I'm running a hy35 in a 5 speed car best so far is 8.37 1/8th at 86mph this is at 20 lbs and 16 degrees of timing when I shift it goes down to 4k rpm and is right back at 20 lbs. Good turbo for 150 bucks. I'm thinking pretty hard about an auto swap.Are you using nitrous to launch the car?
Hy35 will get you in that range I bought mine for 150 used it's not just a bolt on though. The hy35 is one of the smaller holsets so alot of Cummins guys upgrade witch means we get them for cheap
You would probably be fine but I would highly recommend getting ecmlink or a good tuning solution then you can data log and make all kinds of changes. Tuning should always be the first mod as far as I'm concerned.

After the down pipe ibthink it would be easy on these cars just get some extra pipe and practice only way to get better. I've made my own on some of my other cars I got better every time.
