I jumped someteeth on my timing a while back, finally got a refurb head with new head gasket on the motor. I first used a cometic head gasket with arp studs. I torqued the head down correctly and in the rite order, a little at a time too. I put it all backtogether and start it up and it runs for 5-10 secs and stalls out. I take it all apart and figured out the headgasket went out on me. so I do it again cleanup the gasket torque it back, Try again starts for 5-10sec and stalls and looses all compression once again. I get a gasket that is material and try that, Starts for 5-10 sec and dies out, so now I use gasket maker on top of the material gasket and then try it and it happens again. Im cleaning the surfaces before mounting the head with break cleaner. And the past time I used a 5in rotational sanding bit and lightly touched the block with it to get anymore of teh old gasket off... Ive done it all and its not working,.... ANy ideas? It also shoots white smoke out b4 stalling to its death each time. I loose compression in all cylinders everytime

First off the gasket maker is a bad idea on head gaskets, and second, you need to check the block for being warped. If the block is warped, it will make the gasket blow every time.
So i would run a straight edge and check.

do what he said and also check the head. maybe it wasn't cut right when it was redone. i would find it hard to be the block but then again you took an sander to it if i read that right. hope lightly ment really lighty

highly unlikely that the IRON block is warped, its probably the head.

ive used 2 differnt heads from 2 differnt companies.also the last time i did it i sanded the block to sree if it would help

just get the mitsu composite OEM gasket. i was running the mitsu 4 layer and it was pushing coolant. i know a guy with a 60-1 turbo running 28 psi with the composite headgasket and ARP head studs. i am alsoi currently running the OEM gasket. but in your case, it sounds like the head bolts are not tight enough. u did use the moly lube, correct? and torqued the ARP's to about 90 ft/lbs?

is your motor the seven bolt? If so and you are using the stock bolts, they are a toruque to yeild. The seven bolts can can generaly be used once or twice and then the are out of yield specs. The 6 bolt however, can be used numerous times be fore needing to be replaced. If the 7 bolts are usedafter they loose there yield, they will not hold a torque and the gasket will fail.

Were the studs installed correctly? If so then getting accurate torque readings shouldnt be a problem. The only thing left to do is check the block and possibly have the deck shaved.

Im using studs. i cleaned the stud hole and installed the studs with the arp lube on them...hand tight also used assembly lube

can someone scan the bolt tightening pattern. I wanna be 120 percent sure its right. Ive been consulting the book with everything.

yea i tightened it up rite(reverse of what book had) damn i was hoping i made a stupid mistake like that. Hey thanks for scanning that
