The car did not crank when we ran direct power to the starter so we are changing it as I speak. I'll let everyone know how it goes! Thanks everyone for the promp replies.
My buddy is having a problem with his 1997 GST. The car will not crank over whatsoever. The starter tested good, the relay behind the stereo is good, the teeth on the flywheel are good, and we replaced the battery. Also, the crank turns easily by hand. When we turn the key, it "clinks" like the...
UPDATE: pulled the transmission and found that the clutch is in pretty good condition. The pressure plate was a little odd to me, though. When I first pulled the tranny, I noticed that the fingers on the pressure plate were stuck down. What does that mean?
Slave cyl. is the next thing I will try. Replaced the Master cyl. early today.UPDATE: I don't mean to hack someone elses thread but I thought it would kill two birds with one stone. I replaced both cylinders (master and slave) and bled them THOROUGHLY. I can get my car in gear once in a while...
I'm having the exact same problem. I had fluid inside the car from the master cyl., so i replaced it today and bled it. It still wont go in gear while its running but when I try to start it in 1st gear with the pedal pressed in, it starts to jump forward.UPDATE:I was able to start the car in...
If you don't already have a boost leak tester check this link. they are hella easy to build and very effective! How To: Boost leak tester for $5.02 - evolutionm.netalso +1 on .28 gap!:thumb:
I don't mean to sway slightly off topic here, but I was looking at both fmic's for my 97' gst and wanted to know which one LOOKS better. And when I say that I mean I want one where I can cut the black lip off of my bumper and have it show NICELY without having an ugly gap. Also, I would like...
Mine had this problem. Turned out the spark plugs and wires were old (and cheap). I replaced both with NGK brand plugs and wires. Solved my issue.Hope this helps,Mac
Force It In: Your car looks like it has the instrument panel of a small aircraft with all the guages installed lol jk but really yours look pretty nice man.I bought a 1g last week that some glow gauges installed. Not too fond of them myself.
I had a buddy with the hahn kit and he absolutely loved it! It was super quick as well (beat my Gs-T)Good luck with your choice and your possible build
Both an automatic and a manual transmission dsm can be fast. I say it would be "easier" to get down the track with an auto that was built right. I don't want to call it something that its not but the hop up rebuild kit for an auto will significantly improve your quarter mile time!Good luck...
An automatic car can be just as fast as a manual (or faster). They have a nice range of parts and rebuild kits for the Auto (ex: shift kits). My buddy was going to convert his 420a-T to a manual but decided to do a shift kit instead. It was an easier route for him and didn't hurt his wallet all...
This is probably an old thread but I thought I'd inform those looking to buy the mud guards (97-99 GS GST GSX) from jnztuning, that they cannot get anymore.
Ya, I checked the terminals, they were tight and clean. As for the alternator, I had it checked and it was "deemed" good. Could it still be the alternator?
Let me start by saying it is a 1997 GST w/ a 3" exhaust, boost gauge, and narrowband(awesome lightshow I know) and HID (plug and play).Down to the issue: Basically, when I press the brake pedal, turn on my lights, or turn on a blinker, everything will lose power for a split second. It just...
Do the free mods 1st! You can take the restricter out of the boost controller which will up your boost to about 14lbs which is safe for the fuel system you have. I'd do a boost leak test, also.
Try changing out the spark plugs. I had that problem when I first picked up my dsm. It had autolites or something like that. I replaced them with NGK's and haven't had a problem since.
I had the megans which looked extremely good but the ride totally sucked. I already had blown struts already so it didn't really matter about the fact that they seem to blow struts faster than any other company. ROFL
When I first bought my GST it seemed to hit "fuel cut" at 4k-5k RPM's. The problem was that the last owner was using cheap plugs and wires. changed plugs to NGK's and never had that problem again.
ya the FPR is stockI might add, though, that I've checked the timing and when the crank is on 0 and cyl. 1 is at TDC the timing marks on the cams are touching but the marks are not flush with the head. Is the timing slightly off? I've been told the timing may be half a tooth off.SOLVED...
A few months ago my 2g GST slipped timing. I had the head rebuilt, replaced the water pump, and replaced the belt of course. After its all said and done, I have an idle issue. The car will idle around 750-800 and will lope. It never loped before I had the head rebuilt. My CEL is on too. The...
Ya, I was working on that during my first post but come to realize O'Reillys sent me the wrong part. Correct part will be in tomorrow and updates will be posted.
My 97' GST died the other day as I was going out to the farm. A CEL came on but unfortunately I listened to one of the hands and left the negative battery post off all day.So...I can start the car and drive it for about five minutes. The car will then die and not turn on until i let it...
check the small stuff like your plugs and wires as you stated, but also check all your vacuums. As for the SAFC, I don't know much about them but my buddy has one and it can definitely throw your fuel mixture off by just changing one percent and make it run horrible.
If the timing belt jumped a couple teeth, wouldn't we be dealing with bent valves? I only say this because that just happened to me in march.I would start by getting an aftermarket boost gauge so you can monitor the amount of vacuum your pulling.
Yes, my BOV is recirculated. How do I conduct a boost leak test? Would hooking up a boost gauge tell me what I need to know by the amount of vacuum I'm running? If so, where abouts would my vacuum read at optimum? Also, please expand on what a BISS and FIAV/IAC is.(EDIT) Checked the vacuum...
I assumed this to be any newbs first question but I could not find a thread about it anywhere (sorry if I overlooked it). Is it possible to run an FMIC on a stock 1997 GST without any issues?Also...I have an idle issue.(I have searched this issue too) The car seems to run as though it is...
I was looking into buying your car til he told me he was in the AirForce in Alaska and would ship it anywhere in the world.. Moreover it was listed in Denver, CO.
