I just got a 135 amp beefed up alternator from alterstart that is perfect fitment for my 95 Turbo. I need this for the 2,000 watts of amps i'm running. Will this 135 amp alternator cause any problems, for example, blow main fuses or anything else? As long as its 135 amp but puts out 12-14 volts i should be fine? Can someone enlighten me on this subject?

Yes you are correct. It will put out the same amount of voltage, and can sustain 135 amps of current draw.

Old, I know, but how is your AlterStart alternator working out? Did you run new wires and did you have to change fuses to higher ampere?

I'm interested in this too. I had an old oem alterator rebuilt and beefed up and it only lasted a couple months.

Is yours still working?

I am also interested in an upgraded alternator.

I visited www.4alterstart.com and they only have high-output alternators for 1G DSMs and 2G N/T DSMs. So... did you get the 1G alternator?

You could upgrade the wire from the B+ terminal to the alternator fuse, get a larger fuse to match the increase in current, and run a bigger wire to the battery.

Running a ground wire from the negative terminal to the alternator mount might be a good idea as well.

So nobody has blown fuses after using an alternator of this size? Considering that everything is sized for the stock alternator (90 amp I believe) its hard to believe that nobody has either blown a fuse or burnt their car to the ground :nono:

As was said above, upgrading to a larger AWG wire is definately a good idea with this mod... And yes, the ground wire should be the same size as the B+ wire.

Why would it? An alternator will only put out however much the car's systems need. It doesn't just crank out max amps because it can.

Pointless.

Your absolutely correct. But who's to say that they arent running big car stereo amplifiers or other added accesories? Thats what im talking about. And also, if you are upgrading the B+ wire you need to upgrade the ground wire as well is all I was trying to say.

I have been running this alternator on my 1G for 6 months and have had no problems.

You won't have a problem with blowing fuses. I've had mine for 2 years now.

Two years going and aside from one rebuild due to a crankcase pressure issue blowing oil out the dipstick onto the alt, its been great since adding a splatter shield.

The alt does not draw that much more current to blow the fuse, no worries.

There was only a .4 volt difference from the alt to the battery. Not sure if its worth upgrading to the bigger alt wire.
