    struts or coilovers?

True, you can't beat the adjustability of coilovers, but if you get adjustable KYB AGXs, then I think it would be good enough. Like everyone said, if you mainly want to drop the car for looks, stay with shocks/springs. Performance, coilovers.

should i port my head to reach my goal?

What do you need 600 whp for if you're strapped to get the car running before school? Pulling that kind of power needs to be done carefully, not rushed. If you don't have the money or time and start taking shortcuts, you're just going to regret it. Even without a ported head, a GT37, nice...

    AEM EMS VS. ECMLink

If you're a beginner and don't know where to start, do not get the AEM. For one, it's incredibly expensive ($1300+ if you're talking about full standalone). The ECMLink v3, on the other hand, is ~$500 and gives you all the tuneability you need for plenty of safe hp. I'm running AEM full...

1st twin scroll 20g on DSM !!! (EVO 10 turbo)

Wow, a lot of hard work and custom fabrication. Always cool when someone has enough ambition to make stuff fit. And I applaud your effort to retain PS and A/C. Most people say "Screw it, it's easier." And the kind of spool you are talking about is crazy good response. I definitely don't...

    3" downpipe to 2.5" catback?

You're right about heating and cooling, but wrong about denser and expanding. Everyone knows that hot air is *less* dense than cold air. Cold air "shrinks" and hot air expands. It is pointless, however, to have a less restrictive pipe leading into a more restrictive pipe (i.e. 3" running to...

    25psi on T25

Agreed. I'd say the main reason you were able to hit 25 psi instead of 21 is that the FMIC raises the efficiency of your turbo a little, like the poster above me said. And you said you got cams installed??? I guess cams are ok with stock turbo and all to give you more oomph, but there's no...

    3S vs GSX/TSi

Man...pulling the motor just to work on/swap turbos? No thanks. But as for the OP, do what you want. 3KGTs are definitely more exotic looking and a turbo V6 has a cool sound. If you got the cash, go for it.

    oil change

I'm sure this isn't necessary, but I do it just for safety. My friend sold a turbo kit to a guy who didn't prime it with oil before starting and it fried the turbo wheel bearings. So when I do an oil change on my car, I take the plugs out crank over the car a little to get full oil pressure...

2Grand to 6 grand with no power

Just because someone else ran a 20G on stock fuel doesn't mean it's ok. People have done *tons* of things that aren't ok and just because their engine didn't grenade doesn't mean yours won't. I also agree that 16 psi on that turbo, regardless if it's a 16g with 20g parts, etc, is pushing waaay...

starting my first ever dsm build

I don't know if sound quality is part of your consideration, but I don't consider DSMs to be "good" sounding cars due to the stock cams and head design. EVOs sound way better out of the factory. Anyway, I would definitely recommend HKS exhaust to make your car sound the best. Or, if custom 3"...

VHT Nite Shades [Merged 8-7] tint tinted smoked painted tails taillight taillights

Yeah, you definitely want to do very tasteful appearance mods that you won't regret later. You can get a little fancier once the rest of the car starts to come together. But smoked tails on a bone stock 2g? Nah.

    Which DSM to buy?

Alright, I want to get into the DSM world. I've been looking around for hours on Craigslist and whatnot and have found a few promising ones. The first one is a '92 Talon TSi AWD with 65,000 miles on rebuilt motor with 2G pistons (according to owner). Has AEM stand alone, Borg Warner S256 @...

The Official "What's this DSM worth?" Thread

Well I am pretty persuaded to get the latest one I posted. The guy says he has receipts for everything, even down to the last nut, bolt, and oil filter. I don't know how you get anymore legit. Once it stops snowing, I can go check it out/buy it.

The Official "What's this DSM worth?" Thread

Alright, sorry to wake this up from the dead, but I think I may have found "the one." 12.2 second DSM AWD *eclipse*The car is meticulously well done. Starting off with a 12.2 sec car would be fine with me :). Plans for future mods would be a GT30R @ 20ish psi. But that would be down the road.

The Official "What's this DSM worth?" Thread

Yeah, after thinking about the 1g more and more, it was pretty obvious it wasn't worth it. You have to remember that I'm coming from a car that runs mid to low 15's...so when I hopped in that 1g (didn't get to drive it) and the guy told me to put it in first and push the gas to see what launch...

The Official "What's this DSM worth?" Thread

Well if everything goes smoothly, I might be cruisin in a white '96 TSi AWD. I definitely like doing mods myself but...I want a car faster than the one I have ('02 SVT Focus). The SVT handles really well, but it just has bolt-ons and custom cams and it's not fast..."quick" if you want to call...

The Official "What's this DSM worth?" Thread

Wow, what are the odds...actually, I guess they're sorta high since we have the same interest and this is the biggest DSM forum that I could find. I like that your car has A/C for sure. Not sure how hard it is to reinstall... Everyone else said your car is worth 7500? Wow, I guess that...

The Official "What's this DSM worth?" Thread

It seems that Talons tend to be cheaper. I'm not on a super budget, but I do want to get my money's worth. There was a guy selling a '98 GSX for $11k...and all it had was 16G and supporting mods, nothing fantastic. I was like, forget that.

The Official "What's this DSM worth?" Thread

4500. I might be able to talk him down a little, but it's a pretty good buy. Only thing I wish he hadn't done is put a 7-bolt in instead of a rebuilt 6-bolt...probably got it for cheaper. Still a sharp looking car with potential.

The Official "What's this DSM worth?" Thread

Yeah, after weighing both cars, the rebuilt one is probably an accident waiting to happen. The motor is strong for now, and when the turbo spools up, it sounds wicked with the 40mm WG. It's just that it looks like a piece of crud on the inside and the bumper needs to be painted. It's pretty...
