Does anyone have any instructions (step by step for DUMMIES) on how to remove the air condition system?

-I never use it anyways. (If it's hot, I'm scared I'll overheat car, if it's cold, I wouldn't dare LOL
-What benifits will I get for removing it?

Thanx,
DeathBeast

it's pretty straight forward the only thing i don't know is how to correctly drain the system, i just pull the hose off and let the $hit spray out, but there may be a corredt way to do it LOL

you basically want to take the compressor off the back of the block along with the pulleys that go along with the AC belt, remove the condensor which is behind the radiator and you will also remove all the lines that run from the condensor to the compressor...it's pretty simple once u start taking it apart, all the AC parts are connected together at some point, u just disonect them, unbolt and pull out
now i know the AC hose connects to the firewall and goes into the car, i dunno whats in the car that u can take out, i never attempted that part, hopefully someone else can aswer taht part for me

the only gain you get from doing this is the weight savings which some say is about 30-40lbs maybe even 50 but don't quote me on that

GOODLUCK!

yea i am considering doing it also. main reason mine does not work and i am short on money for it to be replaced/fixed. does any one know of a real STEP BY STEP guide? not saying you didnt exlpain your self well. its just i would like to know EVERYthing i would have to do before i start. thanks for you help. kyle

before i bought my talon from my friend "under contruction" he took the liberty to remove the whole a/c system...hopefully the performance will be decent because it's gunna be a hot summer in my black on black talon.

I actually did this a few days ago to install my FMIC.

Basically, look at the radiator looking thing in front of the real radiator. That is a part of the A/C

What I did is I loosened on of the bolts near the bottom and the stuff sprayed all over. I then took off both bolts for the piping on each side, and I undid the bolts holding the metal peices which hold the radiator down. I then undid the canister looking thing on the a/c core and removed the a/c core. Now I followed the a/c lines and each time I saw a place I could unscrew them apart I did. I undid them at the firewall and behind the engine, which was a pain in the ass to get to.

I didn't take anything else out..maybe there is more? I know there is more in the dash, and maybe the condenser part I missed.

I would say the lines and the core were maybe 15-20lbs. I need to get that condenser out of there now...

you can do it. take out the 10mm bolts that hold the wiring harness to the manifold, remove the fuel return line and that will make alot of room for you.

ok you may gain 15hp at MOST that is still alot for just the ac. All you have to do is take the belt off and the crank doesnt have to turn it anymore. That is waht makes it worth it not the weight...which is about 10lbs at most. With it off will give the crank less stuff to be rotated the wieght will help but that you wont feel. good luck I dont agree with itr but go ahead.

Although removing the belt from the A/C compressor pulley will give the most of your performance gains due to less drag on the crank, but once you remove you A/C compressor, condensor, and evaporator and lines, you have well over 20 pounds saved. Now this isn't a WHOLE lot of weight but this is one of the best ways to clean up your engine bay! My '90 Talon AWD has had the A/C system removed, came from the factory w/o ABS, and soon i will purchase a non-cruise control throttle cable to eliminate my Cruise control. You can also reroute your battery to your trunk, but i haven't put to much thought into that one...yet. In my opinion, if you don't use your A/C alot, and plan on keeping your car, take it out, you can always find people on classified ads and the trader that are selling complete a/c systems if you trash yours.

thats the reason i did i too. my car now has no a/c, PS, or cruise control. it came from the factory in rare no P/W, no P/L from the factory. i pulled the front and rear bumpers adn it only weighs 2920 with 1/4 tank of gas and no driver. i can work on the car now NO PROBLEM. so much more room in there it is unbelievable. i have to put a clutch in in a couple of weeks and im actually looking forward to it:)

yeah I agree not alot of wieght but if you dont use it then go right ahead. I rarely use mine....but there are those days when its too hot for windows and sunroof open. Plus I ran 14.9 at the track with it off and 15.1 with it on so really not enough difference without it. but good luck Ive driven cars and seen cars with it out and it does give you that extra umph.

While I had my head off I went ahead and pulled my A/C. Everything together weighed 35lbs, lines, bolts, brackets, compressor, condenser...

I would not want to try pulling the compressor with the intake manifold on the car..

How is it driving around w/o PS? I want to make my talon realy light but i don't think that i would want to sacrafice PS.

Are these cars track only cars? Cause I just watched a trans am race today and one of the racers intentionally sat out three laps to get his power steering working. If Im right we have rack and pinion steering which isnt so good without the pressure provided to move the rack. If it is...Im all for it, otherwise Id like to say itll be tough steering. But with both systems off there should be substantial gains in torque and hp with some losses in wieght.

well, lets put it this way, my wife is 5'4" and 120 lbs. she drives it every day. only complaint really is parking. just make sure that you run a hose between the inlet and outlet of the rack so that fluid can move around and it wont lock up. it took a little while after i did it but it really seemed to get alot easier after awhile. dont know if i just got used to it or what. i weighed it at one of the many truck stops here in reno.

I would have figured it would be near impossible unless on the highway.

not even close. youd have to be an absolute p*ssy to not be able to drive it that way. if my wife can do it ANYBODY can do it. i dont regret it AT ALL:thumb:

i did mine i took everything out even under dash, what are you all using to plug the holes in the fire wall?

how hard was that? how much do you think all the under dash stuff weighed? enquiring minds want to know!

im at work now but tomorrow morning ill weigh and take pictures of it all the dash was a total biatch to get out but it was worth it the compressor was major pain to get out i did it from them passenger side with the battery out and the intercooler pipes off, i had to lay on the abs unit to get down there with my hand I cant jack up the car right now for other reasons so this was my only way and the bolts were very tight all thats left is the compressor support and its held on by two bolts that i cant budge so im gonna have to soak them down with liquid wrench and try again

everything is connected under the dash once you get under there its 3 large black boxes that connect together just pull everything connected to them out ill add pix of my pile'o'a/c when i weight it
