Does anyone have any instructions (step by step for DUMMIES) on how to remove the air condition system?

-I never use it anyways. (If it's hot, I'm scared I'll overheat car, if it's cold, I wouldn't dare LOL
-What benifits will I get for removing it?

Thanx,
DeathBeast

screw that. you can get away with it in florida but it gets well under 20* here in the winter. and seeing as how i bought the awd to drive in the winter this is a no brainer.

i never said it was for eveyone LOL in your case id leave it in but i have no reason for it i have windows so all i need to do is stay cool

look at the picture here for all the stuff i removed im going to weight it but it started raining as soon as i took the picture (florida 4 ya) when moving it all out the take the pic i relized the stuff under the dash is twice as heavy as the stuff under the hood, but ill soon know 4 sure

i think you can remove everything under the hood and still have a heater as long as u keep the two water lines running to it

under hood stuff weighs 31lbs under dash stuff weighs 27lbs and if anyone cares the cruise control weighs 6lbs

i think ill look into pulling the dash and seeing if i can keep the heater. itll have to be a day when im really bored though:)

I'm looking to remove the ac unit out of my 1g gsx. What have you taken out. What have you left. Any benefits, is it worth the time?

Hey, i took my AC system out of the car. So if you want to do so just follow these simple Steps

1) First you need to discharge all the freeon or whatever you call that refrigerant. To do so, find the little valve next to the power steering reseviour. It sotra looks like a valve stem for a tire. You need to release the crap inside. My opinion do it outside cause its not the best for ur health.

2) Take off the AC belt

3) Once thats done, start to disconnect the hoses, there is one going from the AC compresson to the condensor, then one from the condenser to the firewall (Next to the fuel filter)

3) After you do that, i would do the AC compressor next, but you could take out the condensor next, its your choice. Disconnect the clips, or harness that is attatched to the compressor.Get under the car, and look for the bolts that hold the AC compressor to the little bracket thats its bolted to the Block. Be carefull at this point that you dont drop the compressor on ur face.

4) If you want to take out the bracket thats it bolted to the block you can, I did.. but if your going to put it back in the car... then leave it!

5) If you want to make ur job alot easier and ALOT less painfull, take off the front bumper cover, you will need to access the condensor at this point, that is if you are going to take it out....

6) take off the bolts that hold the condesor to the chassis. Make sure not to damage the power steering line which cools the fluid. After you are done with that, replace the front bumper cover and your good.

This job took me about 45 mins, its really not hard to take it apart, i think we wighed all the stuff in at 30-50 pounds, thats with everything in the AC system removed!

Good luck!

Yeah, this is my VERY FIRST post, so I'll let you in on the details....Back in Nov. or so of last year, I bought a 92 Talon TSi AWD 5spd with 89k miles...The car had a broken timing belt so I decided to get a new cylinder head and buy a rebuild kit for the block from either Slowboyracing or MachV. Well, I've pulled the old head, bought a new one and I'm fixing to pull the block.....My question is can I remove my A/C compressor and charge lines for GOOD while I'm doing all this work....I'd like to free up the weight and engine bay space but I wasn't sure If my A/C belt went to something that made it a necessity...Thanks in advance for the help....and oh yeah, thanks for having me...peaaaaace

rip it all out....i took all of it out when i did my rebuild. saves like 20 pounds or somethin...

If you want, paint the compressor like silver and put it on ebay as a high performance civic A/C "charger""+25hp!!!"...some stupid ricer will buy it LOL

thanks fellas....will yank 2morrow...peaaace

Have you ever owned a car without A/C??? I don't think bay space and a couple pounds are worth being comfortable in the summer. Think about it.... I will never own another car without it.

I dunno performance nuts will do it. The new Lancer EVO RS comes sans AC and when people do sr20det engine swaps in socal they almost always pull the ac

It saves like 40lbs, you free up power from the engine, gives you more space and it gives better airflow for the radiator. Ive only had the car since fall and havnt drove in the summer yet but if it gets to hot and i cant take it anymore i can always go back, it seems worth it to me. O and if you drive with the windows down then AC is pointless and im a sunroof and windows open all the time kinda person even when its fairly cool out it just kinda feels better to me then being closed up in a box. I can see where no AC would suck alittle if your out on a really hot day and stuck in traffic, i guess ill have to find out for myself if the vent is good enough to get by on.

follow the lines -- its in the front of the bay

you can also loose the a/c fan if ya really want. but that is nice to have some extra cooling.

Lol Me too. I'll have the heat on with the windows down and roof open. I too don't like feeling enclosed and i love to have the sunlight inside. That's why i'm gettin a spyder GST once i can afford to have 2 cars.
