
Less then one month away! Are you ready? This should have a great turnout. We already have a few 6 second cars lined up. Even if you are not racing, come out for this event!
I picked up a set of Rota Grid Offroads, 16x8 with a 10mm offset. I ran them a bit last year with the Hoosiers and I had spacers on the front wheels. They seemed to fit fine. I did not have spacers on the back and once removed from the car I can see where they rubbed the drums slightly. I just...
I will clarify the rule in True / Super Street to allow air-to-liquid intercoolers.I would have liked to have more class's but the track wanted to limit it being the first event. If it is a successful turnout this year, next year we could expand the class's. I can't imagine many low 10...
Nate I have the class rules but am waiting on the head of tech at NED to approve them. This should be done by tomorrow. I can tell you they are very similar to MIR's event.
Actually I did back it up. And I believe Fernando did as well. Note that all official NHRA records require a "back-up" (speed and elapsed time within 1% of the record) run to verify the newer, higher level of performance. So my 10.02 backs up a 9.98. I don't why we are still talking about this...
I am very excited and proud to announce that after a lot of behind the scenes work with myself and Joe Lombardo another racing date for us on the 2012 schedule! The Inaugural Liberty Engines Import vs Domestic Shootout presented by RAD Machine. June 23, 2012 at New England Dragway!More...
Congratulations Fernando!! Hard work does payoff. I had a feeling when we spoke last week you would do it and you did. I can certainly relate to how great it feels to not only run your first 9 second pass, but to also break the record. It is now yours my friend! Job well done. :thumb:Maybe I...
Guys I do not believe I hold the record anymore. There was recently a car in Florida that went 9.8x. I do not have any info on the car other then it was supposed to be on a stock block. I will hold my head up knowing I was the first to ever get into the 9's. :D
My block:Stock orignal hardware
Stock original rods/ pistons
Stock original bearings
Stock original crank
ARP Head studsIt has never been apart other then to eliminate the balance shafts years ago. Other then that it is exactly how it came from Mitsu 20 years ago. I estimate over 600...
Not a chance!! Back then 20 psi on stock internals were considered " pushing it ". :D My first ever trip to the drag strip resulted in a best of 13.9 and I was thrilled!
I was there for that and was one of many cheering!! We knew once we saw the burnout the car would make a good pass ( and it did ). :)Great thread Phil!
Congratulations! Great start to the season. Why is the nose of the car bouncing around so much? That has to be killing the 60' and scrubbing off some E.T.. It almost looks like severe wheel hop? Was it spinning badly?
Not exactly sure of your question. I am running a 67mm turbo currently. The car hasn't been on a dyno with the current set-up, but taking into consideration the weight and trap speed, I am fairly confident it is making 600+ WHP ( last time on a dyno it made 596 WHP, trapping mid 130's ). Torque...
I did not realize there was a thread here already. :) I started my own. ;)http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/drag-strip/383090-9s-finally-stock-shortblock-internals.htmlNo, only time the oil pan has ever been off was about 10 years ago to pull the balance shafts. The pistons, rods...
This has been a goal of mine for over three seasons, so I am thrilled I finally did it. This stock block simply amazes me, the abuse it has seen! :)I did not think it would happen today, the outside temp was around 40 degrees, no sun and no heat on the track. Great air for power but not for...
