Under ideal condition, yeah, I agree that the stick trans would certainly pick up 2-3mph and possibly even a little ET.BUT, Iv been doing this a long long time, and ideal conditions rarely happen, ESPECIALLY when you build a "race car" out of junkyard parts like I do. Prior to the auto...

My galant vr4 went 12.0@113 on 14b, that was a full leather interior street car with power glass & sunroof. Basic ac/cruise/abs delete and removal of the metal bumper supports likely brought the curb weight down to standard 1g awd weight range.I'm pretty sure bottom 12's @ 111-113 are in...

Sorry, not going to the shoot out, can't take time off from my new job nor family.Bad luck tonight. First run had a timing error...no timeslip past the 330'. It would have been a mid 11 anyway, only a 1.79 60' leaving at 15psi and boggingf slightlySecond run I left at 20psi. Spun...

Planning to make passes with #431 on Wednesday July 10th at Island Dragway . Hopefully it goes smooth with the car ending up back in the mid 9's like we had in 2011

Yes, they have been closed since last year. They are thankfully re-opening tomorrow actually...new management. Hopefully it lasts.I'm basically going tomorrow just to show support for the track and put $25 more in their register on opening day. I don't expect the red 92 to ET well without...

    10.7@127. Fp3052 auto 1g daily driver.

Nope...no way I'm changing the converter out. I'd rather fine tune the power/spool to launch right on the stock converter than throw $800 or more out for a converter "upgrade" that just allows for more rpm and slips away power. At least in the power/turbo size that I can make the free stock...

Minor update: I swapped out the HKS 272* exhaust cam for a stock camshaft, and while it idles slightly smoother, it is still stuck at 3psi of boost on the converter with the FP3065.Planning to go run it at island tomorrow night with hopes that a blend of ethanol fuel and ice in the...

I never got a chance to try out the hot pipe vs icewater IC on my 14b car when running ethanol/methanol. Mine did run fairly well with the alcohol/icewater combo though, it certainly wasn't a "never do it - it wont work" situation.:aha:

    10.7@127. Fp3052 auto 1g daily driver.

Got the fp3065 cartridge swapped in, with no other changes: It won't spool past 3psi on the converter while running 93oct pump gas. Booo. Will try ethanol first, but looks like I'll have to give it a little dry bottle on the line until the 2.3l goes in.

I'm going to port it myself, then find a machine shop to cut the valves/seats, deck, and assemble. I've been using Edwin Automotive in rock away but I'm not set 100% on him.

    10.7@127. Fp3052 auto 1g daily driver.

Well, the frank reason for the 2.3 is because "that's what I have, and it's in "unsellable" condition". I bought & parted out a car with a smoking 2.3l forged motor, shop that built it folded over some oil rings during initial assembly. Scuffed cyl walls. I think I can hone it and replace...

    TalonDave raises the bar in 2013 - 9.20 @ 154.32; 60mm HX40

Dave buschur specifically said DSM cars can use any of the stock appearing EVO turbochargers including the FPblack (and make 700+whp) and race in the stock appearing class, now that EVO & DSM stock classes are combined. It's entirely possible that stock appearing cars run faster and quicker...

Well...I'm always on a budget, the pump I was using actually came out of an RV (pump for bathroom water). It was a diaphragm type shurflo positive displacement pump (high psi, low flow). But in this instance, a free water pump is better than no water pump. With a big bilge pump, 3/4"...

2010 I ran the liquid intercooler with the 14b. Granted it was a cheap tiny core and I was running the completely wrong type of pump with small hoses & restrictive fittings. (Barely any water flow during an 11sec pass). It would have AIT at the throttle body of under 40*f on an 80* day at the...

I would rather have the opportunity to out engineer a competitor with a crazier setup than he can imagine, than be forced to beat him by being able to afford the ceramic wheel bearings, titanium axles, and magnesium wheels when there is no options left to explore.

As if its not already that way? With the above proposed bans limiting the "field" to 1g fwd stick cars running 2.0l bottoms with 1g heads, on e98 with only generic exhaust/airflow potential....The ONLY way left to increase performance is with spending big money on custom lightweight parts...

IMHO limiting the opportunities to push the envelope In setup has the adverse effect of squashing any invention or progress. When you take away all the areas that can be improved, then why bother making an effort if the ultimate setup is a basic 2.0 with generic mods in a gutted fwd. we have...

    21st ANNUAL DSM/EVO SHOOTOUT

yup, and when you combine that power level with a 2400lb gutted 1G AWD with the Automagic trans, it wouldn't surprise me to see the "stock turbo" winning car running faster than the entire DS Eliminator class and able to qualify for Q16.Granted, Im not going to build a car specifically to...

    21st ANNUAL DSM/EVO SHOOTOUT

This sounds great, as the Evo8-9 with oem turbo is a pretty level playing field with 1GAWD cars on the oem upgrade 16g turbo. Guys have gone 130+ on the Evo3 16g.I can't see swapping to an Evo8/9 reverse rotation turbo setup on the old style 1g/2g 4G63 being any significant advantage UNLESS...

Yup..same compression, displacement, cams, and fuel. The gt42 was just a dog for us, gave up too much bottom power compared to what minimal gains we saw up top. Granted our cam/head/intake/tune/boost level might have been more of a factor in not seeing an insane power gain on the bigger...

    GVR4 #431 - 740whp

Last season we had 100hp of dry nitrous running on the converter and through till the 1-2 shift with a GT4202 turbo & devided t4 manifold. It wouldn't 60' better than about 1.55, wouldn't make more than 40 psi boost until second gear.

    GVR4 #431 - 740whp

GizmoVR4 and I went out to VTR (Vinny Ten Racing) in Long Island on saturday night to spin the rollers with #431. Likely because their 16g started off in a plastic bag w/ zero miles in the last couple years rather than starting life in 1989 and spending ~150k miles boosting an oem 1g with questionable service&care.

My 1.46 was leaving at full power, the only way it would leave harder is more power/weight ratio. I don't think there was anything left in the setup/tune/suspension that would have dropped it to 1.39Maybe with a 16g that would make more than 21psi on the converter. (Launch it at 30psi!!!!)...

There is always a little chunk of ET left just to luck as well, and you can snag that chunk by going to the track more often. It's that magic combo day of sun on the track with ideal VHT stickiness + cool air temps + tailwind + perfect driving + perfect tune + shallowest stage + least fuel...
