well the other day one of my hoses bursted and all the coolant drained out...

so I replaced the hose and refilled te coolant and drove home. no problems.

I drove car for about 20 minutes the next day and the needle went up to hot. about 3/4+ the guage and coolant was comiong out of the overflow tube so I was like ok...and I let my car cool and changed teh thermostat

later I drive for about 15 minutes to my gf's house and idled for about 5 and fans were turning on and shit and temp gauage reads dead center the entire time (normally a little lower) then on my way home I boosted a little to see how it would react and the guage started to raise....so I got home and idled in my garage...fans didnt come on. and I saw smoke coming out the front so I shut her off. coolant came out of the overflow and i can hear coolant bubbling.

would a rad fan sensor switch fix the problem?

I had my water pump and HG changed a month ago

tyhanks

hmm, Im thinking maybe your fans arent always kicking on when they should. Check your sensors on your thermostat housing to make sure they are connected good and everything.

There are no "fan sensors" on the Thermostat Housing of a 1G - The Temp Gauge Sensor yes, but Fan Coolant Temp Switch is Lower Rad Passenger Side - IMO you need a new factory Radiator Cap & should properly check your Base Timing if you didn't after the HG Install.

i will have the base timing set today (i twas not done)

and the rad cap will cause my car to overheat? how so?

and yes the fan swuitch is on the radiator.

One of my hoses was cracked and I had an overheat condition and there went my head :( Its in the shop now as they are doing a resurface. My question though is if anyone knows of any stronger Radiator hoses for 1G's? Like the Greddy ones for 2G's...

I haven't seen any hoses other than stock for the 1g, also how much is it costing to get the head resurfaced. Next time you might want to look into buying a used head from a shop hteyre only missing a few things and are only like 400 bux.

Geez man when you take the FREAKING HEAD OFF it does tend to disturb the CAS & therefore Timing - which BTW affects running Temps! Reset Base Idle too of course.

The Rad Cap is also a RELIEF VALVE - so YES - a bad Rad Cap let's coolant OUT to the Overflow Bottle & then the LOW Coolant level causes overheating. OMG

I had my head done when I had my headgasket put in...

how much overheating does it take to warp it?

as for timing, my car was running fine until my hose blew

When a head is resurfaced will it suffer long term "side effects"? In other words... will I see increased tendancy to run hotter or will the head be prone to damage at higher boost levels vs. one that was never touched?

well alitte more of a detailed update...

-I replaced the 'stat with an OEM one...cost me freaking 50 bux!
-filled it up with coolant
-started her up and let her warm up - needle points pretty much stright up
-idled for 10 minutes, drove for 5 minutes, idled for 10 minutes.
-needle dropped slightly.
-fans arent turning on. if I turn the AC on the fans turn on.
-I drive the car for another 10 minutes. near the end of my run the temperatures rise. to about 3/4 so I pull home and turn her off
-pop the hood, everything looks good...overflow is FULL.
-car shuts off (turbo timer) then I hear a loud hissing and bubbling in the overflow. this continues for about 30 seconds.

and now I am here.

what the hell is up?

-edit- I am not blowing any smoke. and my oil isn't milky at all from coolant.

thansk for any help

Just cause coolant goes into the overflow bottle doesnt mean anythings wrong, the purose of the overflow bottle is someplace where leftover coolant can go, now when the coolant leaves your engine its pretty hot so when it enters the overflow it may boil a lil bit. My guess is theres probbaly an air bubble in oyur coolant system. Let the car cool down completely and take the hose out of the overflow and stick it in a bucket, then take rad cap off and start the car up while till its at normal temp and start adding coolant, keep adding coolant untill it stays level or untill all the bubbles are gone, might want to squeeze the upper radiator hose a couple of times too. The reason i suggest to take the overflow hose out and put it in the bucket, is some of the coolant will go in the over flow if you keep adding and you dont want to fill the overflow bottle.

the overflow bottle is warm, not like uber hot. same with the rad. why would my temp guage go nutso?

as for airpockeyts, I am sure you are right.

earlier today when my car was cold, I put some coolant into rad via the rad cap (not fully). and started her up and SPLASH...there is some pressure up my system or something?

Anyone have a diagram of where the overflow bottle goes? I just bought one for my car this weekend... also... I saw that it has a plug on the bottom... where does that connect into?

there is 2 hoses on the overflow...that come off the top. one leads to the ground - the overflow and one goes to your thermostat housing.

that's probably a sensor to tell you your coolant is low. the only important sensors around that area is the one at the bottom of the rad - rad fan swtich

No no when you start it with the rad cap off and some coolant gushes out its a good sign your water pump is working. Now after this hapened did you notice if the coolant level in the hole was going up and down or was it staying level if it stayed level it probbaly isnt an airpocket.

to be honest I was not paying attention. but it did rise once it started to get hot.

i just got mine fixed, i thought maybe i had a thermostat problem but actually i was leaking coolant. My radiator cap was bad, it was decieving, when driving the engine was cool but when stopped it would begin to overheat. It was that simple for me, i never thought it would be.
