Everyone that I talked to on the Starion forums and such, say that 400ft lbs is about the limit of the stock unit. Whether or not there are any "upgrades" to help strengthen it, is still unknown to me. The other reason I chose the Toyota unit, is that I would have to do something like you and put the Starion unit in the MM case. I thought this would be just as much trouble, so I went this route. I also considered the wide block 4G engines, but I couldn't find one. I'm planning a 7-bolt 2.4L in case none of you have read back that far. I may switch to a stock 2.0L at some point if I have too many traction issues ;) I finally got the old motor pulled and I'm hoping to have something going soon. Wish everyone luck. Post any progress or findings. This has helped a couple people that I've heard from. :thumb:

PS. If the small block motor bolts to the Fiero bellhousing, that would lead me to believe the adaptor plate will work. All small blocks, and the straight six for sure, have the same bolt pattern going back to the first units in the 50s.

From 4 posts above:

No, Fiero uses 60 degree V6 pattern. It is not the same as SBC. Case and point, SBC kits for Fiero require an engine adaptor.

In case you didn't know, SBC = Small Block Chevy...

the sbc doesn't bolt up the trans i was refering to doesn't either- (twas not a fiero trans) u need a plate- is there a way to use BOTH plates to make this work or is that a pipe dream?
