I'm curious to this as well. How did that end up sealing for you? I'm guessing/hoping good since you didn't come back in and say otherwise. I installed my 450 in the hanger yesterday and used this method. It certainly took a some muscle to get the pump into the hard line with the rubber fuel...
Finally got around to getting the motor all back together yesterday. Went to fire it up and wasn't really getting anything. But I could smell fuel and lots of it. So I hooked up the laptop to try and see what the car was doing. My map sensor was reading 38 psi all the time, thus dumping...
Well it sounds like my luck finally took a turn for the better. Although I didn't get a call when I thought I would I finally took it upon myself to call them today and they had just gotten the head from the machine shop. They ended up recutting the valve seats and relapping in the valves. Then...
I dropped the head off this morning. Told them that the head needed to be pressure tested to reveal the leak so they can correctly diagnose the problem. Unfortunately it's sort of a third party deal, the shop I dropped the head off at isn't the actual machine shop. They have their preferred...
The head is going back to the original shop on Thursday morning. It is confusing to me on how the numbers improved but they are still not where they should be with a fresh head.I haven't verified any of that. The valves are standard sized Manley's with oem guides. The valves were from my...
I agree and that is what I'm going to do but is there ever a "perfect" seal? Like should I be able to spray brake clean in the ports and not be able to see or hear any bubbling going on? Or will there always be a bit of air making it through?
Well just when I thought I had it kinda figured out, the car threw me another curve ball. Was tearing everything apart in preparation to remove the head and decided to leak it down before I loosen the head bolts. This was with both manifolds off, and nothing but the valves and springs in the...
Nope. That is what needs to happen next. Some sort of pressure test so they can see the leakage. Hopefully will get sorted out this week. I'll keep this thread updated.
Valves aren't new. Used them on my previous head. But with all this trouble I've been going through they have been checked by 2 machine shops so that is very unlikely.
Thanks for chiming in Herron. Do you have any idea how much you were leaking before you re lapped any of the valves in? I've essentially had two machine shops lap these valves in with the second one saying the seal looked really good when he lapped them back in. I as well was instructed to tap...
Yea, I mean obviously I'm sure it works for some people but I personally don't know anyone who doesn't spray their metal HG. Everyone has a way of doing things the way it works best for them and until this past time I never had issues with a HG sealing. With the bind I'm in now I'm probably...
Thanks for the responses guys, I thought this thread was dead and haven't checked it in days.Like I said I already removed the cams and no difference once so ever. I agree I now think it's something to do with the valve heights.Unfortunately my issue isn't as obvious as yours. I inspected...
Well surprise surprise the head didn't magically seal itself just by running it. It's almost impossible to even keep the car running. Have to keep the pedal to the floor to even get a quick little 2.5k rev out of it then it dies, which isn't surprising when the valves are leaking over...
There are valves that are clearly worse than other ones, but I'm not convinced that it's every valve. It seems that the intake side is a bit worse but there is still leakage on the exhaust side. There are some valves where I can't feel or hear them leaking but that's definitely not an exact way...
Even with the motor being cold it's not pushing much past the rings. But anyway that's getting off topic. Like I said before when I pressurize the cylinders I can literally easily FEEL and HEAR air leaking past the seats. This is with no exhaust or intake manifold.Have you ever heard of...
Thanks for the quick reply! It sounds like our leak down testers are way different. I have a Jegs tester I've been using for years. No need to reset, there is a regulator knob that you open to let air into the cylinder and close to set back to 0 psi. It has two gauges, the first to show how much...
Alright, where to start? The car is a 90 GSX. Decided to build a new head this spring which seemed to be in better condition that my previous. Upgraded springs at the same time. Specs on the head are Kelford 272's, Kiggly beehives(brand new), and Manley standard sized valves.Got the head back...
Where did you get the flange fitting to the turbo? I have the flange from the ExtremePSI kit that accepts -10 but I dont know if it will accept -12. Thanks.
Did you ever figure out what was causing this? I'm having a similar problem. This also sounds like my issue. Everyone keeps telling me that if it were valve seals it would only smoke until the car warms up. Did your car do this even with it warmed up?
No unfortunately I didn't. I just got a new laptop and thought I downloaded the right driver software and found out when I got to the track that I didn't and couldn't connect. Thanks! Thanks! What're you waiting for?My 60's were in the mid 1.7's. I had one 1.8 and my last pass was a 1.67...
Thanks for the kind words guys! I'll just post the important stuff for the mods list. 8 blade hx-35 w/ t3 BEP housing, shitty Megan Manifold, Tial 44mm, custom3" downpipe, Thermal 3" the rest of the way back, Built block, kelford 272 cams, bc springs and retainers, JMF race intake manifold, N/T...
Went to the track for the last test and tune of the season. Nothing on the car has changed since my last best back in August of 11.67 @ 120.First pass out was right on par with my old best, 11.69 @???. Next pass I figured I would try out the no lift to shift. That alone got me an 11.54 @ 125...
That's definitely not bad with the fwd. I'm awd and I also trapped right around 109-110 with my old 16g and was running low 12's. Get some slicks and some extra axles and I think you'll be a lot happier with your times.
Very nice man! Love seeing you go faster and faster with the HX-35. Tells me I still have so much more to get out of mine. Car looks and sounds awesome going down the track.
Thanks man this car definitely has me excited for next season. The goal is 10's and I really think that's a possibility with little changes to my current setup. And yea I noticed the difference in MPH myself and it kinda boggled my mind. Only thing I could really think of was that I was...
Yea man we definitely will! My car is most likely done for the year as well. I'm burning oil like crazy and it's not pcv related. Either valve seals or rings. Obviously hoping it's valve seals but idk. I need to put a roll bar in the car over the winter, get a NICE exhaust manifold(thinking...
Thanks Jon! Where the hell have you been? Haven't heard from you in forever! Hope you got your goal of 10's!Thanks a lot man! It's definitely been one hell of a ride. Unfortunately I think I'm done with the car for the year. Had some things pop up that I wasn't expecting so my money is tied...
Thanks!! I have Kelford 272's, JMF Intake, N/T TB bored out, t3 housing, speed density, 25 psi. There is much more but those are the basics. We don't have much in the way of e85 here. I have meth injection hooked up but I'm waiting to put in a pressure switch to run it. I'll be able to squeeze...
Thanks! The car was tuned by K.P Tuning about 2 months ago but I made a bunch of fuel changes so the AFR's were all out of whack along with the timing. So with a retune it should run real well.
After ditching my 16g setup last year for my HX-35 setup I though 11's were a lock first pass of the season. I was very wrong. My fastest pass with the car was a 12.3 with the 16g. I took the car to the track twice and could only net mid 12's. I new something wasn't right.Right before the...
I thought the same thing. I had a 90 cas in there. I converted the the 91 style and same exact thing. I guess this cas could be bad too. I was always under the impression that when cas's go bad you know it.Swapped in my 90 ISC to match my 90 harness and waaa laa! Idles like a champ now. Still...
I'm pretty sure I figured out the idle surge. You can't just swap a 91+ isc motor into a 90 without either switching 2 wires or using the 90 isc or the isc will run backwards. As for the cas being adjusted all the way I know it's not a "good" thing but I've been running it like that all year and...
Alright guys the car is a 90 GSX. I had a pretty tough time getting the base timing to 5*BTDC. The CAS is maxxed out in the advanced position. I have Link so I'm positive I was doing this with the pin grounded. It was idleing a bit higher than 750, maybe around 850-900. Also double and triple...
Damn man that sucks! I made a few changes since last Friday. Got V3Lite hooked up but I am getting a decent amount of knock so I'm going to address that now and then if I get it figured out ill turn up the boost and see what she can do. Thanks man!
Thanks man! Yea I can't wait to turn up the boost a bit. I'm actually going back up today. So we'll see.Yea man it was very exciting. All my friends ran out to my car and it was pretty cool haha.I didn't list it on my mods but I do have a AEM UEGO wideband, and I actually just got my...
I did the opposite, swapped a 91 into my 90. I only had to change the bracket you circled in red and I'm pretty sure it's the same in your case. There is actually a really good thread on here about this topic. Search it and it should pop right up.There is one...
Thanks man I don't think I could have possibly driven it ANY better. It def. helped that after the sun went down it was probably 55-60 degrees outside. I can't wait for V3 lite this week so I can play with the boost. That it is! I'm only about 35 minutes away which is really nice!
Yesterday was my 3rd time to the local dragstrip and I was hungry for 12's! My first trip up got me some 13.7 passes, a 13.3 pass, and finally a 13.1 pass. With no 2-step my 60ft times were killing me. I was getting anywhere from 2.3 to 2.0 60 ft times, OUCH! Here is the video of my 13.1 from...
Thanks for the information! Can I get a pic of exactly which sensor it is??Well I'm going to try the coolant temp sensor to the ecu tomorrow if I can get a hold of the part tomorrow. If that don't work I'll try the coil pack. I'll let you guys know the outcome. Thanks for the help so far...
