Ok. I got my first DSM today. It's a 1990 Talon TSI AWD. I bought it not running. The guy I bought it from said that he had bought it from another guy. The first guy told him that he was driving it and it overheated and died. I dont think they ever did anything to it. What do you guys think it could be? He told me he thought it was either the timing jumped or the head gasket. The oil doesn't look milky or smell like coolant. The timing belt is still there. Another question, He said there were 2 different timing belts on the car. Is that true?

Thanks for any help

-Kaleb

Wow!! I hope you didnt pay alot for this car. The problem is it could be a number of things wrong. Sometimes you can look at your timing marks and see if the timing has jumped. As for the timing belt. There is only one. Not many are lucky to have done no damage when the timing jumps. There is a long road ahead of you,but dont give up. It will all work out:thumb: Vfaq can be very useful...Good luck and keep your head up and welcome to the world of DSMs..:)

BOOOOOO:thumbdown
goodluck with that though.. you will liek the car when she runs.. for those 3 weekends out of the year you'll love life hahahah
i'm jsut bein an ass..
take good care of her and u'll be fine
did he give you any details though on what overheated?
did you check see if there was still coolant in rad?
water pump, all that sort of stuff.. can be number of things
what happens when u try to turn it over?

It turns over good. It gets spark and fuel. Just wont start.

About details. All I know is that it overheated on the highway and died. That was about a year ago. It hasn't been started or ran since. I am going to check the timing tomorrow to see if all the marks line up. Hopefully thats it.

-There's only one timing belt, but there's also a balance shaft belt, most part store sell both belts as a package.
-Look at the cam shaft through the oil filler hole as someone is cranking it, they need to be turning, do a compression and /or leak down test.
