Can ya spin the fan yerself? Try unplugging it and connect it directly to the battery, it's a 12Volt fan motor and it should run fine like that. If it's hanging, you'r motor's brushes are probably shot. Time for a new one.

if all else fails, you can resort to running new wires. There are fans available that can turn on and off by themselves, without, the ECU needing to toggle them. All you have to do is give them a power source, i have seen many people do this, after they get FMIC's, the fans stay on till the car cools down to what ever temp they set it at (even f the car is shut off)

Not compared to most problems. Only a few things it COULD be, not a huge spectrum of things to check.

DSM's only get easier as time goes on, and you get more of them.
