Mitsubishi Motors Corporation and Mitsubishi Motors North America Inc. will exhibit 15 vehicles at the 2004 North American International Auto Show (the Detroit Motor Show) which will be held January 4-19, 2004, at the Cobo Center in Detroit.

At the Show, the Eclipse Concept-E hi-performance hybrid will make its world premiere. The concept car is powered by the E-Boost high-performance hybrid propulsion system that delivers exhilarating acceleration as well as low fuel consumption and low emissions performance.

Eclipse Concept-E: Main features

-The Concept-E illustrates ideas from MMC for a near-future high-performance sport model.
-The E-Boost high-performance hybrid power system achieves an ideal balance between sports car acceleration and environmental performance.

Profile

Since its introduction on the North American market, the Eclipse compact sports coupe/convertible series has won wide acclaim for its advanced styling and outstanding driving performance. The Eclipse Concept-E carries the spirit that pulsates through the series to new frontiers. Forcefully projecting a high-performance sports car image, Concept-E also gives graphic expression to MMC's focus on delivering pure driving pleasure with levels of dynamic handling and exhilarating performance approaching those found in the motorsport arena. The E-Boost high-performance hybrid propulsion system combines exhilarating acceleration with low-consumption, low-emissions performance. Inside, Concept-E uses a Deep Video Imaging and Multi-Layer DisplayTM instrumentation display system that imparts a highly futuristic look to the no-frill but sporty interior design.

Exterior design

-Concept-E presents a distinctive front visage featuring the new MMC design identity that is crafted around the three-diamond corporate logo carried on a dihedral base in the center of the grille.
-The long wheelbase, short overhangs and cab forward layout create a highly integrated monolithic form which, with the water drop-design side window graphics, gives Concept-E an aggressive, ready-to-pounce profile.
-Xenon HID headlamps and rear combination lamps, throwing out powerful plasma beams of light, accentuate Concept-E's futuristic appearance and identify its high-power hybrid pedigree.

Interior design

-Concept-E generates a vibrant atmosphere inside through the wave line dashboard that identifies the new MMC design identity and the use of water drop door trim similar in design to that on the current Eclipse.
-New Deep Video Imaging and Multi-Layer Display instrumentation uses two overlapping LCD monitors to create a 3-D viewing angle.

Mechanical features

-Concept-E is powered by E-Boost hybrid system that combines a 3.8-liter MIVEC V6 engine generating 200kW of power and an electric motor to drive the front wheels and a 150kW electric motor to drive the rear wheels. This advanced and clean-emissions system delivers class-topping acceleration for a hybrid vehicle while cutting fuel consumption when compared to other high performance coupes.
-The electric motor is powered by high-efficiency lithium-ion battery packs.
-Concept-E uses a 6-speed automatic manual transmission that allows the driver to choose between the superior transmission efficiency of a manual gearbox or the easy-drive convenience of an automatic transmission.

Mitsubishi is turning the Eclipse into a Beetle wannabe!:thumbdown

How often do the production cars resemble the concept? Rarely. Even the new stang and the concept stang have a ton of differences. So I'm sure we will see something less bubbly and more realistic. I personally am shocked to see how much the car resembles the concept sketches. They are almost exactly the same! I hope they change the front end. It looks to Evo-ish for me.

Trust me it's only a radiator

What, you actually think I read?

It says E-boost and looked like a front mount so I thought it might be boosted.

I stumbled across this link while surfing around. Mitsubishi shows off a concept for their 4G Eclipse. It has AWD, and it has a very unique powertrain. There is a 270hp 3.8L V6 engine powering the front wheels, and an electric motor giving the rear wheels another 200hp for a total of 470hp. They don't say anything about weight, unfortunately. Go check out the pictures; the styling is very new age and aggressive.

Do you really think they'd go back to a 4G63 engine?

They put those in the Evo theres no way they would turbo another Eclipse for sometime.

E-boosted, LOL.

Can't imagine how much this thing is going to cost considering it's a hybrid.

it says E-boos tin the hatch cover? I don't think you saw a front mount in there..... Anyways that car is sick, and i don't mean that in a good way....

I kind of like the car. I'm glad to hear AWD is back. Also, 470hp is definitely nice. Stock 20" wheels is also nothing to scoff at. Granted, the car is probably going to change by the time it hits the market, but if it doesn't change much it looks pretty good.

What I really want to know is if they are going to keep the car at a reasonable weight level. I care too much about handling to buy a 3800 pound car, even if it does have 470hp.

frankly, it looks amazing compared to the 3g eclipse, and if it actually has any power, or handling potential, that will be a welcome development over the 2000+ cars.

Frankly, if you want an AWD 4g63t, go and buy an evo. It's probably going to be ending up priced similarly, and i can't imagine how mitsu will make the 4g handle like an evo....

So...

I think Mitsubishi entered an ugly contest...

If so, they are winning.

E-Boost LMFAO

For all of you that scoff at the electric hybrid portion....... for whatever torque it outputs it, it's instantaneous. If it's 200 ft lbs, it's 200 ft lbs at 1 rpm!!

Anyone see their new truck concept. Pretty styling!!

Anyhow, I've got free tickets. I'm heading there tomorrow morning for a preshowing. It's doesn't officially open to the public until Saturday. Perks of the position!!

I'll get some pics to post. Maybe shots of the rear diff, front mount (if there is one) and such. :thumb:

Has anyone here seen the new Shelby Cobra?

True it is a ford.. but all I can say is.. " " yea im speachless.. My mouth hit the floor when i saw that thing and I sware im the first guy to have 20 orgasums within 5 secounds.
