I'm looking to get a thin copper head gasket to raise me compression. I know I’ll only get .3-.5 more compression but it's worth it to try it right?
I'm concerned that there will be less slack on T-belt and problems may arise from this. Who has done this?

What is the tickness of the stock head gasket?

Dont worry about the timing belt, that is what the adjustable tensioner pully is for.

If you run a thin headgasket your pistons could make love with your valves.
 
The only lovemaking going on in my car involves me. Do you really think that is a concern, because the difference in thickness is very minor.
 
I wouldn't really think that would be too much of a problem, however the thinner you go with the hg and the more compression and the more power, the more likely you will blow it. Why not just have a little more taken off the head when you have it decked and use a regular gasket?
 
cheap way of making a little more power if you are NA? Why not just turbo the car or at least get high compression pistons if you are going to all motor route?

To get new pistons it is very expensive, about $500. The sce copper gasket will only cost $65. My friend turbod his na and has reliability problems.
I think I'll do it, anyone know how thick the stock head gasket is?
What thickness do you guys think I should go?

How much material is taken off the head and block when they are decked all should be worked into this equation to figure out your headgasket thickness.
 
I think stock thickness is .040", I plan on getting a .030" Cometic gasket because they seal well and don't require an o-ring. Or I'm going to get .010" shaved of my head and buy oem gasket.
 
if you have the head off to do the gasket just get it shaved...... that'd insure it was true anywayz....

Well I plan on getting my gasket this week I just need to make sure my bore size is 85mm. I'm going to go with the cometic .30", hopefully the valves won't touch:confused: or do you guys think I can get away with the .27"? I found out the stock gasket is .45"
 
I think I'm going to order my head gasket today. I'm a bit scared because nobody here has done this on a dsm. I wish someone had experiance with this.
 
That a copper ALWAYS leaks. We have tried them on many cars and they leak no matter what. O-ring the head? Leaks. O-ring the block? Leaks. Get the gasket with the ring material built onto the gasket? Leaks.

The only thing they do properly is leak, thats it.

Copper = Crap.
