I painted mine on my car but I cracked the piece while taking it off wish I wouldnt even have messed with it:mad:

Yeah, it's just a time consuming thing to do. You have to be careful doing it, so you don't mess it up.

It's just like people re-arranging the letters on ECLIPSE to say SPEED

My friend has that, and I think it looks pretty sweet. :thumb:

Question,

Some DSMs have the rear center tail light match painted to their rides. Do u just paint directly over the light or is there something out there u can buy that replaces the stock light?

Thanks

paint directly over it. With the proper prep work of course.

I use outdoor vinyl with carbon fiber design on it. It makes up with my tyc elegante tail lights perfect match

so what would be the proper way to do this? rattle can? or sanded primered and painted?. or could i use that blackout can crap

Just so that you know (maybe you already do).. it is just a reflective Red panel.. you can pop it right out with some bolts under the interior plastic panel.. then prep and paint it.. it is pretty easy to do

Sand, primer, paint, and clear it as stated above.

i didnt prime

still looks flawless. go buy a quart of your paint base and activator, then your clear and activator. yeah, costs quite a bit, but it looks freakin beautiful!

Primer is what mates the paint to the material. If you don't use a primer then your paint can chip, bubble or peel. It doesn't cost much for the primer just make sure you match the color of primer to your car (silver to light color and black to dark color primer). Good luck!

The proper way is sand it, prime it, sand it, paint it, sand it, clear it, sand it, buff it.

We're getting all technical now. Why don't you explain to all of us in detail the full process and what grit sand paper we are to use. Don't just half ass it.

you could also have it laminated in "real" carbon fiber...even have the key hole shaved off :) That is how I did mine.

I had mine painted when i got the car painted. I am not sure what method they used but it looks good and is lasting. It looks really good with the carbon fiber altezzas.

This also looks good on Talon's....I hated that middle reflective part.
I agree....Sand (320 grit or so), Prime, Sand (i used (500 grit), Paint, Sand (1000 grit), Clear
This will eliminate bubbling, cracking, peeling, etc long term. Why do it over again? Do it right!

Don't wax, buff, etc for 24-48 hrs.

anyone ever do this to a 1G, say a 93 eclipse? the strip in the middle going horizontal is going to match, but what abut the whole center peice?

I know, if nobody wanted to, there wouldnt be so many damn threads about this topic :thumb:

Take it in to a body shop and have them paint and prime it. Not that spendy and its guaranteed to be the right color too

It's nothing new is what I am getting at. Around '99 when I started getting into cars my friends civic was all done up in yellow and he had his center tail light painted to match. The idea went through my mind but I enjoy the all red across the back. You might have been the first person on the dsm boards to brag about it but not the first to do it.
