I would agree with 4g63tc. I would like to add I have installed three ebay units. They are hard to beat because they are all 304 stainless construction and have held up well in the New England winter and salt. Some of the SS down pipes on ebay are cat delete so that would solve that problem. If...
Looks great!I always wondered about the clearance issues w/a 4g63 manifold. I've matched my sons tubular manifold up to my 420a's. The spacing was really close but the primary tube diameter was larger on the 4g. I thought if you cut the flange off the 4g's tubular manifold and left 3/8-1/2...
My axles were rusted solid in the knuckles. I removed the axles and knuckles as one piece to took them to a shop with a press and had them pressed out for $15 ea.
I feel your pain I'm goin thru the same thing myself. Mine isn't as bad as yours but the incurance totaled it. I used a floor jack with wood blocks and a pry bar to get things back into shape. The worst is needing a new core support. I checked on Car-Part.com--Used Auto Parts Market the local...
I was reading a thread here a while ago and someone here had good success with this product. I copied the link for future use. It's relatively inexpensive.Caswell Inc. - Black Oxide Kit
My son used POR15 on his GST core support with mixed results. It seems like it wants to flake off after a while. It does not penetrate it just overcoats rust. The Eastwood product on the other hand looks promising. You could even squirt it inside the rockers. Has any one used it?
A word of caution on the zinc primers when used as a weld thru primer. The fumes/smoke from welding are very toxic and the zinc can affect weld quality. I used it on the backside of my sons front strut tower before welding because it would be inaccessable after it was welded. I posted my weld...
Looks good. Your welds look decent too. I have the same welding cart and helmet. A little thing I was told is to blink when you strike an ark on auto darkening helmets to aviod arc flash.
I found these on partstaxi.com Parts Taxi - GM Parts and GM Accessories $97.21 ea. they are for the 6.2l motor. Does any one have any knowledge of these? They also have CTS-V Brembos for $153.88 ea.
First sorry to hear about your tranny. Second depends on how able you are to do your own labor. A tranny can cost between $125 at a pull apart to $350 and up at a regular yard all depends what kind of deal you can work. Installation labor at a shop could run $300 or so. Do a lot of calling...
I have had my share of repairs on my vehicle too. Look at it this way, these vehicles are not getting any younger mine is 14 years old has had 4-5 owners all hammering the snot out of it. Poor maintenance neglect or lack of mechanical ability also take their toll on them. Let's face it poor...
There were several issues going on with the vehicle but all the noise was coming from the rear trans bolts stripping out. The engine was easy to rock back and forth. That was my first clue also all that noise was was only in forward motion not in reverse. The solution was a 10+ on the PITA...
My 96 n/t is diong the same thing it's been doing it for 3 years. It had a brand new engine. Now it's throwing p0171 code and is knocking severely. I've checked sensors replaced the o2 sensor and fuel filter. There is also a high pitched continuos noise coming fron the ecu when the key is on and...
OK just my 2 cents. I personally know 2DSM's a 96 gsx and a 96 n/t with no cats and rear o2 sensor in the regular position and no cel light. Try it first before you spend $. If it works all the better. If not nothing lost.
As far as the fluid goes that was 3000 miles ago. There were tiny metal flecks when I changed the tranny fluid. It shifts fine through all the gears. The last time I drove the car it was making a sound like there was a flat spot on the tire. I didn't go far and came right back home when I...
My son now has my car and the transmission is making noise. He says there is a noise only in first and second gear the rest are fine. When I drive the car and start off lightly it is quiet but any harder launches sound like something is chattering? or rocks getting ground up? I've only tested...
Here is a swap chart. I have one on my computer that shows 2005 info but can'tfigure how to post. 2GNT.com - NV-T350 There is a lot of info on here for nt stuff.
I really like it, my concern would be if you are building an engine outside with the possibility of dust and dirt being blown on to the inside of the engine spoiling or destroying all your hard work and money.
I like a 97-99 front with a lip and 95-96 rear. I also like a blitz body kit. On dsmwolrd.net (Germany) they seem partial to the blitz also. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. :D
Mine is a PowerMaster 205 AC/DC Tig, Inverter, Stick, Pulse and plasma cutter. Wow that's a lot all in one machine! Great customer service. Can't beat the price either. And I love it. PS they are willing to deal on price also. Ask for Alex. Plasma Cutters, Welders, Arc Tig Mig Welding...
Feels fine. When I bought my car it had the same thing done only they just hacked the threaded end off and held the shift knob on with set screws. I did not know till the shifter knob loosened up what they had done. I wanted to do a better job and had to have a project to do with my new welder! LOL
Hi all I was wondering if there are other knuckle options available for our 2g's? My goals would be to do away with the 2 lower ball joint assy that seems to cause a lot of headaches for us maybe better geometry and easier to do a brembo type of swap. I would like to have a less expensive and...
Here in New England they are using a "liquid salt" it's not sodium chloride but some other type of chloride that when it contacts metal is even more corrosive! I love winter...not!
Warning weld thru primer contains zinc which is toxic. If you use it wear a respirator or avoid the smoke it makes.:barf:While you are undercoating the area you just repaired undercoat the other side if you haven't already done so. Just wire brush/clean the area first.
I have always liked a road race minded vehicle with tube frame and wide tires on all four corners. This build has peaked my interests. Where could you find frame /chassis plans to accomplish this for an AWD DSM? Something that would address the suspension shear issues or any other design issues...
I read the link in your post and was wondering if you take the garden hose analogy and restrict the exit flow you increase velocity. That said I had seen on ebay an attachment to quiet exhaust noise. It is spring loaded and the more exhaust pressure the more it opens up. 4" TIP MUFFLER AUTO...
I found it a little easier making sure the cam gears were correct by putting a ruler across the cam bolts and timing marks. My son and I tried several times to set the timing and we couldn't seem to get it until we used a straight edge. Here are some pics from a previous post...
So after reading your link seems like the Amsoil SMTX is the way to go. Where can you buy it? How do you find a local sales rep? Do you think if you added some to the factory fluid it would cause a problem?
Are you going to bond them directly to the side skirts or just bolt them on?I personally like the bolt on look like the ones in your EVO pic.I was thinking if you were to go the bolt on route, you could use the bottom side skirt bolts to attach it. I would use large fender washers to...
I like the idea. I've discussed it with my son. I think 95-96 sideskirts would probably be better suited for the look. I first had seen them on a GTM supercar. They are supposed to keep airflow from going under the car. They would look grear with a front lip / splitter. Maybe a rear bumper...
+1 on the welds. But if it flows better than stock and provides power gains I would go with it. It is a low stress application so safety is not an issue and the price is right.
I would go the bracket route too. It's a safer alternative to cutting and welding your knuckles. Welding cast/nodular iron or some unknown alloy is best left to someone w/experience. You could save one of our lives! :D Besides brackets are reversible if you change your mind.
If the axle is cleanly snapped off with no cv joint left you're in for a ride. The only thing I could think of is to drill and tap for the largest bolt you can. Then attach a slide hammer to get the stub out. There is a snap ring on the axle so you can't just pry it out without a place to pry...
I know the welds don't look pretty. It was the first thing I welded with my new TIG (last time I TIGed was 23 years ago). I welded on the ground right where I took the pic. I wasn't able to use the foot pedal just the finger control on the torch.
This same one is on the Boston MA one. I keeps reappearing. Craigslist is full of scammers. You think craigslist would stop these crooks from posting. It just shows they are well organized and national. Keep flagging bogus ads w/o mercy!
If you do the prep work maybe you could have a friend do it.I got the idea from my car but it was a hack job from a previous owner. They just chopped the shifter tube short and drilled out the shifter knob. It's only held on with set screws and loosens up. Mine works fine though it's...
