On the long drive home I was thinking about better gas mileage, less wear and tear on the engine from lower RPMS and the outright sweetness of a sixspeed.( i miss the STi) So i dug through my old favorites from my laptop and found this

http://www.albinsgear.com.au/mitsubishi.html

six speed dog box for the evo 1-3

any one know the ratios for our trans?

also found that thier distributor is right here in Aurora

http://www.powerhausii.net/

might have to talk with em. maybe drop off my spare trans and see if the stuff will fit in there. If it wont then maybe have to find an evo 3 trans and t-case

I doubt I would be able to do this for a months but this with the Seq shift and that would be a sweet driver.

cool idea of a 6spd to bad they used the gear ratios they did. With a 8k redline on stock size tires 6th would top out at 125mph and you'd be pulling 4500rpm in 6th at 70mphROFL
The ratio's in the our stock awd trannys would be really good if we had a 2.60 first gear

wouldn't the awd be a bit better (once it has more power, obviously) with a final drive gear in the 3.5-4 range?
the evo idea is intriguing. please let us know what you find out; i already have a 2-5 week trip to the denver area planned before september

Is this going to be your daily driver? While I think the 6 speed option is cool as hell it is a dog engagement. Most dog doxes tend to have straight cut gears and are meant to be slammed into gear EVERY time. So I would say drive in reverse at about 10 MPH and then get used to that sound as that is what your gear box will sound like. Also slowly shifting, like you would normaly drive, actually wears out dog boxes faster than baging gears. Now this may not be true of this box but for the Magnus and others I have seen it all holds ture. Just something to think about.

Yeah total suckage for most events, but in rally racing where speeds rarely hit more than 100mph that tranny would be absolutely pimp. Hell anyone road racing a non-turbo dsm could probably use that as well.

i've heard (from only one person, although a very respectable source) that the gvr4 first gear is not as strong as the regular dsm gear... but i have no first hand experience. i only say this because the guy i heard it from is quite experienced in racing dsms

That's what TRE told me. I wanted a taller first gear but they told me that the GVR4 1st gear set is weaker than the 1G so they stopped doing the mod to their trannies.

How much weaker? My goal is only 350hp/350tq to the wheels here in denver. i dont I would break it.

He didn't give me a range that the gear would give out at. He just said that he didn't believe that the GVR4 first gear would be strong enough for my set-up and you can see my set-up in my profile.

I think that it would be great if one of the companies that does the tranny rebuilds would design their own longer first gear for our cars. It would definately be an advantage and if one of them offered that instead of using the weaker Mitsubishi part then I would go for it for sure. Kind of like the "shep trans spec 2nd gear" that shep has on his website now. I don't even see the GVR4 gear on sheps website now. I guess he got away from it as well.
