I am still getting some pretty bad gas mileage.

I am only getting about 19.7 mpg with mostly city driving shifting at 4k.
I have already replaced my front O2 sensor and am looking to replace the fuel filter.

I have a 99gst with about 55k miles on it. Should my fuel filter already be bad?

What else should I check or change? I have NKG plugs and Accel wires are on the way.

Thanks,
Nathan

The fuel economy of my car sucks. I get only 11mpg. I fill 12 gallons of gas every 135 or so miles. I checked my spark plugs and one of them is kinda burnt and the wire on that burnt plug is bad also. I will need to get them all replaced. I don't think the o2 sensors have ever been replaced since I bought it off a private seller. I'm going broke because of my car.

So my question is... How many miles per gallon do you get? And what can I do to improve my gas mileage? Will replacing the wires, plugs, and o2 sensors make that much of a difference? Or could it be something else? Please help!

That is very poor gas mileage. I get around 275 for a tank with all of my current mods. I am no where near stock, so I should drinking more than you if you are indeed stock.

I would do all of the things you are talking about getting done. If that doesn't solve your problem you can also look at the cat on your car if you are using the stock system.

How many miles are on your car?

i get about 270 miles to the gallon. when i upgraded my blow off valve i vented. stupid mistake. with that i began running super rich and began gettin 200 miles to the tank. then i recirculated and got the mileage back. i read your profile, it says you are stock. since then have u gotten any mods? if u have an aftermarket bov, make sure its recirculated.

also, me being an automatic.... i get less gas mileage than a 5 speed guy would, so if your automatic take that into account as well.

yea how many miles do you have on your car. how often do you go wide open throttle?

I got 95,500 miles on my car. And I've gotten no mods whatsoever.

Even if mine's AWD, the mileage can't be this bad.

What do you mean by the "cat" on my car?

Keep in mind the FWD cars have a larger gas tank so they can go longer on a tank of gas. You will not get anywhere near 270 miles to a tank. I have a heavy foot and drive in alot of stop and go traffic and i get about 225 to a tank. This is on a 96 awd 5speed.

i get ~260 to the tank on my 1.8 and i'm WOT to 5000 all the time :p
what good is driving if you're not accellerating, anyway? ;) :D

Catylitic (sp) Converter; it's the muffler-like thing on your exhaust piping that's under the driver/passenger. It basically slows you down and keeps you emissions legal by 'diffusing' the exhaust gases as they leave your car.

i get over 300 usually, but i drive it till the low-fuel light comes on.
Usually around 22-23 MPG City and around 30 Highway.

search for mccc treatment ( mopar combustion chamber cleaner ) try that, it WILL HELP A LOT. Also replace the pcv valve. get a new air filter. change your fuel filter while your at it. Going broke LOL.... what dsmer' isn't

I have a 1G but I get the same exact gas mileage. O2, wires, plugs, were all for not. I just live with it.

whats the gas mileage city and highway? $10 can get me how much? cuz im hoping to save a shitload from my 8cy jeep when i get a dsm.

$20 a week=too much for college student!

10 dollars will get you the same amount of gas it will on any car. 23/31 estimated.. results will vary.

You don't have to use premium, but it is recomended. Untill you start modding, you can just run regualr 87 octane, won't hurt it.

I don't know about that man but I was being cheap one day and decided to put 89 octane in and my car was running like shit and this was back then when I only got a lower intercooler pipe. Next time I filled my tank I made sure it was premium I mean theres a reason why on the dash gauge and gas cap door it saids premium unleaded only.

When I first got my car I only used 87 because I couldn't afford 91. Nothing went wrong, I'm sure that's what the previouse owner used too, and I'm sure most people who just use DSM's as a commuting vehicle who arnt enthusiests use 87. I know for a fact that my 1991 Talon doesn't say premium unleaded, maybe a sticker was taken off or something, what about the other 1G's on here? Do you have a premium unleaded sticker?

we'll I'll be dam didn't know you could get away with regular unleaded on the 1g turbo, but still it should be recommended to use premium though thats if the original poster meant gas for a turbo....

Using lower than 91 Oct on a DSM will induce more knock because the gas is thicker and is detonating (not bad) at a later time. More knock means more ECU timing retarding.

Keep that in mind.

alright so what gas mileage should i be expecting? how much does it cost for a full tank of premium? im looking at like 35 now for my jeep so i hope its less than that at least
