Thank you steve!! I know what I need to do now. I remember having difficulty deciphering what those pins on the ECU were for (33 &41). Thankfully I've saved all the harnesses for that Alt plug. And I am assuming that the 'power transistor' being spoken of in your post is the same power...
I've been working on this 2g for a few years now. I'll add some photos but essentially this car has been gutted. No longer using anything factory really. Just started the car a couple days ago and got it to idle fully warmed up today pretty well. I logged the battery voltage since I assumed my...
thanks for the help. I just picked up a set of those wires from autozone this morning and unfortunately the problem is still occuring. I'm thinking the only other thing would be the coil....but its just strange how it would go while doing a headgasket job.
I did replace the spark plugs but i did not replace the wires. I take it i should replace those too?I was able to drive it to the gas station and put in half a tank of new gas so thats ruled out now lol. Finally a code popped up, misfire on cyl 1.
I just finished my two day ordeal of replacing the head gasket and retiming the motor. When i started up the car it ran ok when it was idling (14-16 hg due to the cams). However here's the problem. I can rev it up...but as soon as the rev peaks and it starts to decel, the motor has a hard time...
yea those two are still in the block. The piece in the picture is about half the size of thoseand i never took off the cam caps. Cams and intake manifold are still attached
I am in the middle of putting the cylinder head back on the block when I noticed this little metal piece on the ground where the head had been sitting. Anyone know where or what this piece is? Thanks
It only happens every once in a while. But after 3k rpms and @ 15psi the rpms slip, only when I really get on it though. I can drive it round town no problem. The guy who sold me the car put it back together quickly because it was in pieces and only had a oem clutch. I think the clutch under the...
It is just the gauge. I feel no difference in response, noise, etc from the motor. However, it could be the clutch...I didnt think of that since it is fairly new..
My tsi started acting a little funny today after driving it a little hard, but nothing out of the ordinary. Anyways, my rpms will occassionally 'jump' or 'stutter' for a second. It seems to only happen above 3k rpms. However, the car runs fine still. Idles great, sounds normal while the rpms are...
This is what we do in our garage. My dads buddy does roofing so he bought some of the rubber membrane off of him. Then, due to snow since we live upstate, we took old garden hose and stuck in under the perimeter of the mat. That way melted snow, puddles, etc, would not go all over the garage...
ok thats what I wanted to know. I see by reading some peoples threads that if your timing is off then the vacuum will be off as well. I guess I'll know how good a job i did while/after I drive it home from where its at lol. Thanks
i just finshed working on the tsi...very long night. Idk what was worse, listening to the same songs over and over on the radio for 8 hours or the stress and suspense when it comes to cranking the motor over for the first time. Anyways, long story short, I installed cams, gears, and retimed the...
yes the holes are threaded, but i did not realize that the plate on the stock intake cam comes off :ohdamn:I dont have the car or the gears here at the house, but when I go to work on it next I'll be sure to see if the plate fits properly. Thanks for the help
I have these Fidanza adjustable cam gears that I plan on using to finish up my cam install. However, since I have a 95, i am wondering if these gears have the copper trigger built it, like the stock intake cam gear does, so that it will work with my stock cam angle sensor. Both the fidanza gears...
sometimes cheaper gears can have the timing marks 'off' and not as precise as the more expensive brands like hks or aem. At least thats what I have found out looking through the forums before I bought mine. I ended up getting a set of fidanza's
I need a hose (with the fittings of course) for a leak down tester. I see replacement hoses on some websites advertising 10mm, 12mm, 14mm, and 18mm diameter adapters. Which do I need for a 4g63? And the threads are all universal correct?EDIT: Ordered a 14/18mm one from summit racing
bottom end marks look good? Thats how the crank sprocket is supposed to line up right? I dont have to do anything fancy with the oil sprocket except align the marks right? The balance shafts have been removed. I havent put the intake cam gear back on yet. I accidently broke the angle sensor so...
I understand what you are saying. The fidanza gears that I have DO have timing marks at the 9oclock and 3 oclock position on each sprocket. So i'll be able to get a straight edge and really make sure they are aligned. If they did not have the timing marks then I would agree 100%, they would not...
If i can use the adjustable gears that I have then that would be great. If the car doesnt start, then I guess I'll know why.So, to get the timing all lined back up where it should be after i messed up, I should follow these steps (correct me if i'm wrong please)
-put #1 piston @ TDC
-take...
thats the only picture I have. it from a few nights ago. You can see how after they were installed, the timing was off because the motor was not at TDC. They are fidanza's...
Do aftermarket gears come with their own pickups or do you have to swap the stock one off? I never even looked into that..As far as the cams, this is where I am at after i realized i f'd up. Belt is off. #1 piston is @ TDC. Cams are installed and the dowel pins are at 12:00. Tonight I...
I already installed new cams and gears. However, the motor was not at TDC when I did this and i feel more comfortable retiming the motor instead of testingmy luck. Thats why I cant use the cam gears as reference points
ok ok. I'm new at this but i like to do things myself on the car so i'm still learning while I go. But what do you mean by moving the CAS? CAS is crank angle sensor right? Since I am working on my 95, it is stationary and it does not move correct?
The piston is at TDC right now. However, as you may know, the piston will reach TDC twice in its 4cylces which is two revolutions of the crank i believe. One of those is compression and one is exhaust. Idk if it matters or not that it has to deffinately be on the compression stroke.
I'm going up to work on my car in an hour or so and something just popped into my head as i was sitting here reading the haynes manual. I'm retiming the motor after a shotty cam install and in the manual it states that the #1 piston has to be at TDC of its compression stroke prior to removing...
UPDATE:Alright so i just started the process of dissassembling the left side of the motor. However, I have a question for you guys. In all the tutorials i read it says, after putting the #1 piston to TDC, check the timing mark on the crankshaft sprocket to see if it lines up with the "T" on...
alright i'm just going to re-do everything. Like you guys said, better safe than sorry. It'll be more of a project replacing the valves and taking everything back apart if it really is wrong now.Still can't believe it, i'm usually meticulous with this stuff. Thanks for the help once again
Yeah I know. I knew I should have done it on a day when I had more time to spare. I guess that's what happens right. Here's what I did in detail. I cracked the cam bolts but left them bolted up. Starting with the exhaust cam I removed the caps and set them aside along with the bolts. Next I...
I've had my talon in storage for the winter and a few days ago I finally decided to go up and install the cams/gears I've had layig around. (Installed BC 272/272 cams and Fidanza adj. cam gears). I've read a few tutorials on how to do it and I had about 4 hours to do the project. I zip tied the...
Which fan is the ac fan on my 95 tsi? Is it the passenger side fan or the driver side one? I would look for myself but i'm doing a lot of work on it at the moment and i cant start it up.
Thanks
i contacted k&n tech support two days ago and they hooked me up. I was able to buy one directly from them. I also found out that their products have a million mile warranty. Pretty cool, i didnt know that
haha thanks for the tips but i'm aware. I didnt want a cast mani nor do i want to spend $700 on a real one. I didnt want to spend a whole lot of cash now because I'm not going to have the e3 16g for much longer. I'm going to go bigger and am going to need a mani with a external wastegate. Wasnt...
Thanks. I bought a ebay tubular not anything fancy. My cast mani was cracked in a few places so i just needed a quick replacement. The turbo/exhaust is held up on it own by a support bracket so there is not much weight on the manifold if any. Hopefully it will last a while.
this is the filter. The adapter next to it is what I am looking for. I'm in a bad situation. I sold the k&n kit on ebay as well as my stock maf. I forgot to remove the adapter off of the maf and so it never got sent to the guy who bought the k&n kit. If you guys do have that style adapter id...
I am in need of the adapter that bolts to the stock MAF and allows to you to connect the k&n fipk air filter to it. I searched but I did not find just the adpater on any websites. Does anyone know where I could get one? Or if anyone has one for sale? Thanks
^not everyone has all that money for said tuning devices. I would definately opt for those, but they are not an option for a full time college kid workin a low paying job. Maybe later.Anyways the problem is fixed. Turned out that the the gasket between the turbo and the manifold was half...
wow thanks for the replies. As far as the dip switches on my maft, they are all off (3"maf, prevent fuel cut, aux fuel control)
