I just wanted to give a little backstory. The man who sold it to me has a lower trim model (Montero LS) that already had money put into it. His neighbor actually owned this 2.5 Generation (Gen) before him, but it was sitting on his driveway since 2010.
(His on the left, mine on the right)...
On my 1G there's a black goo, once melted the sensor is bad. Here is a pic of a bad vs good one.As far as testing goes. I can't really say since it's pretty much a microphone that picks up certain frequencies. I'm sure there is a thread on this site that will help troubleshoot the sensor...
So a couple of things:It's very simple but often overlooked. Have you physically checked your knock sensor, and made sure it is working properly?adjust your TPS, you're currently at 0.61v and you need to be in 0.63v at 0% throttle. Also, I used to get a lot of phantom knock while not being...
For those of you that don't know, this is what a good vs bad knock sensor looks like.
If the goo is melted just replace it (if you can find one)So with that being said. Does anyone know who still sells some GOOD ones? ROFL Cause oem, and RockAuto ones are discontinued.
I was thinking of putting it back there, but I feel like it's harder to see it from there.Nice man!! I was in Elementary during that time. So unfortunately I didn't have the chance to get one of those hahah!
They look sweet!Seriously tho... ALL red cars besides 1 silver.
Is this a red...
I just wanted to show that these sweet stickers look great!
For those of you that don't know, there are (I think) 3 different variations and are sold in pairs per order, with different sizes.I also want to thank @Ludachris for sending the pair. If it wasn't for this site, I wouldn't know what...
Update:Yesterday I got my buddy to help figure out the engine harness I have, and wire up a relay to power both fan via temp sensor.
The kit i bought said it actuates at 175-185°F and when I hit 190° the fans did not turn on. I turned the car off to avoid it getting any hotter since the fans...
As per my tuner, those are in fact fake Bosch. He also mentioned something about using a '05 350z Bosch WB sensor. They're probably cheaper in the auto parts store. I've yet to buy one, so I can't confirm for sure.
He works for AEM , so he definitely knows his stuff.
I wouldn't trust word of mouth unless you have receipts of the work done by a shop. Even then I'd inspect the work. When I bought my 1g, the P.O said timing was recently done and when I did it anyway I found this.
Just a little update: I received my new "carbon" manifold blanket, and secondary fan. But like a noob I blindly ordered a fan, and it turns out that I can't fit a 14" with my current set up :ohdamn:. So I just decided to trim the oem fan and make it fit. Now my temps never go above 206°...
Ever since I did the head gasket nothing has really happened besides me swapping out the Mitsubishi VC cause its cracked. Now I'm back to the lame "16 valve" VC :notgood:. So heres a pic of that small process, and just a random pic of the 1g at my buddies alignment/tire shop in Monrovia CA
The car is done now. It's washed and I cleaned the bay after getting dirty and greasy.
So here's the "newish" look.
All the intercooler piping, the o2 housing, the fuel rail, and the wastegate are now black. The only thing I changed completely was the way the Electric boost controller was...
Continuing today I cleaned for hours before deciding it was time to pull the head.
I also painted some stuff black cause I really don't like chromeI post all updates on Instagram btw @rick_4g63 i talk etc.
I forgot to post when it happened, but I finally got a tune!. The injectors are basically maxed out (1200cc) and my 3 bar map sensor maxed me out as well. Next time I get a touch up. I hope to have 1600cc at least, and a omni 4 bar.
ANY-TIME YOU BUY A USED CAR, DO TIMING!!Ok, back to your regularly scheduled program. It seems like you got the main things covered.
Also, inspect the bushings, driveshaft carrier bearings, etc. These are old cars, and need to be inspected thoroughly.
There is absolutely no way a motor will cost you $10k.
Put it this way, you can buy this for under $6kAlso, you're able to upload videos here. You don't need a YT account. There's an "upload video" option next to reply.
It may not help much but have you tried cycling out the E? It doesn't do well when it sits for a period of time. Check your injectorsto see if they're flowing properly. Thats why it's recommended to do a cycle of pump gas to clean whatever gunk Ethanol may leave behind.
Its the only variable I...
You can minimize torque steer but again, that comes with FWD territory. And if you want to do a civic as well, I'm telling you right now, don't even bother with a GST. The civic will be a far better car power/weight as a FWD build than a DSM.
I'm sure it sounds cool to do an AWD swap but it's...
For street fun a GST is cool. Although I wouldnt really go past the 350hp range as it becomes harder to get traction.
If you want a monster build go with a GSX.
The problem is that it's becoming harder to find a clean GSX which is why some people settle for a GST. Doing an AWD swap is very...
Thank you Chris!
Just trying to be as detailed as possible for those that have similar goals. And using this vehicle profile link helps me from having to type my mods every single time someone asks. ROFLHopefully it also encourages people to make a profile and keep the site running strong :thumb:
This is what I can add to the already good suggestions, and points: Make a goal list.
What are your goals for the car? What do you want out of it? $1,000 can be blown on stuff you may need to replace in the future.
It's better to spend the money once and not have to worry about it...
