my friend has a 92 with the 1.8 and the car can not even make it round the block now with out boilint the coolent anyone have any ideas on where to start looking?

change the coolent. check your fuses, and see is the fans are unplugged or just not working

water pump shot??? belts tight, or even there? Take out your thermostat and place it in a pot and bring it to a boil. Place a high temp thermometer in and see what temp it opens at, if it even opens. If it doesnt open at the specified temp, then toss it in the garbage and buy a new one.

Definately change the thermostat. Cost is about $6, it's easy to change, they do wear out, and chances are it's what's causing the overheating problem.
