I had to do a complete engine rebuild because some stuff went through the engine. Good thing is nothing made it to the head but the crank and main/rod bearings were pretty bad. New oversized bearings and the crank was turned for smooth surfaces. I cleaned, cleaned, and cleaned once more...
Its been a while since I have been on due to moving and stuff, but ive made a little progress on some things.
My windshield washer bottle after being so old basically fell apart. I got a Vibrant Windshield Washer bottle and put it in the same location where the stock bottle was. That meant I...
There are 2 balance shafts. One that the small belt turns, and the other is part of the oil pump. I rebuilt my engine so it was the perfect time to eliminate them and the kit isnt expensive.
My balance shaft timing belt broke, took a trip and bent the valves. I no longer have balance shafts because I don't even want a remote possibility of that happening again.
I meant the people trying to create an electric turbo. Of course people that create these videos want views and clicks, but trying to reinvent turbos is just kind of pointless unless they can get the same performance for less money.
2500 price tag for 5psi. You might as well just buy a turbo engine for that price and have 500 dollars left over for some upgrades. You can get a complete turbo 4g63 for around 2000 dollars, use that 500 to refresh the engine and have boost all the time and not when you press the button. those...
I just wish there were more cars. Every time I go to the store there are always 2 massive trucks that park either side of me and then I have to hope no one comes flying down the lane while I back out of my parking spot since I cant see anything. Either that or have separate parking. If...
Sure, fast charging exists, and at 0% it takes about 20 minutes to do 50% but its not 40 minutes to 100%. It's over an hour, but that isn't anywhere close to a couple of minutes when it comes to fuel. That number is also with a purchase of a supercharger or using the supercharge station for...
I mean, realistically, electric cars arent that bad of a concept. But you have to get that energy from somewhere and it takes a pretty long time compared to filling up a fuel tank. You can fill a tank in no time and be on your way while to get a full charge, on some motorcycles, it takes an hour...
Reading the thread, there is issues with cooling the turbo, power, and a few other things which just get a regular turbo. The cost of possibly getting solar panels to charge the battery for the turbo.
Electric motors can get hot, even the really small ones. I raced tamiya cars at hobby shops...
There is an issue with electric turbos, and that is power. Not in the power it can produce, but the power that the electric turbo needs to spin enough to create boost. This turbo needed 48v and can only produce about 5psi on average. While its a gain in HP, its just not better than a turbo that...
The rubber seals on the bottom of the injectors are called injector insulators and if they are hard then change them out. I had a ton of issues with my engine, base timing was out of wack, IPS wasnt set right, injector insulators were hard and leaking, FPR vacuum line was leaking, EGR blockoff...
I don't think the cams would cause any issues. I have BC street cams for a future turbo build and my car is running just fine.
I know I had a problem with my maf but it was a 1.8 maf from when I did my swap. I would go over what. Is free, check your timing, check spark plug gaps and stuff like...
Is there any codes? Any signs of a fuel leak anywhere?
No O2 sensor after the cat on a 1g. You can tell if it's a 6 or 7 bolt by the lower timing cover.
I run into that with my bike at times, but its usually from stuck up Harley riders, or people that dont ride but think they know best. Everyone who rides usually thinks its a bigger bike than it is and doesnt really care and would rather just ride than to try to put someone else down.
Its...
It could be that too. I just finally got done fixing my idle, months of messing with it, it can make you pull your hair out because it isnt working right and there is a long list of things it could be.
Throttle cable too tight maybe? I dont know if the 3g has a point for idle surge, but for a 1g its 1500. Once it reaches that point the computer will cut fuel to the engine until the RPM comes down then cut the fuel back on and it cycles. With a throttle cable that is too tight it doesnt happen...
Not in Georgia. From what I have found it costs more per year for Hobby Antique which requires to be a car, truck under 14000 pounds or a motorcycle, and it either has to 25 years or older or made to look like it. Its 55 dollars per year because its a specialty tag while a regular renewal is 20...
I replaced both seals this weekend. The only difference is that I removed the 2 nuts and bolts from the shock and swung the hub out. It takes a little bit of work to get it out of the hub this way, but its literally 2 bolts and 3 nuts and you get get them out. Other than that its just how...
What about the internal IPS though in the 2g TPS? If that isnt working right you are going to have idle issues. I have a 2g TPS on my 1g and I set it to how the factory says and I have no issues. No trying to get it to a certain voltage like you do with the 1g TPS since the TPS and IPS are...
Looks open a little too far. I would say the opening should be between a sheet of paper and the material a band-aid box is made out of. The rest should be handled by the ISC (if you use it) and the BISS. I have an s90 and the gap looks close to the stock throttle body gap.
Idle surge is created by too much air bypassing the throttle plate and when the engine gets to 1500 it cuts the fuel until the rpms come down and then it kicks the fuel back on and then you get this cycle. It could be the ISC, it could be the throttle plate not set right though thats the last...
There are emissions testing in Georgia, but only in Atlanta as far as I know and that is why a lot of people live outside of Atlanta so they dont have to do emissions testing. Ill look into the classic/antique tags.
It doesnt look like there is any benefit to having a classic tag though unless...
I was just saying if you swapped injectors, not to a new set but with different cylinders you can rule out faulty injectors. Just like what you do with RAM in a computer with certain issues and can either find the cause is a bad stick and that stick is causing a no boot in a certain DIMM slot...
It would be weird for the 2 outside to be clogged, but have you swapped the injectors around to see if it isnt the injectors that arent working? Like swapping 1&2 and 3&4. I would at least check it, if 1&4 cylinders continue not to work then you know its not the injectors.
I removed my balance shafts since I had the small belt break and take a trip inside the timing cover which bent some valves. I dont know if you can get the shafts out if you do this however with the block still in the car, if you have the engine pulled I would at least consider it. Its one less...
Yeah, I would like to know about the write up on the zinc stuff. I know you can brass pretty easy with a torch and brass wire wheel. I dont know if it works on all metals, but it works on steel.
Yeah, VHT is quite expensive, but then again you can use the rest of the can on other parts as well if you wanted too. Say like a steering wheel hub, fuel rail, spark plug cover though I would say your black looks pretty good the way it is. I like little accents like what you are going for, and...
You could get the VHT SP404, its a pretty nice gold. Tape it off and spray it yourself and then bake it. I might do that with my fuel rail while I'm waiting on my battery to come in. Just trying to figure out my color, either the stock color that it was which was one of the silvers, or...
The factory manual says .48-.52v. ECMlink wants it at .63v.
There are many places air could be leaking though I would at least try to adjust the BISS first. With how old these cars are seals start to get hard and could start to leak. Injector insulators, BISS o-ring, vacuum lines, gaskets...
Just slap a Honda cbr250r engine on it. You might be able to hit 100mph with a different sprocket setup on it.
That is more like a death cart at that point though and a complete joke.
AC shouldn't have anything to do with idle. It's an independent system aside from the belt. The intake manifold could not be seated properly and not making a good contact all the way around it. That's what happened with my JM Fab intake manifold.
You can use some spray to see if there are any vacuum leaks. Starter fluid, carb or throttle body cleaner should be ok, but brake cleaner is corrosive and makes metal parts look like absolute crap. My dad has a vacuum leak on his hemi and when you spray it it raises in idle. Gotta check it all out.
I did, they had asked if the throttle cable could effect their idle, which it can. It can cause a high idle if it is too tight. Too loose then it has no impact on your idle since your throttle plate should be sitting in its proper position.
That should tell people that if it can cause a high...
Pin 3 is your IPS that tells the computer the throttle plate is closed and 4 is your ground. You use ohms and not voltage to set it. I have a 2g TPS here, but I never knew when to stop turning it for adjustment, I guess when it starts showing something other than open loop but I never really...
Sounds like the ISC is good though the wisemen on here suggest getting the black plastic ones since the stock ones have a high chance of messing something up in the computer. Something to look into at least.
One thing that stands out to me is the vacuum line closest to where the throttle body...
A missing IPS will make it so the ECU doesn't know that the throttle plate is closed so the idle would be weird.
The orange top ISC is the stock ISC from my understanding and the 91-94non-turbo and 91-99 turbo are all the same. It could be very well that it went bad. All the aftermarket ones...
Go through the list of things and quite frankly there is a lot. But seeing how you swapped to a 1g throttle body, do you have a 1g TPS or 2g? If 1g then you are missing the IPS reading unless you wired it to get it from the 1g switch. If its 2g then just adjust it unless you have already done...
I have Rev9 on a 1g and I can say they arent that great. They function, but they dont ride that well and if you do get them it would be best to take out all of the preload if there is any to begin with. They are really stiff so any bumps, bridge transitions or anything else is a nightmare.
A new FIAV housing is 140 dollars if I remember correctly, probably not worth it however if you drive it so little. If you do get one though look under a 3000gt vr4. Thats the only place i was able to find it.
If the throttle plate is out of adjustment it can cause issues as well. Mine was at...
An update, it looks like the difference between the N/A and Turbo ISC from the parts stores is the turbo ones are basically cheap generic ones while the N/A's (at least this is from Autozone) have a Mitsubishi logo on it as well as a few other numbers. If there is any overall difference it looks...
If it is the FIAV housing for you and you have link, I would pop the freeze plug out, twist that thing in, possibly put some RTV around it and close it back up and then set link to simulate the FIAV with the ISC. The ISC and the FIAV work together in the first place. Also learned what causes...
It all entirely depends on time and money. If it were me I would do basic upkeep until I was able to afford whatever I wanted to do. Research research research.
I had gotten an ECU from Steve on here that had some ones that he rebuilt for an N/A laying around since the people at ECMLink never replied back to me. BUT, they say if the ISC is good to check the ECU drivers being blown, which I could open mine up again to check but I highly doubt it since I...
