Ok. I want to buy an eclipse. Body style of the 97-99 models. BUT I dont know which trim to get. RS, GS, GS-T, GSX.

I have a very limited budget but I really want an eclipse. I intend on using it as a daily driver. I also want a little kick to it.

What is the cheapest way to get this? buy an RS or GS and put a turbo in it? or what? Cause I am obviously going to have to get a car over 100k miles. I also heard that GS-T's over 100k need new turbos.

oh yea, and it HAS to be 5-spd.

I think those are all of my requirements.

I dunno. Hopefully you understand what I am looking for and can help me out.

Thanks,
Ry

I would personally go with either the gst ot gsx. They have much better performance potential then the rs/gs.

You can find a good turbo care for a decent price. You might as well buy a turbo car already then mess with one without. Check the classifides on here I'm sure it willl have something for you. Good luck:thumb:

First off, go ahead and get a gst or gsx. The classifieds on this site is a great place to start looking. THE most important thins is to TAKE YOUR TIME, dont rush into a car becuase you think you have to have one right away. That never works out. Look for something obviously in your price range but try to find a car with the most paper work as possible. Chances are the guy that has kept up with his/her reciepts is the one who probably kept up with the maintence as well. If someone says "this car has this and that brand new" and dont have reciepts for it, its probably not true. For instance if I buy and new tranny, you dont think Im gonna keep my paper work on that tranny? Of course I am.

If you are looking for something that will eventually be a beast on the quartermile, go with a gsx. If you are looking for more of a fast daily driver, then i would go with a gst

I highly recommend not buying a non turbo DSM, if you want to have a little kick to it. Since you on a tight budget but also want the latest body the GS-T would be the best choice. Pro-a little cheaper, less stress on drivetrain, CON-WWD(wrong wheel driveLOL). AWD is the only way to go!!!!!!!

hmm. alright. thanks alot.

what's a good mileage for these cars?

I mean obviously lower is better. But what do I not want to go over?

Haha, I would probably want to do a compression test to make sure that the engine is in a decent range. Other then that lowest you can find I would say.

i was like you a couple years ago, if you're going to get an eclipse, get a gst/gsx.. trust me and everyone who bought a rs/gs and ended up selling it for a gst/gsx, me included... i just didn't feel like a real DSMer with my RS. because a lot of people who own rs/gs's on the road don't even know what DSM stands for.

don't really pay attention to mileage, although you should... try and get a compression test if you can, also check if the person has papers of maintenance, the most important is the timing belt.. the 1g i just bought with 170k on the clock runs better than the 2g i had with 80k on the clock.. maintenance is key, not mileage.

good luck with your buy.. oh and if you ARE buying a non-turbo model.. get the GS, because the RS does not come with sideskirts.

Like the users stated above, you should get a GST or GSX. I know they are rare now, but if you can find one BONE STOCK you will be much better off.
