Well here are some pics, he is not sure if the turbo has been changed, also we ran 10psi yesterday and the intercooler hose disconnected in the middle...he's going to connect it better and we will run probably 14psi max.

It looks newer than everything around it, but take off the intake pipe and get a pic of the blades.

Look for a tag on the compressor housing. Get the numbers off it.

Please tell me how you think its better?

Flow #s?

If your idea of hot air at 15psi is a better turbo then so be it but let others know that you like hot air turbos when telling them its "better".

Then read this quoted from above the reply box.

"Don't give any technical advice unless you have first-hand experience on the subject."

WHere would i find the compressor housing? Sorry im new to DSMs - and dont YET own one :D

I think he was comparing a T25 to the 13B in the auto 1g. At least I'm praying thats what he meant since he said he's running a 14B on his 2g:D

its a 14b. I say that because of the ring clamp on the exhaust housing. That is the old style which means its most likely a 14b. Newer turbos have a slightly different ring clamp. But check the compressor blades.

What should my friend be running (boost) for everyday driving? Thanks.

If this is a 14B, what psi do you guys think my friend should run? Here are the mods:

- Intake (dont know what kind)
- Braided Radiator Hose
- Intercooler pipe
- 2.5 Exhaust (downpiping etc)
- Upgraded Fuel system (dont know what kind)
- HKS EVC Boost Controller
- Guages

I think thats it, what is safe amount to run? he is currently running 11 - thanks.

Ok simple fact is that Garrett Turbos are known for being more reliable than the mitsu turbos. Not slammin on TDO's but Garrett is a company that specializes in turbo technology. If you look at the hp rating and flow rated they appear simular, but if you drive an AT 1G and a AT 2G the feel of the pull is different... IMO the T25 pull a bit harder than the 13B on the bottom end, and boost falls off less on the top end...In addition it is more reliable...

The Starion had it first and Mitsu has progressed to this point...Ask any experienced turbo tuner, and they will tell you
"TDO5H-13B is good, but if given the choice the T25 is better.

Funny thing is that the SRT-4 uses a TDO4-16G...Small exaust turbine but large compressor turbine...And it makes shit loads of power both on the bottom and top end. Oh and 20G's also come in TD06...:D

Oh yeah one more thing...Yes....T series turbos do run hotter, but that is why they make intercoolers! If the TD04-13B was in fact the better turbo than why didn't Mitsu use it on the 2G. In addition to being comparable in size to the T25 it would have also been cheaper since Mitsu makes the TD04-13b...Fact is that Mitsu wanted a car that spooled faster and the T25 was a proven plateform...Like I said it is used in the 300zx twin turbo and Silvias' SR20DET...Need I say more.

Oh and AWWWW as for your quote. I do have experience in this...I had a 1G AT, And I have a 2G also...Plus I had a Starion, a 86 Daytona that had the 13B, and 89 Shelby Daytona with the same. Plus a 280z Turbo, and Buick Regal Grand National Turbo that both had Garretts that I did the swaps on myself. So I have Knowledge of what I'm saying... ;)

One last thing... Sorry about getting off the subject...I think it is a 14B due to the ring clamp and the small "J" pipe..IMO if someone spent the money to upgrade to a 16G or bigger they would have spent the 25 extra green backs to upgrade to the bigger "j" pipe. Unless they do not have "First hand knowledge of the subject!"

Thanks for answering my question Larry :thumb:

Thnx Rubicant.

No prob...IMO I wouldn't run above 16psi until you either got an S-AFC (costs BTWN $100-$300 on EBAY),or ran 100-104 octaine..Your OBD-I so you may be able to run a little higher octaine.

Only by having exhaust and intercooler piping and fuel system upgrade u should be able to run safely up to 18 if he has a fuel pump if not no more than 15 if he does have a fuel pump and you decide to run 18 PSI's you have to get an Air/Fuel Ration Gauge if it runs Lean lower the boost and get an Apexi S-AFC which would probably be the most important upgrade for your car for now.

True but if the weather get too warm he will heat soak the smic and get knock OMG 16 PSI is "SAFER" all the way around...:dsm:

I am wondering if anybody could tell me what turbo they think this is.

Give us some numbers from off the housings. Also look for Garret/AIresearch/Turbonetics/etc. We need more information. Any idea what it came off of?
