Thanks.Unfortunately this is not anything I can tackle myself (pathetic but true). Not only do I not have tools or expertise, but I don't even have a garage to use to work on the car if I did. I'd have to work in the street or a parking lot. And for health reasons I'm not up to crawling all...
Sorry about going off topic, I did start a thread on the exhaust issue either yesterday or day before. No responses there yet.Back on topic about the door sensor, I just fixed it (thanks to all the advice up here)!Got the impact driver in the mail yesterday, and it did the trick! Was able...
Yeah, I guess this was inevitable. Our cars are crossing into "vintage territory" and I guess not enough demand for continued parts to be made, old stock now being depleted etc.Huge bummer for me as I may not be able to get my latest exhaust problem fixed and have to junk the car, but on the...
My '99 GSX is dying a slow and painful death. Made more difficult since I am not a mechanic...The latest (most serious) problem is exhaust leak(s). Just today started sounding loud as hell. Took it to local garage just down the street that I use for minor things...they are saying some part...
I just want to correct myself on this in case someone reads this thread - JNZ is still around. I am having problems with my exhaust now and local shop thus far has been unable to get/find replacement parts. Out of desperation I called JNZ - to my amazement Josh answered the phone. Sounds like...
Thanks again for that link & the part #. Ended up buying the part from an OEM seller on ebay for a couple bucks cheaper.I've given up on JNZ, they still haven't replied to any emails or voicemails I've sent/left in the past 2 weeks (or from last December either btw). Hope they are not out...
Just wondering - is JNZ still operating? In the past they did a lot of good work on my car, plus I have bought various parts from them, but last December when I called/emailed them several times they never got back to me (so I gave up). I tried them again this past Monday in relation to this...
Ughhh, any suggestions for how to "unfreeze" the screw that holds this thing in? Mine is totally locked, cannot move it at all despite trying multiple philips screwdrivers with slightly different heads and blasting it with WD40 as best I can.If I cut off all the rubber shroud piece, might...
The door sensor thing on my driver side door is broken. The car thinks that the door is always closed (dome light does not come on if door is opened, bell reminder if I leave headlights on doesn't ring when I open the door etc etc etc). How difficult is it to replace this/how do I do it? Any...
Thanks, I am going to try futzing with it over the weekend or next week, depending on the weather. Also I have to get a 12V battery to do a direct horn test. I have a 12V emergency starter thing (a "powerall") but I'm afraid it might be too high amperage-wise, don't want to fry anything (or...
Thanks! I had no idea there were 2 different horns. Weird that both stopped working....all I care about is the "steering wheel" horn though. If I can find the theft horn I'd actually like to remove it/cut the wires to prevent it ever coming on again (even though right now it seems to no...
Thanks - The horn buttons don't work anymore. That is all I care about. I don't use the factory alarm at all (I have an aftermarket one). The horn buttons stopped working when I disabled the factory alarm by taking the alarm fuse out (I wasn't expecting that to kill the horn buttons too but...
My '99 GSX is having a strange horn problem (not working at all).I think it is because I pulled the "factory alarm" fuse out but I have put it back and it still doesn't work. I had a problem with the door buttons on passenger side falling into the door which caused the damn factory alarm to...
Got this done today. Thanks for the tips.If you know what you're doing it probably takes like 15-20 minutes. Me, it took 4 hours. You do have to take the door panel off. Once you have the panel off, I found it easier to just take it inside my house & wrestle with it in there out of the hot...
Thanks. I was confused about that because I asked the place where I got the part (who did the fix on the drivers door a few years before) if I needed to remove the door panel first and they said something like "no, you can just take the old piece out with the door intact". Sigh...
Hey guys. Followup question to this old thread....The problem above was fixed back in 2011, I just had it fixed by the place that got the part for me.However now 3 years later, something similar has happened to the OTHER door. The piece with the buttons on it has completely fallen apart...
This was finally diagnosed/fixed last year. The connector for some type of electronic cable was loose - I forget which one now. That was affecting the throttle and how all that stuff worked!
Well it's taken me over a year to get back to this. The hot weather (and the return of my fast idle problems) motivated me to tackle this again.I replaced the ISC with a new one - no effect. Still have the exact same problem. (And yeah it was ez to do like you folks said....had plenty...
I wonder if you are having the same problem finding a 3 inch AWD downpipe as JNZ did for me.Everything has really turned crazy for me - too much to try to explain it all, but briefly, it turned out that a catback system would not solve my problem, the leak is up near downpipe/flexo/cat that...
Thanks for the comments.JNZ has done a lot of work on my car and I'm taking it to them for their opinion on this. They recommend a "Thermal 3 Catback Exhaust-2G AWD".Any opinions on that? I googled it & even saw some youtube videos on it. Seems pretty loud to me but hard to tell...
My '99 GSX needs a new exhaust system (or some repairs to the current one).In the past 2 years I've already put about $600 into the exhaust system, having pieces replaced or welded/patched (like the "mid-exhaust" or the "flexor"), but it still leaks and I assume falling apart elsewhere and...
I'm interested in the glass sunroof piece if the metal lip doesn't have the rust bubble problem like mine does & the seal still works. Even if the seal is shot, if the glass/metal lip are perfect I'm interested. Also some things like sunvisors and carpet.....but you would have to ship the...
I have a '99 GSX, is it the same sunroof as the '95? And if so, what would you want for the sunroof glass/seal?Mine is leaking again despite replacing seal about 2 years ago, the metal lip on my glass is bad, seal is no good, knew it wasn't going to last :barf:Also, how about the driver...
Thanks, yeah that is what happened. The buttons dropped down.I was rolling down the windows and everything stopped, the window lock button turned itself on I guess & I couldn't do anything. Had to futz around with the buttons to unlock the window lock, then the buttons for the windows...
Thanks very much for that info. Wow....I've had that window rattle problem they mention for years and years now.The panel being loose and screwing up my using the windows up/down button is new as of today though. Quite the PITA. Something broke in there when I was pressing the buttons to...
Can anyone point me in the right totally newbie direction for taking a door apart to see what's going on with my driver side door controls? I've read some threads on similar problems but I need to go back to the ground zero basics, namely, how do I take the inside panel stuff off/out right...
Thanks for that video - very interesting; maybe I will try that next once I can get someone else around to assist.Note that I have NOT pulled my ISC out yet already though - I was able reach the poles for the resistance test by just taking the battery out. I'm not sure I can get the ISC out...
Well, I was able to test it (today - Monday) - was getting too dark Sat. night so I decided to wait.I found just taking the battery out gave me enough clearance in lean in under there and get to the pins to test, so I didn't have to remove that elbow joint thing, which I was afraid to do...
Yes it is my "DD". It is my only car. Without it I have no way of getting around. That's a big reason why I am afraid to do anything I don't have any experience with (plus I am not very good with this kind of stuff, I usually end up making things worse).Deep breath - just watched my...
Thanks guys, that helps a lot.I am still a bit paranoid about trying to do this...sorry for all the dumb questions. I have like zero margin for error with this - if I disable the car I am really screwed.Sounds like I need to get a new gasket for the throttle pipe thing first b4 I...
Thanks a lot for that awesome vid.I'm afraid replacing it, with all that stuff about BISS & vacuum leaks etc, is beyond me but at the very least I think I can test it OK as far as the resistance part goes.I just tried to test this - and I find it impossible to do.How do you get at it to...
Thanks a lot - so they call it a IAC / Idle Air Control Valve!Dumb question - is that one OK for an Eclipse GSX 2G?And while I'm at it (asking dumb questions) - I'm not a good mechanic at all but replacing this at least looks ez enough for a putz like me to do, or at least try...
Do you have a part number??? Or name that "Oriellys" would recognize that by??I'm not familiar with Oriellys but found an auto parts place on line by that name here via google:
Home Page | O'Reilly Auto PartsI looked on their website and can't find any Eclipse ISCs. Also tried calling...
Thanks for this informative thread. I think I have this same problem. My '99 GSX squeals like crazy when starting up cold, noise lasts about 10-30 seconds then goes away. Don't notice anything electrical wise so am not thinking alternator related. It started doing this last winter and I...
Thanks, I'll try that HEET tip!I'm pretty sure the problem is with the fluid, that the freezing point is too high. I only have the problem when it gets below freezing or so, and then none of the jets (front or back) work. Over 30 degrees its fine but around 25 or below, nothing works. If...
Pretty funny. Glad to see I'm not the only one mystified by this ;)A related question - is there an ez way to drain that reservoir and refill it? I've been having problems here in occasional recent temperature dips below 25 degrees F, the fluid washer jets freeze up. After a recent...
Thanks! Andy did do something like that, he said my tie rod was wearing down (or something like that) but showed me that there was no shimmi-ing going on, doing what you said about shaking the wheel. Thanks, we looked at that & it looked ok.
Big thanks to hardcorandy, looks like my screeching problem is fixed! He took the brakes apart for the driver front side and noticed pretty much the same thing that the mechanic I mentioned earlier was talking about - very little clearance between the rotor and the outside part of the...
Guess misery loves company (not!). I'm still guessing something related to brakes but guess it could be some kind of wheel bearing thing too. I am going to have to figure a way to at least try to identify for sure what wheel the screeching is to narrow things down. Sounds like driver side...
Thanks....not possible for me to take a photo but will try to describe it better. The gaps between the caliper and the rotor/disc on the wheel that the mechanic took apart, that space - or rather spaces - on the outside part of the wheel it was like 5-10 times greater than on the inside of...
My '99 GSX has a weird problem that I've been unable to get solved by mechanic despite 3 trips there so far in 3 weeks.Am looking for any clues before I go back to the shop....have researched things up here but not sure I've hit on anything concrete. I think this is brake related but I...
What is the recommend way to burp this system? I've been researching this online and it seems to be something where you open the radiator cap - but this is a closed system, no radiator cap. How do you burp a GSX?Also, if I had bubbles/air in there, wouldn't I notice crazy problems like I...
Thanks muchly for that info. There is a lot there I don't know how to do but maybe I can get the shop that worked on the car to do for me.Sounds like the ISC (Idle Speed Control) is the most likely source of the problem, but I don't have stalling probs, just fast idle, and not all the...
