  2. FS: Buyout on 1Ga/b parts and cars

I'm up around Olympia WA. Seeing as one of the cars I'm selling is a former Portland ride and the parts are a great deal to boot, I figured I should link to in in the Portland forum.Thanks...
  3. FS: Buyout on 1Ga/b parts and cars

Hey tuners, I've got an awesome deal for anyone in the SeaTac/Portland area if you're into 1G cars. I've got a mid-sized lot of (admittedly dirty) DSM parts and 2 cars that I'm trying to find a new home for. Everything's located in Yelm WA if you want to take a look. You can hit me up with...
  4. Identify this engine

Just to put the turbo/non turbo argument to bed (without the removal of the pan). That blocks got a knock sensor so it's definantly a turbo block.
  5. how to identify crower cams.

Look at the timing gear side. Put them both next to each other. Hold them in a manner where he dowel pins for the cam gears are aligned strait up. The closest lobes to that end should be straddling the top (one set goes slightly to the left, one goes slightly to he right). The one with the lobe...
  6. Your most recent welding pics

So i got my diversion 180 up and going yesterday on 110v in the garage. It's been about 10 years since I've done any TIG welding so enjoy my pain ROFL . I've got a new DD/toy 90 GST that needed an engine so, upon reassembly, I've removed the balance shafts. And without further ado; my first...
  7. The Official Welding Thread

Using gas and loosing the flux core will make all the difference with a little mig like that. If you can afford it and plan on using it, I highly recommend converting.
  8. 95 gst motor mounts?

I'm not really sure what exactly you have on your car right now. Did you put some stock replacement mounts in the car? As for polyurethane or other mounts, i've listed some options below. These will work if you have a manual car. They take a bit of work to get in as you have to...
  9. 6cm turbine housing repair with TIG question

yeah, i was thinking about putting the housings in the oven to preheat. Guess we'll see how it turns in sometime this week.
  10. 6cm turbine housing repair with TIG question

Hey guys, I've got a few 14b/13b turbine housings sitting around in various states of disrepair. they all have cracked WG flapper seats and a crack between the impeller inlet and the end of the impeller vane where it flushes with the wheel. Does anyone have any experience TIG'n these back into...
  11. 98 Eclipse GSX 350-400hp DD

Looking forward to see you get into this journal. Thought I would weigh in on you with your ???s.A 272 or something slightly less aggressive (like 264s) will get you there, I would go with HKS 272s but that's personal preference.I'de not recommend the adjustable cam gears, they won't make...
  12. 1995 GSX Project "RedSun" Restore then Gymkhana

yeah those numbers are kinda low but its rare to have all of them low uniformly like that, probably a faulty gauge. How exactly did you do the compression test? If another gauge is not available, I would try a dry test again with the engine at running temperature then I would do a wet test to...
  13. 1995 GSX Project "RedSun" Restore then Gymkhana

I'm enjoying this build. It's good to see someone with modest goals working towards getting the car running well on a budget. Wish I was there, would love to have shown you all the timing belt tricks and a free-ish balance shaft removal to boot. My best DSM advice is to do all your mods...
  14. Parting a 90 GST in Yelm

Hey guys,I'm going to either give away on the super cheap or crush a 90 GST in the next few days. So here we go; everything is OBO or maybe free if you want to come get it yourself. I'm in Yelm, south of JBLM. Cars in fairly bad shape but it has some good parts that someone out there may...
  15. '99 GS - SRT4 engine swap

First, I really dig this swap! cant wait to see it running!Tank, I was all over the SRT4 scene when they were just coming out. I broke 500 wheel horsepower on one in 2003 or 04. Theres a video of me driving the car on the UTI dyno back in the day. 'Cept for the guys supported by...
  16. DSMlink... Local (reputable) tuner thinks DSMlink is crap....?

At some point in the thread the acronym SAFC was used. I think most readers are taking that as Super Air Flow Controller (or whatever it stands for), the Apex-i device. The OP of the phrase SAFC in this thread meant Stand-Alone Fuel Computer. Just wanted to clear that up. I read someone say...
  17. Tig question

just my 10 cents on welding and what make/model to buy.Instead of a flowery diatribe on my experience, I'll just say I like miller units and probably wouldn't buy much else of anything.I've got late 1980s miller ARC unit, early 1990s millermatic 185, 1996ish spectrum 500 plasma cutter, and a...
  18. EGR Question!!!

why block it off in the first place? it dosnt do anything but give you better milage.
  19. Some one has to know this?

put a scantool on it and deterimine which of your inputs are bad... Coolant temp (if it reads -40 for instance), karmen count (MAF reading), and also check your IAC%(should be 30-60%).
  20. Differences Between 1g and 2g Pistons

I believe the difference is: 22 mm wristpin bore in a 1g, 23 mm wristpin bore in a 2g. you have to get the 1g rods machined 1mm larger to fit the 2g setup.
  21. fwd limit

Theres a very simple way to answer the how much is too much question. It's all about traction control. they make 1000 horsepower FWD cars go down the track without any wheelspin. We'll simply figure out how much boost/timing to run in first gear so we can launch hardest and not spin, then...
  22. For Those of You With Either Big16g's or EvoIII 16g's Come In..

Where are you quoting FPs price from? I show FPs retail price to be 599 and slowboys price to be 569 as listed on websites.
  23. Accumulator in turbo oil feed. Thoughts?

Thats a good idea, We scavenged one off of a powerstroke a few years back and put it on the white race car. Think of all the trouble saved if you have to do a hot shutdown :) Good stuff for drag racers and a VERY good mod for people with ball bearing turbos.
  24. Good deal?

well break it down.... there are companys out there selling full IC kits with very GOOD ICs for 800-900 bucks, MAF and MAFT should only be 250, intake pipe and filter should be another 100 or so. Its a good deal if your pinching pennies, but unless that IC is the best thing since white bread...
  25. Stock Exhaust Man. With External WG

I've ran a few of them, Make sure that you dont have clearance issues with hood/rad fans... Just some brain candy: You can also get a external dump o2 housing, pull your internal flapper, and mount your WG on the dump tube...
  26. fuel pump alone = more fuel?

UTEC = :thumb:Now if they'll ever get around to finsishing the SRT4 version, so they can make the evo 8 version so they can make the supra version so they can then MAYBE make the 2g version... so MAYBE MAYBE they'll make a 1g version or i can just swap my 1g to a 2g harness.... get what im...
  27. Any way to get an external wastegate on Big16G?

Thats what your looking for. pick one of thoes up and pull your flapper valve out. OR you can just have your internal wastegate dump though that anyway. I'm not really allowed to tell you where to buy that since we're not allowed to advertize for ourselves ;)
  28. For Those of You With Either Big16g's or EvoIII 16g's Come In..

Just this last week, I did a customer install: an evo3 from SBR, SBR FMIC kit with piping, 680 CC injectors, 255 pump, and an AFC on a 99 GST, The car had full exhuast on it. Everything else was BONE stock. All I can say is the writing is on the wall: this car layed down 260 horses at 9 PSI.
  29. fuel pump alone = more fuel?

its rated in LPH, If you only flow stock, then You're flowing about 130-150 LPH. If you upgrade to the 190 or 255, your flowing that many more liters per hour. Its just simple supply and demand. if your car dumps more fuel that the stock pump puts out, you need a bigger one. If you go with...
  30. srt-4

    what kit is that?
  31. heres my shot at crankwalk fix...

this 90 block was a walk victim anyway... I guess it was one of the 'likely' ones :)
  32. Any ideas as to what prompted this? *link*

"It shocks me , why 2 profesionals of the tuning world see it fit to argue like kids accrost the internet . Also it makes me want to take my busness some were else."Its not a big surprise that they're into this on the internet. The internet is a VERY powerfull tool FOR or AGAINST shops...
  33. heres my shot at crankwalk fix...

Just though I would take a shot at a fix for the dreaded crank walk.clutch pressure is a quite obvious cause of crank walk (proven in MANY performance engines... IE: fords windsor block with a heavy duty performance clutch)Here is how I think one can combat crank walk when rebuilding an...
  34. Fastener Torque Values [Merged 3-9] value tightness torques specs specifications

70 for stock gasket, 80 for cometic, 90 for o-rings and copper gasket
  35. srt-4

Thats steve's car allright.... NO nitrous. Its got an upgraded compressor housing, PSI FI powerpaq (an AFC and 3 BAR map sensor rolled into one), return fuel system, about 10 sets of motor mounts :), and 3 inch turbo-back. We've just about pushed the upgraded compressor housing to the limit...
  36. coil pack...

what are your plugs gapped at?
  37. srt-4

we've ran mid 12s on the stock pilots with an 03 SRT4 about half a year ago. Its gone a very long way since then too...We're pushing 360 horses and 390 torque :thumb:
  38. Are the SRT's makin yall blush?!

here ya go, I do alot of srt4 work at These are the dyno numbers that we're getting with an upgraded compressor, larger injectors, 3bar map/PSI FI powerpaq 'AFC', return fuel system with large pump, and turboback exhaust.I just tuned these out today, unfortunantly the...
  39. JDM tranny theory

I would recomend checking the early 90s stuff, alot of vehicles had air powered locking hubs.
  40. MT 4 bolt rear gears into AT 4 bolt rear???

you can get an entire 4 bolt rear end for 300 bucks if you go to a good yard and have 'em look on the net. theres nothing wrong with buying the MT gearset but last time I checked, about a year ago - there were only 23 rear end gearsets left at the DSM stockhouse up in Michigan. You'll pay a...
  41. JDM tranny theory

just for instance: a big jacked up bronco has selectable 4WD.... you have IN/OUT which controlls the output to the front axle. This is all fine and dandy but the entire rotating assymbly in the front end STILL moves... this is why trucks have lockout hubs. when you take the vehicle OUT, you...
  42. JDM tranny theory

You may Gain horsepower on a traditional dyno, BUT thoes drivetrain components that you previously SPUN will still have to SPIN... so whats going on is you're trading more drag on the motor FOR a little more horsepower. The physics of it state no gain in speed. Worst case scenario - your load...
  43. JDM tranny theory

Sounds like a good idea... there is one problem tho. Instead of having to use extra power to spin all of that extra weight, You will STILL loose power because it all still spins when you're going down the road. All of that stuff is connected though the tires/axles/rear dif/driveshaft... It...
  44. problem almost figured out, so here's my final clutch question

the throwout bearing ISNT suspsoed to touch the pressure plate when the clutch is out... if you have it constantly touching, it will wear out very very quickly. you should have 1 inch of play in the pedal before you can feel the T/O bearing touching the pressure plate.
  45. Update on crankwalk fix

I would try to put an oil pressure sending unit up there in the stock 1g location and see if you have good oil pressure there under all conditions. Obviously if youve got good pressure there with the big stainless 2g kit line, then you're doing ok.
  46. SBR-2g20g?

for the price/power you're looking for, I would go with an SBR 20g, or a TCC godzilla series... both of them are going to make alot of heat up at 425 horsepower, make sure youve got a good intercooler to keep that cool, otherwise you'll just be dumping timing to fight spark knock.
  47. Valve job

little secret tip... If you get a valve job - DONT tell the machine shop you want a 3 angle valve job... thats STANDARD at EVERY machine shop in america. They will most likely charge you 50-150 extra simply because you asked for it. If your after a 5 angle or 7 angle job, you better be making...
  48. Auto trans swap! '90 into a '94?

dunno? If its a 6 bolt to a 7 bolt swap and your trying to use the 90 flex plate... it wont work... give me PM if you need a 93 flexplate/torque converter/tranny/t-case, ive got one laying around that i'll get rid of cheap.
  49. Dyno in Texas Area...

Hows it going Xinfiniter? I'm the dyno-technician over at We've got an AWD dynojet adjustable inground dynomometer. It's also capable of 2wd dyno pulls... LSU4 widebands are used for precise tuning and we've got a large 8 bay shop with qualified automotive and turbo...
  50. Tuning Cam gears based on vacuum and HC's?

You can see anywhere from 25 to 50% vaccume loss at idle with a mild-moderate cam. crazy cams will kill most vaccume so if you've got 14in. - Your in the right area.
