What blow-off valve should i get for my car? I was leaning more towards a TurboXS Type-H RFL but i don't know if it it's the best one to get. What do you think?

Justin

make sure its one u can recirculate wen the time comes wen u finally realize u shouldnt vent ur BOV ;) 1g bov, greddy type s, hks ssqv w/ recirculation piece, turbo xs h34, etc.. just to name a few that recirculate.. that rfl wont recirculate and trying to ghetto-fab a piece is just putting u in a situation u couldve prevented if u picked one that can recirculate in the first place..

hey how come its so bad for our cars if you dont recirculate the bov? because the kid that had my car b4 me didnt recirculate it and now that i started to recirculate i dont see much of a difference?
:talon:

Some cars hate venting, others dont. Im not gonna say its good, but i vent on weekends w/ no side effects.

BTW - I have the greddy s.......love it vented and recirc......i recommend it.

Venting is when the Dumptube is disconnected to the intake leaving the air to just escape the intake system. And recirculated is when you have the tube connected.

Take a look at your 2g stock bov and you can see the weird shaped tube going back toward your intake accordian. That means it is recirculated.

My friend and I were arguing about something, I have the Greddy Type-S and I love it, especially the nice pssst sound it gives off. He said the 1g's don't make any noise at all, I was wondering if that is true or if you can hear the 1g's provided you have an intake? Obviously sound isn't a priority, we just argue about stuff like that and I'm just curious.

I hear my 1g :) I do have a DejonTool intake pipe.

Thanks Lando. My friend is being a jerk so if one more person would answer I would appreciate it, thanks.

I am not being a jerk, I just want to make sure that I am wrong.

Noob Questions:

Non recirculated BOVs have no Intake Pipe?
Recirculated BOVs are better on gas?
Should a BOV be recirculated right away?
If it isnt recirculated does it improve performance?
If it isnt recirculated does it harm the engine/turbo more?

Thanks.

Although i have a stock 1g BOV on my talon, I will give these questions a shot, please anyone feel free to correct me.
Although a non-recirculated (Vented) BOV may sound cool, it does to my knowledge bring 2 main problems.
1. You have a crappy idle
2. You run pig rich during shifts, so yes i would assume re-circ, is better on gas.
If it isnt recirculated it wont improve performance, you will just get the pssssssht sound everyone loves. I dont know if a vented BOV harms the engine or turbo. sorry.
hope i helped.

So basically a Vented BOV is only good for sound? Why not get a recirculated BOV that makes sound (maybe its quieter but still).

Am i correct? only advantage to a non recirculated BOV is sound?

If you couldn't hear the BOV more when it was vented, NO ONE would vent. So yes, you're correct. It's purely for sound--and plain stupid.
I tried it on my Laser 5 minutes ago to reinforce everyone else's opinion about venting... though it turned some heads, it made me look worse when the car kept dying on me.

hehe alright, so there are a few BOVs out there that make a noticeble sound even when recirculated?

Recirculating the air to the Turbo will help prolonged the life of your turbo by keeping the turbine spinning instead of stop spnning right away after you mashed on the gas pedal.

Nearly, but no. Actually, not even nearly. It's when you _release_ the gas, and it doesn't "stop" the turbine, but it does make it try to force air against a closed throttle plate. Put you hand over the outlet of a vacuum cleaner for the effect.

After putting an Ingen intake on my car the BOV whoosh is VERY noticable, before and after I replaced my 2g bov with a 1g. Passengers in my car who don't know what it is are somewhat alarmed thinking that something is going to blow up.

I don't know why anyone would want more sound than that.

As I always say, YOU DO HAVE SIDE EFFECTS IF YOU VENT. They are not very noticible at all. You won't bog at idle, of course, because your BOV is aftermarket and sealed at idle. So all you will see is ruined plugs, o2 sensors, bad gas mileage, and bad accel after shifting because you run pig rich after each shift.
