ok, i bought an HID kit today and installed it. complete plug and play system. it uses hella ballasts and 7500k burners. anyway, i got it all plugged up. tried it out... nothing. they flash, but don't stay on. so we checked the ground connections, power connections, and everything. nothing worked, it would just flash (not ALWAYS flash, you had to wait a while inbetween trying) and that was it. well, i thought maybe my battery was ####ed so i went to autozone and dumped $75 on a battery (my old battery was toasted anyway, corrosion everywhere, not pretty). anyway, new battery goes in. nothing. they just flash and don't stay on. well, i said screw it, went to dinner with my brights (bet that pissed people off!) and then came home. after talking to a friend with a 300ZX, he said he had to switch the wires in his headlight harnesses to get the relay to trip correctly. said his was doing the exact same thing, so he changed them and they worked. when i got home, i pulled my car in the garage and swapped the wires in each headlight harness. tried the lights again, and same thing. they just flash, only brighter. well, my dumb ass friend destroyed the fuse for one of the ballasts so i could only test one at a time. i turned the car on and flipped the headlights on, and nothing. turned them off, and back on, and the driver's side one fired up. and stayed lit! about shit my pants at the cool blue glow. anyway, i turned them off and let them sit for about 30 seconds and turned them back on, and the driver's side wouldn't come back on. ok... now i'm just pissed. swap the good fuse (i didn't have any 20amp fuses sitting around and it was too late to go to autozone by this time) into the holder for the other headlight. now that one would flash, but won't fire up and stay on. swap the fuse back. driver's side will work SOMETIMES but not all the time.

my friend said it sounds like the ignitor is firing but the ballast isn't keeping the burner going. i don't know what to do, i'm kinda pissed at this point that i just spent $425 on HIDs and they don't work. does anybody have any suggestions?

Just curious as to where you got these kits from b/c last I heard, it was "illegal" to sell / ship these HID kits for the time being..

friend of mine got them like a year and a half ago and never put them on.

since when was it illegal? i have a bunch of magazines that post adds about hid kits.. what states is it illegal in if it even is so? i was hoping to get a kit soon because i love the hid on my friends audi...

Ive always wanted HID's in my 92. But I never wanted to pay the price. Im wondering if there is any kind of stock HID's from another vehicle that I can modify to fit my headlights?

last time i checked, this was a thread about MY HIDS not working... please try to not fill it up.

Ok a-hole. It was a simple question. What am I supposed to say, Oh no your HID's arnt working boo freakin hoo.

maybe bi*** about it in another thread. last time i checked, retrofiting a completely different housing from another car was a whole other ball game than just a kit for stock headlight housings.

You guys are acting like children. This is not YOUR thread, it is a thread which is open to all users. The two were HID related but if the other guy is serious he needs to make a new thread to get the rest of the masses to respond to him. No need to bi*** and complain.

Your friend more then likely had the same problem and that is why he never installed them within that year. I would confront your friend about the condition and then contact the manufacturer. I am sure they have had the problem before and know exactly how to correct it. Then come back on and tell the rest of us :thumb:

When I installed my Xenons it said something about maximum power output for lights. I think you're running well over the limit, you might want to check some info sights. Btw if you install these people will be even more pissed at you then when you drove with your high beams on.

i realigned my headlights so the HIDs aren't going to blind people, and it's a 7500k burning temp... that's not going to blind people either. they really aren't that bright.

but anyway, no the kit was NEVER installed. the ballasts, bulbs, and all the other equipment was still in the vacuum sealed bags.

i'm not running over the limit i don't think because the stock headlight harness is just used to trip the relay for the ballast... so i don't see why that would mess up my stock wiring or anything. the power is wired directly to the battery and the ground is wired to the same ground for the battery... just a chassis ground.

So you've got hella ballasts. Are the burners Hella Also.?

Also, I know you said you rechecked your grounds but did you try moving the grounds to a different location.?

I bet the initial current draw on the OEM wiring is too great; do this:

Rewire the power to the ballasts. Get 2 relays and have a direct line (fuse protected) from the battery to the relay. Have the OEM headlight wires TRIGGER the feed from the battery to the ballasts.

that's how the kid utilizes the stock headlight wiring... the stock headlight wiring simply trips the relay. these HIDs are only a 35W draw, while our stock headlights are a 55W draw.

read my original post again. you can see that it says the stock headlight wiring trips a relay.

I must have skimmed over the relay section too fast.

I wonder if that 35W draw is all the time. I am sure it spikes upon start up. Have you checked your voltages? It is weird that both of them do not light. If it was a bad balast I would assume only 1 would be bad.. the chances of 2 are pretty slim.

Did you check the connections to the bulbs? Perhaps it's a bad contact.

Try running a single wire directly from the battery to the ballast. In fact do this for both the pos and negative. Triple check you grounds. It
wouldn't hurt to run a ground from the battery. Have someone else check things also. It's easy to overlook things when you think it's correct.

I would try to contact the company and find out what they have to say. Tell them what you have done, they might send you replacement ballasts.

My wife's HIDs did that as well when I had the wired to the low beam relay.

I rewired them to the high beam and they stayed on for some reason... so I kept them there. I rewired the fogs to be on with the accessory (a la sidemarkers) and it works great.

If only I could get them to fit her projectors correctly.

Thought I would fill up your thread some more, LOL.

This is what your lights would look like if they were working. :p
