That is a good find. In the first link, the car that is in there that Doug Derby had is the one I currently own. There is also a picture of my car in the dsport article as well sporting the evo 8 rims. Almost everyone one of these we have hanging on our shops walls. Thats some funny stuff. Here's a link to what it looks like now.

Man that's an awesome find, DSM's don't grace the cover of car magazines anymore. As a matter of fact I haven't seen an article on a DSM in a long time.:thumb:
 
Yeah... it kinda sucks like that. We were never really all that "flashy" like Hondas, "end all be all of performance" like RX-7's, Supras, and Skylines, and now with the EVO, we are the old 4g63's with problems (we got "replaced"). so we were never as "big" as the others were.

Oh well. Kinda makes you feel almost like the underdog... except a very bad mofo underdog.

I think it is awesome that almost all of those guys in the top ten list were running a 20G. So many people today need the biggest and badest turbo out to run much slower.

That was back when I was 16 and could only DREAM about having a DSM. (I had a '93 Cavalier - go mousepower).

Yeah, 20G turbos. That's just great. Thread of the month right here!!
 
This doesn't look like a "find" to me... I have a feeling he had the magazines and took the time to scan and post up all those pics for us on a site so we can look at this.

So thanks not for the find, but the work you put into that, pretty cool
 
Thanks for the comments guys! I did scan all of these in actually. It was a fun project for a rainy afternoon.

Also, boostedinaz, excellent observation about the 20g. These guys didn't have many of the advantages that we have today and they were still pounding out the numbers. Maybe that's why I love my 20g so much.

I was more taken aback by the injector size some of them were running in the first link...I saw 550s/560s in there. People just stuff the biggest injectors they can these days and dump loads of fuel. Granted they were running race gas, but still getting times like that out of only slightly larger injectors is impressive.

Thanks for taking the time to scan those...good read; now I'm excited for the Shootout.

I also noticed Shep's red Talon was tunning with a VPC and AFC combo and going 10's.


Would be intertesting to see what these guys could have done with the some of the stuff we have now. Back then if a 30523065 was available how fast could they have gone? Or if they had DSMlink and the trusty 20G how much more could they have squeaked out of it?

somewhere around here i have a motor trend magazine from 1991 where they tested an hks 1g gsx. car had a 16g making around 280whp, they FLOGGED it. if i can find it, ill scan it up.
