Went to the track tonight and ran with 2 gals of C16. On my way home, i was on empty so I pumped about 3-4 gallons of premium 93 octane. Before I went home, I went to a strip of road to time my 1/4 (with my turbo timer).

I launched a few times... and after i'd say about the 2nd or 3rd launch I started getting this loud tick coming from my engine. I've hear this tick before... every once in a long while, and very soft.. but tonight it was loud.. and wouldnt go away! :(

When i got home, i popped my hood... the sound seems to be coming right from under the valve cover. Any idea what this might be, and what's causing it?!?

thanks in advance for any help!

thanks...

any idea why it was doing it so bad last night. I usually does it, nice n quiet for a min or two and goes away.... last night after launching a couple of times on the street... damn, it was louder and didnt go away till i got home. =/

feel like its a problem that is only getting worst!

Easiest way to get rid of it for a long long time:
Replace the lifters. Ain't too expensive and the best solution for the problem.

change your oil, my car and just about every other dsm owner i know gets ticking when you are either low on oil or need it changed, i flushed my engine out with "Gunk" engine flush, put new oil in and the ticking was gone, and it was a nasty ticking too.

it doesnt matter how new your car is, what matters is how bad u beat it, i beat my eclipse pretty good sometimes, but mine dont tick, i change oil every 2000 miles with Mobile 1 5w-30, but thats besides the point

i've heard that a lot of people experienced ticking from mobil 1.... i've also heard that people have had good luck with castrol.. experiment.. see which one your engine likes best.

i have the same tick but it seems to be coming from my throttle body of feul rail cant tell anyone kow what that is

i agree with running tranny fluid. Run 1 quart of tranny fluid and fillit up the rest of the way with Castro synethetic 10w-40. Fill your gas tank at the same time with atleast 93 octane. once you run that tank out change the oil again use the same oil without the tranny fluid. Hopefully that will cure your problem if not time to do a compression test. You might have a lifter that bled down. Try the easy stuff first. Does she idle the same, pull the same?
