  1. Help: Coil pack removal

I'm trying to replace the coil pack on my car but I'm having trouble taking it out. I was able to remove all four bolts, but taking it out from under the intake manifold is the problem. If I pull it straight out, it'll hit a wall near the belts. If I twist it to go around that wall, it will snag...
  2. help: timing belt serviced now car is vibrating

I brought my car to the dealership and they told me its gonna cost me $500+ just to diagnose the problem. :barf: I was outta there like a bat out of hell. Guess I have to try some other shops, even TurboTrix if there is no one near me that can do this.. :(
  3. Car running on 2 cylinders!!! Power transister?? HELP

Test the power transistor unit. It was faulty on mine, when this happened to me. Replaced it with a second hand one and it run perfectly after that.
  4. help: timing belt serviced now car is vibrating

Yes, the vibration becomes less noticeable at high RPMs. So does that confirm that the BS is out of phase?
  5. help: timing belt serviced now car is vibrating

All the belts and pulleys were replaced. The mechanic has no idea as to why, for him it's normal. Not for me though, I know how the car feels before the timing belt was serviced. And no he will not do it again. :(
  6. help: timing belt serviced now car is vibrating

I have shown the printed directions to the mechanic at the shop and he claimed that he did them correctly. :( He said that if I bring it to another shop and prove that they commited a mistake that he'll pay for the cost of redoing it. I'm highly tempted to bring the car to satan :barf: What do...
  7. help: timing belt serviced now car is vibrating

Thanks guys, I have printed the directions and will take it to the shop.
  8. help: timing belt serviced now car is vibrating

Thanks for the fast reply 90 GSX. Does rotating 360 degrees mean, from its current position, rotate the oil pump sprocket 360 degrees? Or is there a preset position to start from? Also rotate clockwise or counter-clockwise or it doesn't matter?
  9. help: timing belt serviced now car is vibrating

Hi everyone. I just had a full timing belt service done on my car and now the car is vibrating and noisier. :barf: I had the shop to redo it but the vibration is still there. The mechanic said they had put them all correctly. The belt, pulleys and waterpump are all OEMs. Now what could have...
  10. Timing belt visual inspection

If you are not sure, it is always prudent to change all the belts, filters and fluids of a recently bought second hand car.
  11. Water temp raises at idle, lowers when cruising...please help

The left fan, the one you do not have, cools the engine esp. during idle.
  12. 90 turbo eclipse, has no spark, will not start

If you have a manual, the instruction on how to test the power transistor is there. Though the diagrams seems wrong. Ignore it. The power transistor in a 1990 has 5 pins though the instruction says 6. The key is that pin 4 does not exist. So if you look at your power transistor the pins are...
  13. strange idle, rpm and staling problems

Follow his advice. I too had an idle surge problem, went thru the motions of what's in the vfaq and everything checked out fine. I finally got frustrated, pulled out the ECU and it was going bad. Replaced it with a rebuilt and fixed my idle surge. :thumb:
  14. 90 turbo eclipse, has no spark, will not start

The coil is on the top right of the engine under the intake manifold, follow where those 4 wires (spark plug wires) from the spark plug cover is coming from. The power transistor is under that almost behind the timing belt.http://members.shaw.ca/dsm.1000q/Engineprimer/1G/Q2.htm
  15. Eclipse STU STUUU STUUttERING please help!!!

Have the code pulled. If it was a random misfire, another possibility is the power transistor unit. It was on mine and I was able to finally fix it. :thumb:
  16. strange idle, rpm and staling problems

Check your BISS if its still there or it's o-ring may need replacing. Check this first it's a cheap fix. Other than that check this site http://dsm.org/how-tos/tttt/tttt3.html. If all else fails, check your ECU if it's going. It was on mine.
  17. Quick Belt Qustion

So how many belts are there aside from the timing belt and balance belt? And are they all the same size? I searched around shops and I see no distinction. And which is better v belts or multi-v belts? Thanks.
  18. Valve Cover

All DSM 2.0 4G63 have the same valve cover. Did that helped?
  19. rear hatch lift up....

They are called hatch support struts. When its new, it will pop up on its own and the difficult part is to close it down. But as it ages it will soften-up and you have to give it a little lift. When you have to hold it up to keep it up, its time to replace them. Those darn rear hatches are heavy :P
  20. 90 turbo coil same as non turbo coil?

Well according to the manual 1990 2.0L engines must have 0.77-0.95 ohms on the primary resistance and 10.3-13.9 kilo-ohms on the secondary resistance. There was no distinction or even mention of a turbo or non-turbo. So I would bet they are for both.
  21. no spark on 2 and 3 cylinder

Try checking your plugs, plug wires and power transistor unit. One or two or all of them may be going bad.
  22. How to test a 1990 GST Power Transistor Unit and Coil Pack harness?

Thanks a lot guys. I'll invest on a Manual CD and try again on that power transistor :)
  23. How to test a 1990 GST Power Transistor Unit and Coil Pack harness?

Ok, I tested the ones I bought and both tested fine. I wanted to try them out and swap them with the ones on my car but I'm having a hard time removing the power transistor. How do you guys replaced this thing? Do you actually need to raise the engine? Sorry about the question but I'm no grease...
  24. How to test a 1990 GST Power Transistor Unit and Coil Pack harness?

Thanks. I'll try that as soon as I can. :)
  25. How to test a 1990 GST Power Transistor Unit and Coil Pack harness?

Hey guys, I'm trying to fix a random misfire on my car and suspecting either the coil pack or the power transistor unit. Thing is, I wanted to test them both but my Chilton Manual is not enough. The ignition coil harness of a 1990 GST has 4 pins while the manual states 3 pins. The power...
  26. Misfire and CEL on and off, please help me!

I have the same problem though I haven't fixed mine yet. Most people here suggest to check the power transistor unit it might be that its the one that is actually bad and not the coil pack since the problem was not fixed when you changed it or it could be both. And at 118k I would strongly...
  27. Oil Leak On Oil Cover [Merged 9-7] cap gasket dipstick leaking pool

I brought the car to a mechanic. Had the code pulled out and had thecar checked as well. The code was code 44. But the thing is, they could not replicate the problem. I left the car with them for a day and had them test it again once it has sufficiently cooled down but they still cannot...
  28. Oil Leak On Oil Cover [Merged 9-7] cap gasket dipstick leaking pool

It's either the oil cap gasket, valve cover gasket or worse you have a hairline crack on your valve cover.
  29. misfire code, and engine stutter

Thanks. I will check the coil pack and the transistor unit this weekend. I found on my Hayes Manual how to do them but I don't know where the transistor unit exactly is. The drawing is not exactly clear. Is it under the coil pack? I will take a pic of what I suspect it is and post it here for...
  30. misfire code, and engine stutter

I think I'm experiencing the same problem of misfire and stutter of a 1g-2g swap with my 90 GST but I have not done the swap. In fact, I have done no modifications to this car except for a K&N air filter. I have replaced the valve cover to fix an oil leak. The spark plugs (NGK BPR7ES) and the...
  31. Oil Leak On Oil Cover [Merged 9-7] cap gasket dipstick leaking pool

Thanks a lot guys but I still need your help.Ok, I have replaced the valve cover, I bought one on ebay, so there are no more visible oil leaks. The spark plugs (NGK BPR7ES) and the wires are new. The valve cover gasket is new (FELLPRO), oil cap and gasket are new. New OEM Fuel Filter also...
  32. Oil Leak On Oil Cover [Merged 9-7] cap gasket dipstick leaking pool

I have a hairline crack on mine too. Can you suggest somewhere I can buy a cheap valve cover? MachV sells one but they cost close to $300 :( Are those on ebay any good? For the meantime I'm going to temporarily seal that crack with Ultra black gasket maker. Or is that no good? Suggestions would...
  33. Oil Leak On Oil Cover [Merged 9-7] cap gasket dipstick leaking pool

I have the same problem. After a not so hard drive, my valve cover becomes a pond. I already had the valve cover gasket set replaced so that's not it. I'm going to replaced the oil cap gasket as soon as I get one but I don't think, that's it. I really suspect it's coming from the top bolt of the...
  34. Jumping idle...

It sounds to me like an idle surge problem, esp. UndergroundR32's. Try these links:http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=16855#post16855http://www.dsm.org/how-tos/tttt/tttt3.htmlThe probable cause range from vacuum leaks to a bad ECU. Good luck. ;)
  35. 1G throttle body compatibility

Does anyone have an answer to my question pls? Does any 1G Throttle body work with a 1990 GS Turbo?
  36. 1G throttle body compatibility

I am having the infamous idle surge problems with my car. I already have tried a few fixes like cleaned the t/b with a carb cleaner, replaced the o-ring of the BISS, and checked the ISC where I got around 38 ohms. After all that I'm still having the surge problem, I would next try thoroughly...
  37. Tapping noise on tight turns

Pardon my ignorance but what does CV stand for?
  38. Tapping noise on tight turns

I've been hearing some tapping/clicking noise from the front wheels when I do a tight turn on low speed. The p/s fluid is fine and there is nothing lodge on the wheels. Does anyone have any idea what is causing this and how to fix it?
