    My compound turbo set-up

Amazing work, Paul, and congrats, the results are just as awesome! Can't wait to see what this beast does on the dyno, and more play videos.

    Holset Turbos, PART 6

95burgandyesi - something definitely isn't right, *especially* if you're using a bolt-on turbine housing.ezz-e - any diesel performance shops should be able to rebuild for you, htturbo.com, citydiesel.net, I'm lucky to have a local Holset specialist shop I guess, tepturbos.com - you may give...

    Holset Turbos, PART 6

Good info and nice setups everyone, hope to have my T3 HX35 setup back up and running this summer :(

Need pics: HX35 in a 2g with both OEM fans

I don't have pictures either so sorry, but I also ran OEM fans with my HX-35 setup, it was a very tight fit though, considering my T3 manifold put the turbo closer to the fans and away from the water pipe/block, but everything fit pretty much perfectly. OBX old style T3 manifold was used.

    HX35 Project - Almost finished!

I ran mine from the head without issue, this was on a rebuilt 6-bolt without balance shafts and without a ported oil relief.

    Holset Turbos, PART 4

That is a massive turbine housing on that 1st one, I'd stick with the HX35W.

time your car with a timing light after you're done changing the belt?

No because the ECU assumes you're at 5 degrees base timing regardless of what it actually is.

Broken Lug Studs on ABS Talon...HELP [Merged 9-6]

You shouldn't have to remove the hub, I never have and I don't think a 1g is all THAT different. Just tap it out with a hammer and rotate the hub around until it falls out.

    Holset Turbos, PART 3

I had a v-band flange from ATP that matched the downpipe welded right to the Holset v-band flange. I'm going to make what I have work for the time being, I'd really like to hit the dyno and track soon to see what it'll do aside from spinning 3rd gear, I threw in an ACT unsprung 6-puck like a...

    Holset Turbos, PART 3

I posted up some pics here, the downpipe is a universal 3" shorty from ATP Turbo. Everything clears for me, with this manifold, but thats only because I'm running only the downpipe right now, it'd take some fabrication to get it to clear my IC piping as well as the oil filter. I'm planning on...

    Shearer Speechlessness

Even coatings turn to shit after a while from what I've seen, personally I'd rather just shine it back up with some sandpaper every so often.
  13. Spidey

    Shearer Speechlessness

Hit it with some sandpaper Flash ;) I think if you do this every once in a while, it will keep it from turning into ass like a lot of tubular manifolds I've seen. Only time will tell, I plan on trying with mine.

Very clean car, good luck with the swap!

    New noise, possible rod bearing

My suggestion would be the pull the pan and rod caps, it really isn't that difficult or time consuming once you get the car up in the air and the exhaust off. I had a bearing go bad and it was pretty much exactly what you've described. Noise which sounded like it was in the head but really hard...

    Holset Turbos, PART 3

So wait, thats the .70a/r T3 housing on the right up there? I'll retract my statement, if so. I must have seen a picture of the wrong housing when looking previously, as it looked like the standard BEP housing on the left.
  17. Spidey

    Holset Turbos, PART 3

My housing is a twin scroll one, but it bolts to the center section. I like it a lot, I honestly would not go with a bolt-on housing with anything larger than a 16g(if considering a 20g, there are better Garrett alternatives IMO), they're just very restrictive, even the ".70" a/r BEP housings.
  18. Spidey

    Holset Turbos, PART 3

I don't even know *which* turbine housing I have, but its quite large compared to any bolt-on housing.
  19. Spidey

    Holset Turbos, PART 3

My manifold is a real OBX unit, so far so good ;) Granted I wouldn't run one of their turbos, the manifold is actually quite nice. I need to get a new PS rack and get this alternator relocation kit on and and my 272s in, ugh.
  20. Spidey

    Holset Turbos, PART 3

Here are some more pics of my T3/v-band setup, had to adjust the brightness in a few so sorry if they look washed out. And no, the DP isn't touching the alternator, theres a tiny bit of clearance, and yes, I DD it like this for now.

    $2,100.00 intake manifold.....

BTW nice link, there are some pictures of some 4g63 cousins in the second set of pictures(the Formula 3 cars/powerplants). OMG
  22. Spidey

    $2,100.00 intake manifold.....

Kansai Service has quite a bit to do with HKS, do some research.
  23. Spidey

    $2,100.00 intake manifold.....

Its just a sample picture, if it is made for ALL Evos(like most 'JDM' parts), including 1-3, then it will fit a DSM, but the runners will be 2g-sized.
  24. Spidey

    Holset housing question

It will depend on the turbine wheel as well as how the housing mates to the center section. Why not just use a stock T3 housing that the Holset comes with?

HX-35 oil return from theturbotrader.com leaking heavily.

I have the same oil drain flanges, but socketless hose-type AN fittings, from ExtremePSI, and haven't had any issues with leaking, and I did not use any sealant on the threads. You sure you tightened them enough? And as asked, new gaskets?

I'll have some more pics other than whats in my gallery already as soon as I do some spring cleaning of the engine bay :)

    Holset HX-35 Oiling

I'm getting oil from the head with mine, without balance shafts, with squirters, and an unported relief hole, and no restrictor for the feed line. The oil inlet of my HX-35 itself tapers down pretty small, I saw no need for a restrictor, and I have not had any smoking, and spool-up is fine as well.

    Holset Turbos, PART 3

Just curious for those of you running bolt-on housings and Holsets, what is your total investment so far for a Holset setup?(turbo, oil lines, exhaust work, wastegates, etc)
  31. Spidey

    Holset Turbos, PART 3

Haha it is so fun though :) Boost could very well be spiking to 28-29psi but I've been trying to watch the road when it 'hits' for safety :) The gauge and BoostEst were dead on at 20psi, I'm not sure why it would change with cranking up the boost other than a leak, I'll have to do a leak test...

    Holset Turbos, PART 3

I'll do some spool testing once I get a tune, but if I step on it at 3000rpms I hit 26psi before 4000rpms... Here are some logs at around 26psi with 2% fuel taken out. I'm on a stock rebuilt 6-bolt, stock rebuilt 1g head/cams/intake, and stock 2g MAS. I have some HKS 272s I'll be throwing in at...

    Holset Turbos, PART 3

I think this thread needs to be cleaned up, or split, a lot of this stuff has nothing to do with Holsets, although good information. On topic, my 8-blade HX35 with the stock twin-scroll T3 turbine housing, is doing 38lb/min @ ~20psi on a stock 2g MAS. As a side note, my manifold is undivided...

    Holset Turbos, PART 3

The turbos can be rebuilt, you don't need to buy a new CHRA unless yours is fubar'd.

What are FIC 850's capable of?

Wret's article is meant as a guideline, not solid fact, as we all know every car(and tune) is different. You can surely make more than 400 with 850s, though. ~55lb/min of airflow should certainly make more than 400 crank horsepower on a dyno.
  36. Spidey

OBX equal length SS tubular manifold. Looks good!

Resurrecting because I have the short runner unequal length version(seen here), though I only have maybe 5 miles on it as I'm still needing to fabricate the rest of the downpipe(all 3" v-band). There are 2 very minor fitment issues, the first is my turbine housing(stock Holset T3) didn't quite...
  37. Spidey

What are FIC 850's capable of?

850s will be plenty for an HX35 assuming the car is tuned properly and your fuel pump can keep up.
  38. Spidey

HX35- what does it take to make it work?

It still has a Holset center section :)
  39. Spidey

    Holset Turbos, PART 3

Okay, new question: Anybody have a source for Holset 5-bolt/v-band flanges? The Garrett 5-bolts look similar but I don't think they are the same and I can't find verification anywhere that they are/aren't. I also don't personally know anybody local with a T3 5-bolt setup. I had planned on...
  40. Spidey

HX35- what does it take to make it work?

I don't think Garrett fittings are the same, maybe just the drain, but I would order the Holset specific ones from ExtremePSI and not have any worries, mine are on and fit perfect.
  41. Spidey

    turbo question?

Your turbo is a true Garrett, it just has PTE housings on it. PTE does this because they can cast their own housings cheaper than they'd pay Garrett for the turbos with housings(also because Garrett does not sell turbos with DSM-specific turbine housings), so they only buy the CHRAs. Take a look...

    Big turbos & Stock fans...

I'm running a T3 Holset HX35 with the stock fans, barely though. The driver's side fan's frame needed some trimming. Did I mention I didn't have to dent the water pipe at all either :)
  43. Spidey

    Holset Turbos, PART 3

Cool, looks like we'll be running similar setups(stock motor/cams here too, though I have a 6-bolt w/ 8:1cr) aside from the turbine housings. I really need to order some flanges and get this exhaust done, ugh.
  44. Spidey

    Holset Turbos, PART 3

    Any dyno data/DSMlink logs/track times? :)
  45. Spidey

    Holset Turbos, PART 3

I've read through most of the threads and didn't see anything, so I'm going to ask: has anyone run an 8-blade HX35 with the stock Holset divided T3 housing? I'll be running this setup soon, the car runs now but I need to finish the exhaust up, just curious if anyone already has any results.PS...
